I know things change. I know malls are dying. But I still miss the old Northgate... "old" being a relative term. That old Northgate sign used to light up... the star at the bottom would blink a couple of times, then it had bars that would light up sequentially util it got to the star at the top. THAT star would blink a couple of times, then the bars would go back down to the bottom, and the cycle would repeat. As a kid in the 70's, that was cool... and fun to watch from the old Oberweis across the street.
@@mallaholicretailadventures Can't blow this up quite big enough but as I remember it... Oberweis was just about across from Ace Hardware. Coming back towards where you were shooting this from where McDonald's was... there's whatever's left of an old gas station, then the old Oberweis building. Their website says they opened that location in 1951, but doesn't say when they shut it down. That whole section of Lake Street was already on a downward slide before I moved away in '93.
LOL On your other video, I talked about how you should get this sign... on your video. BAM - here it is. I'm laughing my a ** off. Keep up the great work. Like the house music intro too on your vids. =M=
Cool thrift store! With vintage styling being in, these over-the-top signs should make a comeback as well! Awesome to see it's still there even though it's not lit up! (Probably too much energy costs)
This particular strip mall brings back some memories, as well as, Lake St. in general. I recall Jewels here, Bergners, a Sears surplus store, drug store name Suns (?) and a cool electronic/music store - all stemming from the '80s. Lake Street had some good retail entities: Kmart further north, Gaylords later Venture, National Grocery which I believe became a Safari If anybody recall those grocery stores.??? There was a incredible pizza place on Indian Trail and Lake called Freebees - good stuff.
I remember going to that Jewel as a kid. Also went to the Bergner’s (later Carson’s) a lot. The was also a courtyard in back where Harners Restaurant was.

Yeah, if you catch a glimpse of the monument sign during my intro, you can see the type of businesses that are there now.

I like those kind of places. I really like that vintage Northgate sign. Looks very 60s.

How long has it been since Value City went bankrupt? Some real antiques there!
About 11 years since they went out of business. That price tag was a good find.
The planet fitness actually used to be a TJ Maxx

Did North Gate ever have a place called Bill's An Eating And Drinking Establishment?
I am actually not sure if they did or not
I sometimes go to the community thrift store on Indian trail
in the background patsy cline is playing
the planet fitness was also a TJ Maxx
You should go to cash America I love that place, it’s like a bit to the left
