  • Let's explore some more maps of Austria-Hungary, its centres and periphery and of course railway connections!
    This video is educational ASMR intended for sleep and relaxation and features a soft spoken voice, plus pointing and tracing as visual component.
    The maps are from the Hölzel Universalatlas.

      Ahaha it might seem like that because you can't see me as I frantically scroll through Wikipedia articles half an hour before we start filming 🤭 No but thank you, I'm very happy that I get to share these little explorations with such a lovely and interested audience! You're very kind :)

    I do a lot of genealogy in my free time, so i look at a lot of censuses (from the US), and it's really interesting to see how ppl from Eastern Europe defined where they were from over the years. The different ways ppl had to describe being from Poland is especially interesting to me, bc of course Poland didn't exist for many years, so ppl would say "Polish Austrian" "Polish German" "Polish Russian", and I think I've seen "Polish Bohemian" and "Polish Galician". Just thought you might find that interesting!

      Oooh, I do find that interesting. How cool that you have access to that data! What time frames do you usually look at?

    Another interesting and enjoyable journey - Thanks. The Austro-Hungarian influence shaped central Europe for a long time and experienced big, radical changes throughout its history. Seems to me a lot of areas previously attached to it still have those cultural influences that will play out as this region evolves over time. Look forward to your next installment on its southern most regions.

      Hey you :) That's so true - though sadly a lot of the connections got severed and many of these places felt very distant when I was growing up. So I'm learning a lot of new things with these videos as well 😊 Hope you're well!

    I love that just speak softly without the long drawn out whispers. It's much more natural. Many artists lose that. Thank you. And your nails always look great.

    It's shown as Pozsony on this map, which is the hungarian name for bratislava
    It makes sense, since slovakia was part of transleithanien but i still am curious why it is not highlighted as a more important city

    I find these histories fascinating as we don't get taught anything about Austria-Hungary in school here (UK). In terms of Europe, we get the World Wars (where the focus is on the UK's relationship with Germany) and the French with the Napoleonic Wars, French Revolution and Hundred Years War. Even Spain gets a look in with the Spanish Armada but basically nothing on the Habsburgs despite how influential they are in the early modern period...

    • @MelangeASMR
      @MelangeASMR  2 роки тому +1

      Thank you, Mike! It's pretty much the same here, though with the bizarre bonus that Eastern Europe played a very minor role in our education, despite the Habsburg history. We went through the Frankish middle ages about 3 times though 😅

    Bratislava is right next to Vienna, its called ''Pozsony'' on the map. The name Bratislava was made up in the 1900s when it later became part of Czehoslovakia. For Germans/Austrians it was called ''Pressburg''.

    Excellent ASMR video on the old Habsburg Dual Monarchy! The town of Budweis in Bohemia inspired Adolphus Busch and Carl Conrad in 1876 to make a Bohemian-style lager here in the U.S., known today as Budweiser!

    • @MelangeASMR
      @MelangeASMR  2 роки тому +1

      Ah I was wondering why there's an American Budweiser! We get a Czech beer that had to change its name to Budvar a couple years ago. It's really good, though! I'd be curious to compare the two haha.
