Nuova opportunità terapeutica per il tumore alla prostata: enzalutamide.

Il tumore alla prostata è la neoplasia più diffusa tra la popolazione maschile in Europa, con 35.000 nuovi casi in Italia ogni anno. Nonostante i progressi terapeutici, vi è ancora la necessità di una valutazione multi-specialistica di ogni caso da parte di un team composto da un urologo, un oncologo medico e un oncologo radioterapista per programmare il percorso terapeutico personalizzato per ogni paziente. Il tumore alla prostata ha diverse caratteristiche di aggressività e varia dai tumori poco aggressivi che possono essere solo sorvegliati ai tumori più aggressivi che richiedono trattamenti combinati. La scelta di trattamento dipende dal tipo di malattia e dal tipo di paziente. Le nuove frontiere della terapia includono la chirurgia robotica, la brachiterapia, la combinazione di chirurgia e radioterapia per tumori localmente grossi o avanzati e nuovi farmaci come la terapia ormonale, i farmaci chemioterapici, l'antiandrogeno in valuta mid e il radio 223. In addition to these treatments, there are also drugs for the treatment of prostate cancer, including hormonal therapy, chemotherapy drugs, radio 223, new hormonal drugs, such as enzalutamide, which has recently been registered for use before chemotherapy. This drug is an antiandrogen that blocks the pathway from the cell surface to the nucleus of the androgen receptors. Enzalutamide reduces the risk of clinical progression of the disease by 80% and the risk of death by 19%. The expected survival compared to what was available 12 years ago has quadrupled, and the preservation of quality of life is also very important as these drugs have been shown to not only prolong life, but also improve its quality.
