  • This video goes out to warn fellow server owners and players about this silly exploit that has been out for quite some time but still hasn't been addressed. I hope this video brings some more light to the issue and will get it fixed. Please note there are more ways to achieve this bug so stay vigilant.

    I feel like a speed limit is required for such a big game, but 100m/s seems too small. Maybe patch of this as well as a increase to the speed limit.

      we've said this many times but the way the physics were designed basically anything over 250, using mods, breaks the game completely

      I think its about relative speed if you are in a small ship they should go fast if you are in a large ship make it go slow. A 200 mph fighter makes sense a massive 100mph battle cruiser doesn't. If you could extend this to custom turrests and missiles. It could make the game more fun as it rewards light craft design

      You could use fighters to disable parts of the ship and if exyended to sub grids make it so large heavy cannons can't snipe fast light ships you would have to design small turrets and light missile systems to counter other people's fighters. And torpidos ands cannons to counter large ships and bases

      @@benseaman3856 Actually it doesn't. Space Engineers aims for realistic-ish physics; the SIZE of the ship doesn't matter, the thrust-to-weight profile does. Generally speaking, a bigger ship will have MUCH bigger, more powerful engines and more fuel to burn them, meaning it can go faster than a smaller ship.

      I am 100% with you! Don't know what his problem is... He says "but what if you're in a fight and somebody comes flying at you with 1000ms? It is op"
      Well just also build this drivs???
      Every weapon and thruster in the game is theoretically op if the opponent has no weapon or thruster so I really don't get his point

      The thing is that it's not comparable to real life.
      In real life, you discover stuff because of the consistency of the rules of the universe. You bind to them.
      In games, you discover glitches because the limited human brains that created the world didn't program a result for every possible interaction with the game. The game binds to you.
      Using every function of the tools at your disposal to make the very best results possible IS engineering.
      Using non existing functions of the tools at your disposal to overcome a concrete rule ISN'T

      In science, what we believe to be the laws of nature, is bent and applied to most of what we know, not to mention experiments to further our advancement.

      your "real life" comparison is wrong, we have yet to create anything that crashes the universe, or slows it down from thinking too hard about how fast one miniscule part of it is travelling.

      Yes going past game set speed limit using an exploit. If i had a server rn any caught using would be told bye bye. And ships would be deleted

    I remember seeing a Dev post on the forums that once you go over 200 kph SE stops working properly in terms of physics. It wouldn't surprise me if you would have crashes and the like if you had multiple objects at that speed impacting each other.

    Fair enough this shouldn’t be on servers but abusing game mechanics is like a whole community so saying there is no engineering in it is a bit excessive.
    But by all means ban those who use it from the server.

    Personally, I think this is both hilarious and full of roleplay potential. Give this thing to the "thargoid" equivalent and you have a very scary and confusing alien threat to your survival. That being said, it should be a toggle, like with all the other buggy but interesting things you can turn back on in SE. You definitely don't want this in a general server.

    if this were a debate of some sort, i would belong in neither the "this is an engineering masterpiece" nor "this is a horrible exploit" party. i wouldnt be surprised if keen patched this, but space engineers is a game of engineering and creativity, and this is that. obviously, if servers like yours choose to not permit it, that's fine, it's a choice made for the server that if people dont like, they wont play on the server. but i think any new bug that summons lord clang to "enhance" the SE experience is neat and worth checking out. since, similarly to the one showcased today, all of these are attempts to tame clang, it will not be always cooperative, so similarly to the caveat shown here, will rise issues.

    In my opinion all the speed glitches are fine, as long as they're in moderation so as to not bug out a server, simply cos for me engineering is about using preexisting physics/forces and learning how to wield them to make something move faster/ be more deadly/ be more protective, whatever the objective of the creation to be just simply better. However I do understand from a server point of view that such things do cause a lot of lag/ or can potentially break a server. For me personally I would find a way to allow them to use a small number of vehicles like this. Or if server can't keep up then at that point day that they can't have it at all. But, I'm not a server owner and don't know the limitations of SE servers. Perhaps setting up a server to see how many a server can actually handle and then make the judgement from that. And while you're at it on that server is look at the effects of Klang drives in general on a server

    Honestly, if they patch this out Id hope they remove the speed limit for all grids that have no thrusters, gyros... I don't want to see all the piston guns in the workshop lose its magic.

    Suggestion: Get a group together, give em all the same ship with a merge block, and build these launchers at their base. Make sure the grids are a bit small, and Enjoy the chaos as they all try to kill each other. Or better still, put obstacles out.

    but I thought by definition the goal of engineering was come up with things that play by advanced rules to bore physics without working physics so if he's able to get the laws of physics of the game to do this therefore in a way he has done an engineering masterpiece but from a gaming and code standpoint he is broken the laws of physics so I applaud this but the other part of me is just going this is a very fascinating glitch.

    might worth experimenting with how quickly you can shoot past the planets.
    load the craft with explosives so you can obliterate it from the server as a fail safe?

    Are the small blocks coming from the rotor attached to the hinge?
    I'm shocked this is even a thing considering you normally have to mod the game for higher speed limits. Curious how/why this bypasses the games speed limitation. Is rather interesting.
    Think "cheating" is a bit much, definitely exploitatively unfair from a combat stand point.
    I'm certain that roll can be very easily countered, especially by someone who knows how to use the internal scripting system.
    Is there an upper limit to the speed this can achieve? or does this entirely unlock speed limit?

      I dont know what causes it, but I do know of another example. If you dive towards a planets surface and get to top speed, you can exceed 100m/s due to the gravity pull

      There is no speed cap, it'll keep accelerating till something stops it. Ive clocked 4500 m/s of one of these. Then I phased through a planet without so much as a hiccup.

    Personally I dont get why youre acting like its the worst thing in the world its a glitch and it wouldnt be the first time that SE has intentionally kept glitches around (there is an option in the server settings to allow some specific glitches) its not the end of the world that it exists does it belong on a server? no, most definitely not. would it be fun to mess with in a solo world? yes. that simple. Personally I find the speed limit to be stupid anyways hence why me and my buddies always have mods on our servers to remove it or raise it but this is definitely an interesting machine its pretty creative IMO.

    I think this is wicked cool and super ingenuitive *buuuuuuuut* if it's really messing up the server that bad I think it is for the best that it gets fixed. We all know the mighty Clang and in my opinion this is the work of some other unholy being.

    Personally I use a mod that well up the speed limit to a maximum of 1000 but I know Max it to 300 but one thing I think keen to do is Nathan make the speed limit for smaller grids higher like have large good at 100 and smaller grids at 200 Max speed sorry for the spelling I'm using autocorrect

    Is the use of clang always an exploit and a cheat? I never play on servers. But stuff like this is fun to experiment with. Like creating a small grid ship that can accelerate up to 1067 m/s while using large grid base power instead of small grid ship power.
    Is it a bad idea to just allow these kinds of things to play out on servers... new ideas force new tactics and strategies?

    Mechanics and Exploits like these definitely don't belong on a public PVP server.
    In single player or servers between friends it's different but in this case the device just doesn't belong

    I think it’s cool to explore but has no place in a general multiplayer environment. More something for a small group of friends to dick around with and not ruin the dim speed and the fun for others

      Agreed this is something you might mess around with, in SP or on a Private server. For fun and such but as soon as you start using these weird exploits against others it is just beeing a dick.

    Bugs are fine for singleplayer/private (where you might as well have a speed mod), but not for multiplayer, especially for this sort of wireless cross grid phantom force generator.

      @@LastStandGamers He's saying that by players who try to break the game existing, the game is in turn made more solid. You're contributing to this ironing process as well by casting these exploits into the light. To some it may seem harmful to spread knowledge of them and probably is in the short term but the ultimate result will be they're noticed and then patched out.

    The real question is: Is it actually breaking the speed limit or is it just breaking the shown speed. Because breaking the shown speed is rather easy.

      I had been playing Valheim, and I'm feeling that game has achieved what Medieval engineers aproached and more. Its a shame, I loved medieval engineers and their multiplayer mechanics proposal.

    This doesn’t look new that just clang happening some grids just do but it seems milder than what it normally is so the speed boost is just a new realisation.

    I think this is pretty cool, just as much of an exploit as a gravity drive. If this is cheating then I would call gravity engines and gravity rail guns cheating too.

    I can't judge, because I'm angry that they fixed the "stealth" bug. I don't think it is an "engineering masterpiece", but I can't blame someone for experimenting. Hell, If I could make stable flights past the speed limit in vanilla, I'd do it! This is worth screwing with.

    I discovered this myself a few weeks ago.
    I was trying to build a docking clamp on a large missile design.
    Did the same thing and noticed the problem.
    I'd say keen wil have it patched soon.
    Also as a side note, I need to get involved and play on the LSG server

    Finding exploits is natural infact I seen that vid I while back but it just seemed to troublesome because you know clang always wins in the end.
    On another note having a secondary high speed drive would be nice apart from jumping.

    It's breaking the speed limit not becoming invisible. I genuinely don't see why this is such a huge deal. Other than the lag it creates what is the big problem. There are no consequences minus lag. Arron had no problem when you could make ships "invisible" but God forbid you go too fast. Wtf this this so backwards

    I like many of the SE bugs that get turned into useful things like weapons and propulsion and resource gathering.
    Unly things which crash servers and lag them are bad.
    Some "exploits" should be just considered engineering. That is what *actual* engineering is about - it's literally "how can we game our laws of physics" ...

    ...okay, lets talk about each point...
    1: "It's not an engineering masterpiece! it's an exploit!" "I don't see it as engineering"
    an exploit? maybe. an "engineering masterpiece"? yes. good luck trying to find a better way to harness clang. not to mention the fact, which another commenter pointed out, that the whole point of engineering irl is to use physics to our advantage, which this device does. exploit or not, it's technically engineering, and a feat of space engineers engineering at that!
    2: "it's OP! keen fix this now!"
    You can clearly see issues with controlling the camel, and even that larger ship that you said "would be easier to control". odd rotation? good luck maneuvering that thing in fight! not to mention the extreme shaking that's definitely going to end in you crashing into the ground. and if you use it on larger ships, you're going to have to accelerate it to 1000m/s, and once you're there, your ship is so large it's still gonna be easy to shoot. and i'm pretty sure even large ships would have stability issues at some point, creating a soft cap on how fast you can make a ship go.

    Yeah, because one guy preforming a mild exploit that barely breaks any limits is SO MUCH WORSE then dozens apon dozens of various grids, with about 6 of them moving around at any given moment, not to mention that the server must update the locations of EVERY SINGLE PLAYER, and spawn in EVERY SINGLE BLOCK placed. and we saw in your own tests that there wasn't any lag at all, save for a little when a ship connects to the device.
    seriously. stop saying "physics calculations". There is barely anything new the game has to compute. I played enough KSP to know that kraken attacks barely, if at all, affect physics calculations more then crashing into a planet.

      I agree with your points *except* for the whole thing about lag, clang causes more lag on a server than just your average moving grid especially with this spooky quantum entanglement style stuff going on and said lag would definitely be less noticeable on a single player world so I don't quite understand why you brought that up. But yeah this machine is pretty frickin cool.

    This is duable with pistons too and you don't get that rotation effect, making it even worse for my taste

      Discovered this on accident when I shot a hydrogen ship off my station at 3000 plus m/s. My friend was on the ship like whaaaaaaaa

      It's poorly designed. Way too many tiny thrusters. It would be a very expensive PCU build. I would never build such a thing when PCU is limited.

    The thing is, It's easy to do something like this by mistake when you are given things like pistons rotors merge blocks, large and small grids, etc. Ever tried to anchor a small grid inside a large grid and accidentally make this happen? I know I have...

    Just my opinion, its completely fine to have a go with these things IN YOUR OWN WORLD. Experiment and build whatever whacky designs you want on there its your world.
    Its bad when it gets done as an advantage to other players on servers owned and paid for by other people. Nobody should have to deal with an unfair fight or sim speed drops because of this

    no but honestly, i despise the fact the Keen implemented a speed limit into the game as an excuse for the lack of precision in their physics engine. realisticaly you would not have one. i always play without a speed limit!

      The only limit should be based on the resistance of air against your creation so yes I agree

      without a speedlimit collision would be either really bad at high speeds (like clipping through stuff) or it would take a lot more ressources for every single fast grid.
      if you have 2 very fast grids you have to check a lot of points infront of the grid (the faster, the more points, the more precise, the more points) if there is/will be another grid in the next moment.
      so if 2 ships are moving really fast and should collide, (lets assume they are a single point/ a perfect sphere with limited size) you have to store all these points for EVERY grid that is moving. and then check if 2 points are the same/ if 2 spheres will touch each other.
      there has to be speedlimit (lets ignore the speedlimit of the engine)
      Keen just said lets do 100 m/s to limit the amount of cpu you need to play it.
      in singleplayer you could probably use a higher limit, but what if the singleplayer limit was 500, but servers would limit it to 100, because they cant afford better hardware? everyone would be even more pissed.

    This may explain all the recent heavy lag and server disconnect errors on all the Keen servers. Then again I see a lot of players build a ships and vehicles with lots of complex secondary and tertiary grids and that alone tends to increase the Klang the more numerous and complex such builds become.

      Well building with subgrids isn't a problem in itself. Really if i could create small grid missiles to complement my large grid torpedos without the need of subgirds i would do so, but right now that's just the only solution.

    This is bad because it's cheating but it would be good if keen could just increase the speed limit dogfighting is really boring if you can't fly at at least 200 m/s. This cheating is still wrong but it's just a thought
    Maybe people should keep larger grids with the speed limit as they feel clunky and more like a battle ship but Allow small craft to go up to 250 m/s it will also mean making custom turrets / missile systems rewardable as they could deal with fighter threats and make fighter design more meaningful.
    More weight per grid should = less speed
    Less weight per grid should = more speed.

    That's not an exploit... that's using standard and well known game mechanics to your advantage...
    That's like calling the piston engine on scrap mechanic an exploit because it doesnt need fuel when every other engine does... this person found a way to abuse clang... so what... not game breaking cause going that fast it's easy to destroy yourself you need so many thrusters to help stop its dumb cause at 1000 m/s you dont stop...

    reading some of these comments is making me think of doom and argent energy. clang is hell and SE is mars. harnessing the power of hell to have fun and infinite power.
    i personally find how the thing works is funny. and it would be cool just to dork around with on Creative but survival i think is just dumb in survival mode

    On a vanilla PvP server, it's an exploit. Fighters may have control issues. Missiles are less fussy, just need to hit the target. When you can zoom in before turrets can even begin to track, then it's not very sporting.
    If you want that speed, use a speed mod that is designed for it.

    If it was for a mass driver that is a use in which I’d say it would be acceptable but if it’s for anything other than that like for a fighter or god forbid a large grid battleship I would say that is inexcusable

    guess what happens when you give tools for player to be creative .. they exploit and that's entirely fine best suggestion I'd give is to make a whitelisted server and report the issue

    I've had my times playing with fun exploits however I would never dare to use them in a server for obvious reasons however I will note that there is in fact mods that let you go over the normal speed limit so this thing is kind of useless if you can use mods

    Awesome! Love exploits like this, maybe multiplayer PVP players don't, but fuck I love crazy shit like this. They should never fix it man, you build your channel on crazy contraptions and insane weaponry like this! I miss the old series with the good ol gang that would have some fun and just be really entertaining, overall I miss Sage and both your shenanigans.

    I'm of a mixed opinion, on a small server with friends something like this or the various clang drives I've created to exceed the speed limit are engineering and lots of fun, however on a public server that this sort of thing could potentially crash it does not belong. If you can put in the time and effort to actually design something that is stable and fly well it is engineering and imo things like this should be allowed and encouraged if it wasn't for the performance and glitchyness factors.

    I think any exploit in the game mechanics should be brought to the attention of the admin before use. Using these exploits on a PVP multiplayer server is wrong. It gives an unfair advantage to players, lags the server and overall makes playing on the server unenjoyable. People who work out these exploits are clever, but they should ask admin permission before using them, or only use them on a private servers.

    The 'dual path hinge joint' alone makes it an exploit for me. The physical components are not supposed to be able to be put together like that, which makes all the effects a bug.

    Try it with torpedoes. Have a saw/cutter thing on a remote controlled torpedo, cut the top part, and see how that messes with combat. See if it could be intercepted before your warhead detonates

    oh sorry Mr Xeon processor with your 60 thousand dollar server, its called Space Engineers BEING UNSTABLE AS CRAP! even my servers lag with Ryzen 9 or my intel 11th gen CPU, or my Threadripper. this game is unstable to high hell, always has been, and clang is pure proof of instability, once clang is truly gone, the game can be considered stable, but we all know keen cant make Clang disappear.

    This looks very similar to the double rotor part used in piston guns, just with hinges. I was experimenting with 400/500 m/s piston guns because 100 m/s is a garbage projectile velocity, If the grids get about 5km apart the phantom forces can get uncontrollably strong. I really kinda hope they never patch it but if they do, I would really like a method of making PWMs with a higher velocity than 100...
