The people down by the stage were members of the NPG Music club, his fan club.the two women are The Twins (twin sisters) who were his dancers. Prince changed up the Best of You Foo Fighter’s cover and mashed it up and put his spin on it. The guitar is his symbol. He was a monster! Miss his presence on earth 💜 O+>
Most performers are required to have a backing track, he wasn't having it. The promoters were worried about him playing live with it raining the way it was. When told it was raining, Prince famously asked if they could make it rain harder. True GOAT right there. I liked Prince a little bit when he was still alive, but sadly it wasn't until after his death that I found out how much of a musicsl genius that he truly is/was. Literally one of the best guitarists ever. Maybe not as innovative as others, but definitely better than a lot of the guitarists on the "GOAT" guitarists list.
Yes. Yes. And absolutely. I too found out about the mastery of Prince late in his life... and you're right..maybe not as innovative. But good lord he could play circles around 99.9 percent of everyone.

Greatest performer ever! There are so many great live performances for you to check out. Anything from the 2009 Montreux Jazz Fest (my favorites are Little Red Corvette, Empty Room/Elixir, All the Critics Love You), Motherless Child, Play That Funky Music/Hollywood Swinging/Fantastic Voyage, America, The Question of U, Shh, and, of course, Purple Rain. There are so many great versions of Purple Rain and they are all different, but I love the performance he did at the 1985 American Music Awards.

The girl singing next to him on stage is Shelby Johnson aka Shelby J. She's not my favorite Prince background singer but she was with him since 2006, so she was with him the longest aside from Morris Hayes, who went from keyboards to drums to behind-the-scenes stuff. Prince is my favorite artist - but it's hard to get into him as a child because he doesn't dumb things down too much - he makes music for himself - and a lot of that means for grown folk.
The story I heard was that the morning of the Super Bowl, Prince's agent called and warned him that there was rain in the forecast and he might need to be prepared for that possibility in the halftime show. Allegedly, Prince asked, "Can you make it rain harder?"
He actually asked if they could make it rain harder.

The first great half time show was done by Michael Jackson. The superbowl realized the year before nobody watched their show. Foxes show by in living color had millions of viewers. Everyone tuned to Fox and th Wayans. So the next year they got Michael Jackson to do the first big half time show because they didn't want people leaving their broadcast. That's why we have the big half time shows. Prince's show is the greatest ever. Whe they told him it was going to rain during the show. Prince said I hope it rains harder. Then he proceeded to destroy the show with the Fam U marching band backing him up with the NPG. He mixed in some Tina Turner,Jimmy Hendrix and Foo Foghters.Finishing with Purple Rain in the pouring rain.💜

No one plays the Superbowl live anymore and there was absolutely no way Prince was gonna play with pre recorded tracks. He would always say during his live performances "This is real music played by real musicians". He was uncompromising about the integrity and craft of making music. There have been some great talents that have come through but that dude was different

The only time it has rained at the Superbowl and it was pouring. To hear more about Prince I suggest listening to interviews with his long time music director/keyboard player Morris Hayes. There's a really good 4 part one with Fil on the Wings of Pegasus channel. Morris Hayes is fun to listen to.

I really don't care how you felt about it. The man, the legend paid tributes to the Miami dolphins color of his wardrobe. Then his tributes to legends past and present songs of Bob Dylan, Tina Turner and Foo Fighters... that's why he's the greatest.

NFL started using mainstream music performers in 1991 with NKOTB being the first. Before that it was mostly marching bands. Prince performance though is notably the best halftime show EVER. Don't take my word for it, feel free to fact check 😁. It's all matter of opinion but it is what it is.

I am a huge MJ fan as well! As a white kid who grew up in the middle of nowhere, I surprisingly LOVE 80s Motown and other R&B from the 80s. It's truly incredible stuff.
