do you bake the acrylic paint at all to set it or do you varnish to protect it when it gets handled and washed?

I don't bake acrylic paint. It is set when it dries. It's up to you if you wish to seal it with an acrylic clear coat. Acrylic paint is liquid plastic and doesn't require a clear coat.

I wouldn't use these every day. Hand wash with gentle soap.
