I really appreciate that! Definitely still have a lot of practice and things to work on but I enjoy it! I figured since I have a hard top might as well make it so it works hahah, can’t wait to test out the cage one day 😂
Watching your videos make me want to do so much to my yj but I don't have a garage and all the tools yet. For right now I'm just putting a lift kit and tires and bolt on stuff on mine. Awesome videos man keep it up!!
It all takes time but having a goal is all you need and you just gotta keep working towards it. 👍🏼 good luck with your YJ and I’m glad my videos motivate you. Thank you for watching!!
Glad to see ya working on the YJ again. Looking forward to seeing that thing on some future trail videos. Merry Christmas brother and hope your wife's business is doing well.
Thank you! It feels good to work on it again hahah. Once it’s running you’ll for sure see some trail videos haha. The wife’s shop is doing great!! She had an amazing past few months and she’s working her butt off, thank you for asking!! Merry Christmas to you and your family as well!
Thank you, I still have a lot I need to improve on and learn but I’m slowly getting more confident in my abilities and what I’m not the grinder fixes lol. I like the clean look of the ground down areas also haha. Thank you for watching!
I’m loving the look also and hopefully it will be super functional in multiple ways. Thank you for constantly supporting the channel and watching the videos! 🍻🤘🏼
That looks great! You have me wishing I could ditch my steering box now haha The level of detail you take is really going to set the Jeep apart from other builds once it's done!
Appreciate that brother! There’s definitely ways to make it work with the steering box but it’s just harder lol. I can’t wait to see the build complete but I’m also really enjoying the process hahah
Pro tip. You can use a hole saw to cut the radius then connect with a 4.5" cut off wheel. You may want to retube the passenger side of the front axle. The CAD breaking in half is super common. 40" is a huge tire for these.
The hole saw ideas is great, I’m not very smart and never think of ideas like that when I’m in the moment. As for the retube idea, I’ve actually considered it but between the top truss, the front full hydro mount, the one piece RCV CAD delete, and welding the cast to the tube I’m hoping it will be strong enough where I don’t have to go through the retube process. But we’ll see and I might find out the hard way lol. I appreciate all the tips and advice, also thank you for watching!!
Outstanding. I was thinking about doing the same recessed winch mount on my TJ. It's nice to see the steps. What front bumper is that ? I sure like how clean that is.
Thank you! I love how it looks! That bumper is the Motobilt YJ full width conversion bumper. That have a bolt on bumper that looks similar that could be modified and welded on. Thanks for watching! Good luck with the TJ 👍🏼
They were some pod lights I found on Amazon a few years back. I just measured the opening and found a light that fit. I just had to drill a couple extra holes to mount them. I can’t find the exact ones on Amazon at this moment unfortunately
Be sure that the slot you put for the fair lead is wide enough (up/down) as the angle of the bumper may make your winch line get closer. Would suck to run that line on that steel.
Yes exactly, good call. I did end up beveling those edges as well as ensuring that the line should only contact the fairlead but I will definitely double check that when I hook the winch up for good. Thanks for the tip and checking out the video 👍🏼
Yep the steering box is definitely a little tricky to contend with. I am going full hydro so I luckily didn’t have to worry about it. Check out recoil_tj on instagram and my walk around video of his build and look at his set up for his recessed winch. He was able to keep the steering box and make it all work. Thank you for watching!
Great job as usual. Hey iv got a question. I was thinking about doing a rear stretch on mine. Did you use YJ springs or Cherokee springs? I heard the Cherokee springs is a little longer.
Thank you Jeremy, for the rear of mine I used YJ length springs but that required me to cut off and relocate the frame side spring hangers. Cherokee springs are longer and would bolt up after you install the stretch. One thing to think about is with the longer spring, you run into a chance of more spring wrap especially if you do spring over. A anti wrap bar is super necessary. I plan on doing a anti wrap bar with my set up for the extra insurance also. Good luck with your project and if you have any other questions just let me know, thank you for watching and have a Merry Christmas!
I actually didn’t have to cut any of the Motobilt bumper fortunately, the winch plate just needed trimmed to fit down between the frame and that’s all I had to do really
Looking good. It looks like you are running 37"s? What axles do you have under there? It is hard to tell but that front almost looks like the factory D30. I ask because I am debating on my own YJ build about moving to heavier axles eventually.
Appreciate it!! Those are actually 40” black labels. The axles are out of a 2018 JL rubicon so “beefed up 44’s”. I have a lot planned to make those axles even stronger to handle the 40’s. I did a walk around video of the YJ last year talking about all the parts and plans for it but now you have me thinking about doing a update walk around on it since a lot has changed and there’s a lot more people that joined the channel. I say go for a YJ build!!! Haha appreciate you watching
I’ll move the walk around into a “walk around” playlist on my channel so it’s easier to find. As for the axles my best friend swapped one tons under his rubicon so I bought them off him. They only had about 4K miles on them, so they’re practically brand new haha. His build will be on the channel very soon!
Welcome to the channel Gary!! Glad to have you here 👍🏼 I’m obviously a huge fan of YJs lol but I will be painting the frame and bumpers all with Steel-It coating to protect it as well as make it easier for future modifications.
I’m glad you enjoy the videos and hopefully they give you some ideas for when you want to take your YJ even further hahah, thank you for watching and Merry Christmas!
I just found your channel. And I must say. Your doing a wonderful job. But my question is. Your doing all this work. And your going to try to run 44s. Why are you not running one tons. I don’t see you doing much hard core wheeling. Without breaking.
Thank you!! And welcome, lately content has been slow because of some big changes in life but I’m hoping to get back at it real soon. The 44’s were purchased before realizing how the project would snowball lol so since I have already invested the money in leaf spring components and the axles I figured I’d give them a run and see if I can prove the stereotype wrong if done correctly. But who knows I could break them and have to upgrade sooner than planned but I’ll see how it goes hahaha. I have future plans for these axles under another project but until then we’ll see what abuse they can take while I save up for the one tons. Appreciate you being here and supporting the channel 👍🏼🍻
The corners of the pan are open to drain water but you’re correct, I should drill an additional hole somewhere centered to assist with draining under the winch

Looking rad!! Very cool to see you working on the YJ again. Love all the custom work on your rig. Merry Christmas 🎄!
🔥🇺🇸
I’m pretty stoked on how it turned out, hopefully more YJ work will be coming soon! Thank you for watching and Merry Christmas to you too 🍻🤙🏼
I love your pup! Of course the jeep too but I love when people have their pups around while doing stuff!
Love that you kept the hard top as an option. The cage looks rad. Your metal work is getting very good
I really appreciate that! Definitely still have a lot of practice and things to work on but I enjoy it! I figured since I have a hard top might as well make it so it works hahah, can’t wait to test out the cage one day 😂
Looking REALLY good, totally glad to see you jamming out on the YJ again 🤘😁
Me too haha it felt good to get some progress done, especially something I’ve been thinking about for a while. Thank you for the kind words 👍🏼

looks great. Got mad welding skills. Very clean looking grounded down. Keep up the great work.

Killer job! I’m wanting to do this to my TJ when I go full hydro. Great video!
Definitely makes it a lot easier to do with full hydro, thank you for watching 🤘🏼
I love that!! I had been planning on doing that recessed winch mount on Gizmo… seeing it done just solidifies my thoughts!!!
Gizmo is turning out awesome, I’m enjoying following your project on instagram. I say definitely go for it!! It was a fun project to tackle
This build is so rad
I appreciate that, can’t wait to make it even more rad lol
That looks awesome…..loved the recessed look👍🏻. Great video as always 🤙🏻
I’m loving the look also and hopefully it will be super functional in multiple ways. Thank you for constantly supporting the channel and watching the videos! 🍻🤘🏼
I do believe were on the same pace with our builds its wierd i have been thinking about this a few days ago haha . Nice work and thanks for the idea
Hahah that’s awesome! Good luck with your build, thank you for watching. I’m glad I was able to help with some ideas 👍🏼🍻
I'm really digging how your build is turning out. I'd love to build a YJ.
The YJ’s are the bastard children that everyone secretly loves hahah. I appreciate it 🤘🏼🍻 Merry Christmas
@@altered_life Merry Christmas!

I was just thinking about this today and bam!!!! I find this video
Hahah awesome we’ll I’m glad I could be some help and give you some more ideas on how to go about it 👍🏼
Really nice job! Congrats.
Thank you Jake!
Stoked on your video man, I'm in the process of doing the same with my yj, but with an 8274, so a little different
Thank you!! Good luck with your build, that’s going to be badass with that sitting in there 🤘🏼
@@altered_life thanks bud, it's coming along!

@@altered_life Hey man! Give your self credit! Damn, this is awesome build, and you are rocking it!
Hahaha i appreciate it!! I’m definitely learning as I go and can’t wait to see this build done and beat on it!

What kind of small lights are those in place of the blinkers? I dig it

Nice freakin work! Its crazy how far back that ls looks in there haha, guess im used to my long ass 4.0.
🤘🏼 thank you!! I know right hahah, when I first put the motor in without the body I thought I messed but because of how far it seemed lol.

Long time to see working on your yj ….👍👍
I know lol feels good to be back on it, hopefully more to come very soon 🤘🏼
Super interesting, I'm wanting to do the same thing to mine but ran into trouble working around the steering box, are you going full Hydro?
Yep the steering box is definitely a little tricky to contend with. I am going full hydro so I luckily didn’t have to worry about it. @@altered_life thanks for the insight. That is something I didn't think about. You guys have a Merry Christmas as well
If you don’t mind me asking did you cut the top part of the bumper off?
I actually didn’t have to cut any of the Motobilt bumper fortunately, the winch plate just needed trimmed to fit down between the frame and that’s all I had to do really

I’ll move the walk around into a “walk around” playlist on my channel so it’s easier to find. As for the axles my best friend swapped one tons under his rubicon so I bought them off him. 👍🏼 thank you!
I'm planning on using the ford external mount steering box. This is a very clean mod. Great job.
New here. I like what you’re doing. YJ’s are cool done up. Are you painting the bumper and frame or por 15 or something?
Welcome to the channel Gary!! Glad to have you here 👍🏼 I’m obviously a huge fan of YJs lol but I will be painting the frame and bumpers all with Steel-It coating to protect it as well as make it easier for future modifications.
My YJ is not that far from stock other than the donated Cherokee drivetrain, with guessing 97 OBDII ecu/engine harness but I enjoy your videos.
I’m glad you enjoy the videos and hopefully they give you some ideas for when you want to take your YJ even further hahah, thank you for watching and Merry Christmas!
No shortage of welds there! That ain't going nowhere!
