Kaizo blocks are the most juvenile and classic troll contraption in Mario history, ever since the Lost Levels. But holy hell, the absolute horrendous potential for that simple technique to be absolutely life destroying is still here in full force. dying to that at the end of the red bullet jank was the most soul crushing thing I could imagine. How was a human able to devise something so evil lmao.
At least that was a better kaizo than search my entire huge level for a hidden key somewhere
This is one of the rare kaizo blocks that genuinely is trolling. It's not there for a random cheap kill. I'd argue it's not even there to be annoying or waste your time. It's there to be a memorable moment and it succeeds. The entire level is designed to make you think of it a certain way. To make you feel a specific mix of safe yet bored for 8 minutes. If you've played Mario Maker for a while you know exactly what you're dealing with. Then right at the finish line it pivots to reveal that the entire thing was actually a setup for a different type of level.
I don't know if that was intentional or not but they made art.

Wow. I don't usually react to videos but that final kaizo block got me to jump up. Once that red bullet is aligned the tension goes way down and it becomes another tedious but mostly free 20 second ride. By the time you reach the room with the flag you've shifted gears back into being bored with your guard down because the entire level has been cultivating that tone.
The creator knows you've got plenty of time remaining at that point to be cautious but internally you're going to feel like you've already won because you're past the final hurdle. They know you just want it to end. They've seeded a disorientated feeling by making the level upside down so even after half an hour you're not thinking 100% correctly. They've avoided these sort of gotcha moments in favour of the more puzzle-like tight performance meets precise sequencing trolling.
The only exception is right at the start before the checkpoint they show their hand with that fake coin trail. Right out the gate they told you to expect it. If after that you landed in the goal room instead of the checkpoint there's no way you wouldn't check for a kazio block before jumping. It would be so predictable. Yet 8 minutes later it comes out of nowhere and you've only got yourself to blame.
It opens and closes with the most basic trolls imaginable and it genuinely results in one of the best scripted trolls in Mario Maker.
