I was just thinking that. I wish they'd made an actual anime out of the whole game. That would've been awesome. Plus it would've been more merchandise, which may have encouraged Square to continue the series rather than stop at Chrono Cross.
raspberry muffin Yeah, I think they could have done so much more with the chrono trigger setup than just trigger and series. I mean, it's a game about time travel and multiple dimensions. There's so much intricate stuff you could have done. They didn't even touch quantum mechanics - I mean, particle wave duality mixed with multi-dimensional time travel in a fantasy world, I can barely wrap my head around the concept.
Why is everyone complaining? I think this is kinda cute and funny. It's great seeing Chrono Trigger animated in the slightest. It was too expensive at the time to make a TV show for a game, only things like Mario and Sonic made enough to get some, sadly Chrono Trigger wasn't popular enough to have an anime.
but... but... maybe back then it was too expensive right? how bout now? people talk about the idea but why couldn't someone make it today? 7 billion people in the world today and not a single person could pull it off?
Both mario and SONIC anime was a failure.. if you dont see that you would understand this. Even the mario movie was a failure it took 20years to finally get a good video game Movie going.. and this is facts.
I saw this some years ago, and enjoyed it well enough. I really like it. Yeah, it doesn't have the main characters, but it's cool seeing pretty near every monster in the game represented, and hearing some of the classic music. Just enjoy it for what it is.
How for the love of God have I never heard of this before? Chrono Trigger is one of my all-time favorite games since I first played it 20+ years ago, holy Lavos Batman!
People who say this game was a critically acclaimed hit and commercial success when it was released in 1995 obviously were not around then. The game was a dud and a flop sales wise from the day it was released and I know because I was around then and played video games and bought my SNES the day it was released in the U.S. There was a magazine back then put out by Nintendo called Nintendo Power. This magazine reviewed all the new games. Chrono Trigger was a Super Nintendo game and when it came out it wasn't even featured on the cover of Nintendo Power magazine. A game called Donkey Kong Country was on the cover. I bought Chrono Trigger the first day it was released at a Toys R Us store. There were only 3 people there before the store opened waiting to buy the game and I was one of them. For comparison when Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles for the Super Nintendo came out there was a line 2 blocks long outside that same Toys R Us to buy that game. Almost nobody played RPG's in the early to mid 90's when those games came out for the Super Nintendo. I remember a guy who worked in the video game dept. of a Toys R Us telling me the games which sold the least were Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy 3 and Secret of Mana. I remember large stacks of those games in the original boxes behind the counter in the display case unsold. And no difference at the Captron World of Nintendo stores which were in malls and sold SNES games. The manager of the local Captron store told me that Chrono Trigger was the poorest selling Super Nintendo game ever. He said he hated when Nintendo released another RPG because he said almost no one bought games like Final Fantasy 3, Chrono Trigger, Secret of Mana and Breath of Fire. He said the only game in that genre that ever sold any was Legend of Zelda Link To The Past and it was just an average seller and no big deal. I understand Chrono Trigger was a big hit in Japan for the Super Famicom but here the game was a dud and a flop and sold next to nothing. I know the game sold poorly because a few years later game stores had used SNES games for sale cheap and the used games were for sale as carts but Chrono Trigger was for sale sealed in original box which means there were a lot of unsold new sealed copies of that game out there. In 1996 after the SNES went out there were tons of sealed box Chrono Triggers for sale at used game stores for $5 or less and no one bought them. Also there was no merchandise for the game released in the U.S. when the game came out in 1995 . Which shows Nintendo did not care to promote the game here. No trading cards, shirts, posters, figures, nothing. The popular SNES games had various merchandise released along with the games. Chrono Trigger had nothing. So when these reviewers rave about this game and say it was a big deal and critically acclaimed hit when it came out they were not around in 1995 when the game came out . I was and the game was a very poor seller and was not the big deal these people say it was. Further evidence that Chrono Trigger sold very poorly when it was released in1995 is that the Nintendo Players Guide for the game is almost impossible to find now. There were none for sale on eBay right now. If this game was such a big hit back then then there should be a lot of used Nintendo Players Guides out there now but there aren't I remember those Chrono Trigger Nintendo Players Guides stacked up in video game stores like Captron and nobody bought them.
True but It all depended on the region you lived in, the game could be on sale booming in California but not be available in Florida for weeks or months , the neighborhood i lived in damn near everybody had a copy,i can still remember the deep quiet in the neighborhood from no kids playing outside because of this game it started out as a snowball but ended in an avalanche,we didn’t have the internet in those days but chrono trigger had a commercial of its own, reaching over 2 million copies sold in the US alone, follow the paper trail not for availability on a store shelf or a upset store clerk wherever you were at the time ,do you know that still to this day the creators and toriyama (the person who created dragonball z and did the art in CT) get hate mail for not making a sequel to this game? Where in the world did you live bro?matter of fact I just got done beating the game not too long ago,my memories are full of this game and for friends and family and next generation to come, you caught the bad end of the CT relationship and I’m sorry about that.....BTW this anime is a piece of S&$t
Anyone who says this has nothing to do with Chrono Trigger or is bad obviously doesn't understand it was not a series, simply an OVA. Thus character development and such couldn't be obtained so they took a few famous CT monsters and used them in a comedic fashion (as a lot of older anime is). It was the style of the time. It was/is fun if you're a real fan and understand the subtle meanings.
It has Jonny, Gonzalez (cat robot), the enemies from the other side of 1000ad, and not to mention it does have Chrono and Lucca in the background. The whole game usually mentioned the main heros and maybe they wanted to show the background of Chrono Trigger with a little bit of humor.
I know, but people wanted to see Crono's adventure with his friends rather than this. Maybe they did want to show the background of the story, but that still doesn't change the fact that we were disappointed.
I used to be obsessed with this anime as a Kid in the late 90s. Being a huge fan of Chrono Trigger, I was disappointed it was a goofy spinoff rather being a real adaptation... Sad times.
@Mysticsloth even if it was Toriyama that created how the characters were supposed to look like that doesn't mean that he made this anime, I mean he didn't create Dragonball GT. He were a freelancer after all
I honestly don't see why Crono Trigger was not a bigger success I blame marketing cause it was an astounding adventure and world I love the characters and story progression the different areas and time periods the visuals and animations but the "casuals" don't like this stuff they want to button mash and drool mindlessly.
I remember when I first watched this being super disappointed. I guess I still am disappointed... even though this is kind of funny & charming as a side-story. Still, god damn, when I look at all of the beautiful Chrono Trigger concept art out there... I can't help but wonder what it'd be like if there was an actual epic, adventure anime made that followed the main characters and had Toriyama on the dev team... I feel like it's a bit too late now, though. Even if it was made today, the animation wouldn't be up to snuff, I'm sure of it. Everything is digital nowadays. :(
@ShamanKingkid101 Because it is a parody of it using the monsters from the game I guess, rather than the main characters. Just a fun little spoof thing from the Chrono Trigger world.
I felt like it was a DVD/VHDS special feature for a series/movie (Probably for a Saga collection for Dragon Ball Z) or was probably once out in stores back in 2003 but was discontinued later on.
isso explica pq o Crono é igual ao Goku, a Marle igual a Videl, a Lucca igual a Bulma, o Glenn humano igual ao Vegeta, e o Magus igual ao Cell, e o Janus (Magus criança) é igual ao Broly
Dude WTF were has this been I'm glad it exists but I wish it would have been finished. Come on Toriyama don't pull the trigger on Chrono his universe deserves better.
Yeah, but it's not what people wanted. As far as I know, none of the main characters are even mentioned in the series. Personally I don't even think it deserves to be associated to Chrono Trigger.
Why Square?! Why Toriyama?! Why didn't they make this a full blown anime?!
Copyright issues.
My thoughts exaclty
raspberry muffin i couldnt agree more lol i mean chrono cross was great and all but i gave up at the wind dragon oh and also cuz it got robbed.

I keep on listening to the Gato song. I'm glad this exists.

+Savage Rex yep
His name is Crono not chrono
@@IloveJC IT'S THE SAME THINNNGGGG🤣🤣🤣🤣

it was epic when he pulled out the snes controller
5:45 I laughed so hard when he plugged in the SNES controller and started mashing the A button! XD
How for the love of God have I never heard of this before? Chrono Trigger is one of my all-time favorite games since I first played it 20+ years ago, holy Lavos Batman!
7:17 Best part right here
Sorta reminds me of Enka music, kinda cool!

I never knew this existed and I feel like I just discovered lost footage.
id be nice if these were kept in as a completion bonus or something.
Heme aquí en pleno 2025 amando cada segundo de este video
My God, Johnny looks like a Michael Jackson mixed with Elvis. If I didn't love Chrono Trigger so much I wouldn't have watched this.
Gato is actually "Gonzales" in Japanese? Lol

WHAT HOW WHEN WAS THIS MADE WHY DID NOBODY TELL ME ABOUT THIS
When JRPG does not mean "RPG" or "best RPG ever made".
Ah the Chrono Trigger anime. What a Tease
Ow ye its true !!
GONZALEZ!!! JAJAJAJA NO MAMES!!!
I found those spinning white things to look pretty creepy. Same with the rats from the future era but they look so cute here.
Chrono Trigger is such a perfect blend of fantasy and science fiction, Square Enix should remake Chrono Trigger.

@ShamanKingkid101 Have you played Chrono Trigger before? If so, then you should recognise a lot of the characters.
where in HD??

Hey at least there making a remake of it
It's not that terrible to me. It was funny and silly and I would have liked it to be about the main characters in the game, but I enjoyed it.
2019 COMMENT WHY HAS THERE NOT BEEN A FULL FUCKEN FLEDGE ANIME DEDICATED TO ONE OF THE BEST SUPER NINTENDO LEGENDS OUT THERE??!?!?!?!?
didn't know they have made an anim based on this precious game.
I didn't know there was a chrono trigger anime.
@ShamanKingkid101 Because it is a parody of it using the monsters from the game I guess, rather than the main characters. Just a fun little spoof thing from the Chrono Trigger world.
We want 100+ episodes! NOW!
this is so awsome please continue
I came from Emile.
I believe it was made in 1996.
Also, fun fact: Akira Toriyama, the creator of the Dragonball series, did the art work for Chrono Trigger
That robot would own x factor
i know right why not an anime of this game it would have rocked
it was never released in america?
XD Now THAT's a Chrono Trigger parody XD
where tf this been at?
I had no idea there was an anime of Chrono Trigger...*FAINTS *____*
Halfway through and it has no resemblance to Chrono Trigger minus the A-Button Trick and Gato
with exactly the same sounds as in the game.
oh so that's where the word "Nuu~" came from
My face went lol at 5:48.
Now THAT what i call button smashing.
I guess they HAVE TO give a 10 seconds commercial in it huh?
LOL Cannot Unseen....
The fook did this come from? Was it excavated from the ancient ruins of a long-defunct 90s anime studio?
I felt like it was a DVD/VHDS special feature for a series/movie (Probably for a Saga collection for Dragon Ball Z) or was probably once out in stores back in 2003 but was discontinued later on.
this is so awesome!
and another thing, where is chrono?
It should be titled "時空冒険ヌウマモンジャ~".
I hope this can have part 3 and 4
2:17, Nu always loved the mop
All life begins and ends with a Nuu
This is awsome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Its made during the sneak games of course its old!
Only saw chrono twice
2:32 wow that monster certainly is nice
I've not beaten Chrono trigger yet
I beat Chrono trigger today
WHEN. WAS. THIS. MADE.
Where's Goku and Vegeta?
Man if they made a good anime of chrono trigger, that would be the shit!
this was very upsetting
isso explica pq o Crono é igual ao Goku, a Marle igual a Videl, a Lucca igual a Bulma, o Glenn humano igual ao Vegeta, e o Magus igual ao Cell, e o Janus (Magus criança) é igual ao Broly
pq?
@spikeharusame u can see him in da bakc round with lucca @00:24

just like Chrono Cross...
Now I feel so bad for killing them... (You know, you know)
This sure is quirky... What was the purpose of this anyway? A commercial for the game in Japan?

Better story than DBZ
My heart,Its Awesome and beautiful, :´( Why God? Why?
wait wheres crono?
Maybe they didn't want to focus an animated short on the actual protagonists (?)
McDonalds pun oh that's a bummer. I wish they actually made an anime of chrono trigger
+scourge259 they made a manga that stars them, and it was thankfully translated by fans
He briefly appears with Lucca at 0:22 lol
when u finally beat it on my pc, I was so happy cuz I couldn't find the L&R button for years xD
And Youre Not?!
Wait... what... Johnny? What
How the fuck did he get there from the future? He can't time travel
Wow, coool!

hmm.. is this a chrono trigger parody?
funny how this doesn't look akira toriyama at all...
Sorry auto correct snes
Judging by your use of English in that barbed reply, I'm going to assume that's a "no".
é tão bom isso apesar de eu querer o anime até hj do chrono trigger completo
Johnny is fricking hot
and Lucca
Yeah, but it's not what people wanted. As far as I know, none of the main characters are even mentioned in the series. Personally I don't even think it deserves to be associated to Chrono Trigger.
Lol I don't mind. This is cute lol
Why was Gonzalez changed to Gato?
