If the fuel pressure is only slightly low sometimes it will idle good but bad at higher RPM.
Low fuel pressure is often described as the vehicle running out of gas.
The engine light or a warning message will likely come on and multiple codes given.
Symptoms of Low Fuel Pressure
Long Start Times or No Start
Rough Idle
Misfire (P0300-P0308) Codes
Engine Running Lean (P0171 Code)
Reduced engine power
Check engine light.
Possible Causes of Low Fuel Pressure
Faulty Fuel Pump
Clogged Fuel Filter
Bad Fuel Pressure Regulator
Bad Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor
Wiring
Fuel Tank Contaminated
Fuel Line leak or clogged.

What about a vacuum leak? I was getting the lean code and my vacuum lines were collapsed also brake booster was leaking so vacuum leak from there as well
I have a 2011 Avalanche LS 5.3, my fuel pressure gauge starts at 53psi the drops to 42 psi, I have replaced fuel pump, both knock sensors, map sensor, maf sensor, spark plugs, Catalytic converter is good, the strange thing is I do not get any codes. Idle air control valve. Pretty easy to install and/or clean. I’d advise you look at your idle control valve
But how to diag which is the cause. I replaced a fuel pump that went bad. For now its cheapest for me to check on the rail sensor on the rail
Ive searched up so many videos with low fuel pressure and my plan would be to start looking at fuel injectors and slowly make your way to the fuel pump as the last part that can cause low fuel pressure im dealing with finding out what it is atm as well and im looking up videos that help me confirm which is the faulty part..I hope this gave you somewhat of a plan if you didnt have one. what about codes p2098 and p2096 , can that be the fuel pump?
P2098 stands for “Post Catalyst Fuel Trim System Too Lean (Bank 2) - P2096 stands for “Post Catalyst Fuel Trim System Too Lean (Bank 1) There can be several causes of lean codes, but the fuel pump is likely. I would do a fuel pressure test to see if it has gone bad.

I have a 03 5.3 with rough idle,black sut coming out exhaust pipe flashing check engine light lacking power. I've changed oil, filter,plugs,wires, coils,fuel pressure regulator.any clue what I should try?
Black smoke usually means it is running rich, but there should be a code that points to the issue.
