- For real, if we had any doubt that they're from YG, they quickly shut these down! Like I said, DNA don't lie and sometimes, you don't even need a DNA test to know, here for exemple! This screams of YG! From the beat, to the flow, to the MV, to the choreo, to the sets, to the structure of the song, the attitude etc.! Which is why I said that even though, they just debuted and I'm not that familiar with the, it still felt incredibly familiar and totally not out of reach! That said, I have to admit I was hoping for more vocals! This is actually something I said in my hour long dedicated video to BAEMON, but I shared that I wished they'd go for something more RnB maybe that would allow their vocals to shine because they're a power house when it comes to vocals and I wanted them to really push that forward. I supposed they opted for ta more performance base debut with a very YG sound that really does feel like a ritual of passage of sort, them receiving the batton and perpetuating the tradition! Which in itself is not a bad thing, I love it even! I truly hope to see them be able to refine their BAEMON identity within this YG DNA in the future though so that they can really grow as themselves and have their own flavor! Otherwise, the girls did phenomenal, the vocals are vocaling lol Their voices are so unique that each of them stand out! The raps are well ... they're from YG so what can I say nsnsns speaks for itself! And facial expressions got so much better as well! Great debut overall but still hoping for more vocals next time!

The wole Ahyeon situation:
Honestly i think the reason why they pushed the debut back from stepember is because they hoped that Ahyeon will recover, in the end she didn't, and i think they decided to not delay the debut any longer, because of a) contracts of other members b) just a hype would slowly die more and more.
They decided to debut them with a single, with originaly was suppose to be an album with couple of songs, acording to articles that YG was speaking to, they said that they secured NUMEROUS amount of trackS.
And the reason why they aren't clear with Ahyeon situation is because they don't even know themselfs when or IF she will recover, thats why they never said clear that 1. She's on hiatus 2. She's leaving, and they never officialy stated that she's leaving, like they did with pre-debut TREASURE member Ha-Yoonbin
Of course YG wants Ahyeon to comeback, because that would be massive hit to the group if Ahyeon wouldn't be in Babymonster, i think it's like Jennie would leave blackpink, she was suppose to be face and center of the group
Yang Hyunsuk prepared this group for 5 years, he wrote his name under this group as an executive producer and main producer, we can say a lot bad about him, but i genuinly believe that he has strong plans for this group, considered the fact that, WINNER, IKON, TREASURE lost it's members he 100% considered the fact that something might happen to the member's health or mental health especially since they're so young
So in the end i think, that YG still have hopes for Ahyeon's comeback, and as soon as she recovers and she'll be ready we will see BABYMONSTER OT7 comeback with an album (january, february 100%)
edit: Yeah, YG confirmed that they don't have scheduled promotions for batter up, it just screams that they're waiting for Ahyeon, i understand, but at the same time kinda feel unfair for other 6 girls?

Why are you guys complicating it too much, in my opinion, ahyeon could have debuted in the music video but not participate in the music shows, obviously they filmed this when she was still very well, she could still debut without taking part in the promotions, if she doesn't get better later on, then yg could say they have been hoping for things to improve but seeming as it isn't possible, she would be removed...I just feel like there is no need to be ambiguous about this situation

The Center role is like the Eye for the group, if a group have a good Center-based member, then the others will look good too. If the Center-based member doesn't fit the role, it can go downhill for the group. The advantage about Chiquita is that she is good with facial expression, so that's why the group looks good altogether.

I think this is the most sincere reaction I've ever seen. It really gives a real insight into the group. She didn´t talk about comparisons, she didn´t mention a specific group at any time. Just said here is the essence of YG. She gave us two visions and that allows each person to generate their own opinion. Besides, she stands out the good things and that´s correct, they are very talented.

Ahyeon is talented, and if her absence is truly due to illness, I hope she recovers before getting into all the madness of a debut Now, it was difficult to postpone the debut, the fans were demanding it and the market was waiting, apart from the renewal of BP.
What I don't think is that Ahyeon's fans demean the other girls, making less of the song and her debut because she's not there.
Each of the members performed their part very well and I think there was a correct distribution of lines. If Ahyeon joins, whose lines will be removed?

the thing is the song grew on me overtime, when it first came out I wasn’t the biggest fan of the chorus and the ending bit, but as time went by the chorus grew on me SO MUCH LIKE I NOW LOVE THE FUNKYNESS OF IT and the ending part, the second part with the little dancing with the hand movements, really gave me YG and again it sounds so FUNKY in a good way, overall the song really grew on me.

I'm really sure they will explore different genres and concepts in the future. I loved everything about this debut, I don't see any problem of it sounding like a 2NE1 or BP song, it's their first song, let's give them time. Also, when BP debuted people said the same about them, that they were a version of 2NE1 and even released As if it your last, that was supposed to be a 2ne1 song!. I see people judging baby monster, saying that Batter up sound like a b-sidr of BP. And what's the problem with that? BP was exactly the same when they debuted and look at them now. YG is using this as an marketing strategy, once again. Babymonster on their own (no individual member) is already famous and loved so it’s already a guaranteed successful debut. Imagine Ahyeon joins them next comeback… that’s literally a locked and loaded comeback too 😭 Sooo smart.

There a lot of easter eggs in this song for us YG stans, there are tributes to BP, Big Bang, Treasure, Akmu, Lisa like you mentioned. Its the baby of the family giving an homage to their seniors and adding their flavor and letting the world know they are proud to be from YG. They will come out with ballads and R & B songs, I am sure soon enough but in a time saturated with very talented other GG- their strength is their YG DNA because there is a market for it. I feel nolstagic when I listen to it and my daughter who did not experience 2ne1 or BP now gets to be a fan too of the YG DNA.

I actually love this song so much. Yes it is yg coded and thats the reason why i love it..i am only into kpop because of yg music. For me yg music and their skilled artists are just perfectly fit together. I knew this group was coming, but I didn't really check out any of their pre-debut contents, so I didn't really know what to expect, even less have I picked a bias. Well, what can I say - it's always the rappers, y'all. I don't know why, but in most groups I instinctively pick (one of the) the rapper(s) as my bias, mostly even before I even know that this is their position, so just based off of visuals and vibe. And Ruka and Asa...holy moly. I'm very content with my choice.

So I don't know if you can see my comment in this sea of comments but still I'm going to write it cos we have a connection..... Connection of being a YG artists fan for long time (I'm here since 2008)
So, I know that all this "health issues" can get really really sad ending (specially if it's YG) but I got different feelings this time.. reason -
YG already tried to delay debut because of they probably wanted to debut all 7 of them togather but it wasn't possible from now on because if you're following k-pop news recently then you'd know that 1. YG stocks were all time low because of blackpink's uncertain future, but still they tried to hold on babymonster until all members are fit to debut....... Until
2. YG (YHS) got imprisoned for 6 months and that really really dented companies reputation. So they absolutely didn't have any option but to debut Babymonster as 6 members group.
Now, why I have different (positive) feeling about Ahyeon's situation? Because YG already delayed the debut and tried their best to wait for her... And most importantly, I haven't seen YG responding to the fake rumours of member's potential leaving this fast.. ever. Like they responded in JUST 3-4 hours. Also we can see few hints that YG is trying to show us that "someone" is missing from the M/V teaser.
Asa’s is a monster in the female rap for fifth gen, and that’s given because yg are full of monsters. Can’t wait for the next comeback. N next reaction could you check out boysplanet group called Onepact. They have three debut songs out right now, and they officially debut Thursday on the 30th.
My take: Personally, I loved the song. It felt like classic YG but with a strong (enough) modern evolution, so best of both worlds for my taste. Of course its amazing that ASA got composing and lyric credits on the debut, what's very promising for the future. The song has insane rap parts without loosing the vocals and individuality of each member in the song / mixing. Everybody got their moment to shine. Its obviously designed with modern sensibilities in mind (tiktok etc.) but I love that we also finally got a full 3+ min song from YG again. I even like the lyrics. Very confident but without coming across arrogant (I don't want anything but your heart), without looking down on the listener (I would never do you wrong) and even being inclusive (everybody ... We are the monsters of the world ... Let's run anywhere). If I had to critique something it would be that the second chorus should have build on and not repeat the first chorus. I'm also not happy that we only got a digital single. At least one B-Side would've been important in my opinion (to use it as chance to show a slightly different take maybe more vocal RnB focused). But overall very happy with the release. Of course I wish Ahyeon well and hope she can join the group later
Ahyeon was marketed as #1 choice, most likely leader and center of the group, maybe the most popular member of them all. They obviously wanted her to debut. So having her not debut must've been a difficult decision. Maybe the first delay (from September to November) was already an attempt to wait for Ahyeon. Prioritizing health (if thats the truth) is the right decision. But everybody would've complained if they delayed the debut again (yet another group that YG delays into oblivion). So if you get bashed either way, then just debut them as is (it will be a success no matter what) and bolster your stock price as well as distract from your legal problems. As for the song itself: YG promised that Babymonster would have and represent the "YG DNA". So if they do something new for the debut, everybody would've complained that this is not YG. While staying true to their promise produces complaints that its nothing new. Again either way, YG gets the hate. We got similar situations with Blackpink releases. I think it was the right decisions to go with the YG style but modernize it just enough. We celebrate when other companies stay true to themselves and for example SM releases yet another SM-song, but its "cool" to hate on YG and their GGs. So YG will get the hate no matter what. They then can at least stay true to their own identity.
I super agree! it's either debut them now or wait until later to debut them with the same song. it will get the same reaction. everyone got a good amount of lines and it was a safe song to debut with. Easy to listen to. I actually like the song. They also have many more chances to do other concepts. my thing with yg is that no matter what, they will perform live well. I personally think YG stays the same bc they still provide something that other companies cannot. I still think yg needs more creatives and venture out more ( they keep everything in-house). but the magic of yg is the artists bringing their personality and talents to the music/performance. We've seen big bang, 2ne1, blackpink, akmu, winner, ikon. and treasure do that. Can't wait for baemon to grow and carry that spirit with them

Here’s my 5 cent. A lot of ppl will said oh this is really YG coded, similar like BP n so on. Look, the girls choose YG because they were influence with YG artist. With their concept, the style. Ive been YG fan for decade. If BM suddently debut with cute high school theme, i will be taken aback a bit and i dont think YG is expertise in that area.
Same like others, i want to see something new fresh but not too far from their hip hop style. Slight changes but the base, the concept remain the same.

Same thoughts initially. That YG could've showcased the strong suits of these girls. But thinking about it now, I'm glad that they didn't.
I think YG's intention here is to establish that BABYMONSTER has the famous YG DNA. These babies will develop their sound eventually and inject their talents into it little by little. Baby steps for these lil Monsters, I'm sure in time they'll devour KPop and will leave no crumbs.

the thing is, they are a publicly traded company, they just dont answer to the fans, they answer to share holders so the debut date being pushed back then pushed back again is probably not a good look to their share holders. so they were probably pushed to release the debut date with a missing member.

I love it ! It suits them well, they are young and very confident. I can't wait for their next MV. To those people who are disappointed, the only reason is, they keep comparing Babymonster to their seniors and other YG artists, but for me, as a Blink and only discovered kpop because of Blackpink and never watched other groups, until Babymonster, i love it, i support them all the way, the same way i am supporting Blackpink. I enjoyed both concept. You may say i am an ignorant kpop fan, yeah maybe, but, i do not consider Blackpink as kpop idols, same with Babymonster, for me, they are world class performers.
When I watched the MV, there’s so many references that I can think of specially from Blackpink and Treasure From the arrangement to visual background to the dance choreo. The rap line was crazy good though. This is just debut so there’s more to come and hopefully they will comeback stronger and 7.

If (hopefully when) Ahyeon comes back into the group I could see her doing the high note over the party ending for sure! I think maybe her health issues were what pushed the debut back so much in the first place, but YG really wanted to get this group out by the end of the year and had to make the call to just have the 6 of them. There are some parts of the choreo that really seem to be leaving an empty space for someone which gives me hope but you never know with YG, we’ve all been burnt before lol

I think they are and will be unrivaled for the whole 5th gen GG (even BG) They will be getting brand deals and ambassadorships within their first year. Blackpink is my ultimate group but Babymonster is now a close second.

It is really unfortunate that Ahyeon is not able to debut with them, but her health is more important than anything. Yes, YG could have waited, but they couldn't because a lot of people were not being patient. So they debuted without her. Once Ahyeon gets better, she will join the rest of Babymonster, and you can bet that that comeback is going to be insane 😊❤️

I think people are way to harsh on the girls and yg artists in general rather than focusing on the company itself . No doubt they talented and I see it … the rap line saved the song for me. I do want to note that it seemed age appropriate compared to Young Posse’s Debut , it didn’t push a sexual undertone which I’m glad for . I really do wish they could have done a double song debut like BP so it could have showcased there range in talents … also something that pisses me off is how people expect an ep or album from a newly debuted group … doesn’t make any sense . All in all love your reaction and I’m looking forward to their comeback
Honestly my thought on their debut is the debut date was initially pushed back because of Ahyeon and they might've waited for her and they might have had a problem picking the songs because they might have chosen another one other Batter Up because it would suit the 7 members but then Ahyeon could not join the debut any moment soon that's why they changed plans last minute and re-do the plans? Re-record and choregraphy. But these are the story I've made with myself.
And the longer YG would drag the debut date the more they would be hated but of course fans would not understand that. This debut strategy is still good they made an impact and they will more once Ahyeon joins. That's another reason that the group name would make a noise.

I love all the girls of Babymonster. I watched them since they were introduced and been waiting for their debut.
I think it's their strategy to not include Ahyeon in the debut and save her for the next song so more people will still be hyped to watch the group.
I just hope they are not stalling bad news regarding Ahyeon. Like maybe she left the company and just saying she is just resting and still in the group just not the debut.

It is really YG CODED. And the way you know every part screaming of the group of YG. Sometimes is so 2ne1 and Blackpink but also sounds like Treasure.
