My husband and I just bought a 2025 CX70 Turbo S Premium. We chose this over the 90 not because of the lack of the 3rd row but because there are minor styling differences that make it a little sportier. It has blackened out chrome vs the bright chrome on the 90. Also the front and rear bumper has styling differences that make it appear a little more sporty IMHO. Absolutely great vehicle and so fun to drive and the interior is so upscale.
I really appreciate this review. Very direct and concise, and I appreciate you describing how the car truly feels instead of yammering a bullet point list of specs. Well done!
Soul Red Crystal is fab! Wish they would do similarly stunning shades of green, blue, purple, etc - jewel tones would go a long way on their cars' styling!
Agreed on bringing CX-60 here, though they will have a hard time retiring CX-5 - it's got HUGE brand recognition and (at the time of the CX-50 launch) was about 50% of the brand's sales entirely. Tough to be like "oop yeah we'll just not sell that one" though I'd prefer to have the names all match.
Just ordered a CX-70 Turbo S Premium + in Melting Copper w/Tan Interior. Didn't need the 90's 3rd seat, and liked the extra storage space, black trim and 2nd row folding buttons.
Love the look, but I wish the CX-70 was an actually smaller and more sporty SUV. Like you said there is no reason to make a different model for what is just the 90 without the seats. I'd love to see something between the 90 and 50 with a great PHEV system that is geared towards a sporty driving experience.
Yeah being the same price it’s a no brainer to me to get a CX-90 even if I seldom used that row of seats. Only thing that could change that for me was if the 70 added some type of feature for the cargo area like making it a washable/drainable cooler type of arrangement or even putting a power inverter back inside there to make it more useful than just an empty void.
Storage > seats I’ve got more dogs than friends. If anyone visits, they can rent a car. I haven’t explored the cx90 yet, but I’ve yet to find a 3rd row that folds flat AND provides a completely solid, stable, level floor for the dogs.
I thought I had read somewhere that Mazda changed the steering and suspension tuning from 2024 to 2025 on the CX-90, but now I can't find the source. Maybe that is the difference in the suspension tuning? I know my mom's CX-90 has much too heavy steering at times on the freeway (which might be the safety systems intervening). Also could just be software updates, as the CX-90 has had MANY, MANY software updates for the many modules onboard. Seems like the 2025 may have ironed a lot out!
90-day old 25 CX70 PP PHEV.I haven't had any problems!Great review,i agree with you 98%.I use apple carplay w apple music exclusively.I like the rotary dial.it's very simple to operate!IIOnce you have it all set you hardly need to use the rotary dial personally dont like touching the screen.I have grease skin and i leave fingerprints all over the screen if i use them. The volume knob next to the rotary dial is placed great.I do mostly short local trips. The PHEV is great for that.1400 miles on less than 2 tanks of gas.Great car!!!
The third row seating in the 90 is nothing to write home about. Would never put adults back there except in real necessity. Buying a 90 for that purposes would make little sense. Now if you have regular passengers of the smaller, kiddie variety, that's another story. We once did, but they are out of the house, so it's the 70. Especially at the higher trims, a sneaky bargain.
Doesn't VW do the same thing with the Atlas? Seems like people forget that when they criticize Mazda for selling the same vehicle with either two rows or three.
@ you keep yapping the cx70 is just pointless bla3 yet mazda manage to sell many of cx70. Mazda knows better than you do. Attention-seeking journalist i smell

my premium sport CX-90 has the blackened chrome you are talking about.
I agree, I just got my CX 70 This past Monday. Great so far..Its a large vehicle, so it will take some getting use to.
I agree. The premium has 21 inch wheels.

That red that Mazda do is stunning. Looks awesome on this vehicle.

Love the look. I WISH mazda would sell the CX-60 in America - could replace the CX-5, and finally get their product names to fall in line.

Thanks for the review. Would you ever do an interior tour as well instead of summarizing while driving?
I love what modern Mazda is about! This is a nice car.

I believe the CX-70 allows for a temporary spare and unsure about the CX-90. A critical feature for road trips.
I believe CX-90 also gets a temporary donut spare under the rear cargo area.

There's already been a couple dozen of these reviews with the cx-90 and almost as many with the 70.
CX 90 sport is what they should have called it. Either way great car! And I hate chrome, so this is the one to get.
That storage space is minimal. I dont need a 3rd row..i like and perfer the CX 70 over the CX 90..and im enjoying it so far.

They do, but the 2-row Atlas is the "Cross Sport" and at least has different body work at the rear (chopped roof to be a "SUV coupe" which... ugh).
So you got this car from Mazda just to be hating and throwing jabs on it? What an idiot. But not suprised at all
That's the point of a review, not everything will be positive. If it were, that's called marketing.
I like the CX-90. I think the CX-70 is silly.
