My college roommate and I stumbled across Magical Drop 2 on the NSO. After trying a lot of, uhh... poorly aged games, we were blown away with how quickly this became a favorite. MD6 coming out was a shock to us, because we really thought we might be the only two people in the world still playing it. Looks like the community is a bit bigger than we realized!
I LOVE MD3, but I had no idea there was such a huge community around it! I played on Fightcade back in the day, so now it's time to get back on and put in the work so I can compete in these weeklies.

I recently bought a Neo Geo Mvsx mostly for fighting games, and then did a mod to have all the neo geo games on it to play shoot em ups and beat em ups, but I came across a few puzzle games, and because me and my wife enjoy puyo puyo tetris 1 and 2, I tried out a few puzzle games, but specifically kept coming back to magical drop 3 and told my wife this game is special & beautiful, we do survival mode at least once a day now, and I've been playing alot lately, and I"m so glad to have came across this documentary, to see this community, you have a new subscriber in me, and I followed the linked channels as well, and plan to download fightcade and compete! excellent video!

this is a very high quality vid and it's super well put together holy shit I love magical drop and puzzle games with anime aesthetics in general (Money Puzzle Exchanger, Cleopatra's Fortune, Puzzledama, etc.) so seeing a vid like this about it and that there's thriving community is so cool! (also personally I sorta like MDF with the character specials, it's challenging nice variety in gameplay. Dunno if that's too much of a hot take lol)
I always enjoy seeing the community of lesser-known games highlighted. The competitive puzzle game I'm more familiar with is Twinkle Star Sprites because of its appearance at Climb Cancel and Combo Breaker 2019.
I got to know about Magical Drop because 2 is on the NSO subscription so I tried it to see what it was about and liked all of it, it's full of charm and the gameplay was really fun so I bought Arcade Archives MD3 and after a while tried playing on Fightcade against others and that was really fun too.
I love this game so much, as mentione din the video i used to play this game while we were bored of fighting games or while there was somebody on the machine we wanted to play, i kew a lot of great people playhing this game and curerntly one of my bestr friends that i knew online plays this too, hopefully i see you guys in a event since im from Mexico.
I would still recommend playing the Arcade version via Fightcade if you want the authentic experience. Otherwise the PSX version is likely second best.
My only gribe with MD6 is that story mode is brutal with the how quick the ai moves and if you lose to the ai your progress gete wiped which i do not enjoy.
This video got me to buy Magical Drop VI on switch ( That and it had a really good discount of 33% off if you bought another game from the developer). And I have to say it's not been great so far. I'm really enjoying the gameplay but everything feels so off. Why the hell is every character locked? Why is the balancing for the story mode so bad, even on easy. I'll admit it's made me a good player and now I'm able to breeze through the story. But that easy mode is not easy. Also, why does getting new characters only specifically unlock for random modes in the game? Shouldn't you just unlock the character for every mode? Most of the time, it's not even a mode you have access to yet. Anyway, rant over. I hope they patch up this game. 😂
The video you're commenting on makes a pretty empirical, demonstrative case that the game has, in fact, come back, between the release of a sequel, regular tournaments, and a presence at just about every major fighting game or smash tournament held yearly. Red Bull had a survival mode contest at Combo Breaker all weekend.

What's the definitive version of this game to play on PC? There's the Arcade, Saturn, PSX and Switch versions and all could be emulated.
I would still recommend playing the Arcade version via Fightcade if you want the authentic experience. Otherwise the PSX version is likely second best.
