DECLAN RICE IN THE 97TH MINUTE! | Luton Town vs Arsenal (3-4) | Martinelli, Gabriel, Jesus, Havertz
Вставка
- Опубліковано 4 гру 2023
- Declan Rice managed to come up with a last-second winner to clinch a 4-3 win at Luton Town in a classic encounter.
Our first game against the Hatters since 1991 was one to remember, and early goals from Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Osho looked like sending the sides in level at the break but Gabriel Jesus headed us back in front before the interval.
Within 10 minutes of the restart, strikes from Elijah Adebayo and Ross Barkley put the hosts in front, but we were behind for just three minutes later Kai Havertz managed to pull us level again just before the hour mark.
As the game ticked past the six allotted minutes of injury-time, it looked as though we would be forced to settle for a point but once again we managed to strike late through Rice's glancing header to snatch all three points.
Incredibly looking at the final scoreline, the game actually took some time to warm up and it would be 20 minutes until the first attempt was created - but fortunately for us it was one we made count.
It stemmed from an error from Hatters keeper Thomas Kaminski who struggled to deal with a backpass and opted to play it safe and get the ball out of play. However, instead of wallopping it into the stand, he calmly played it off the advertising hoardings, and we capitalised.
Some quick thinking and swift throw from Jesus found Bukayo Saka who drove into the box and cut the ball back for Martinelli to tuck neatly into the bottom corner and finally breathe life into the encounter.
It then exploded into life four minutes later, but this time it was the hosts who were celebrating. Luton won a corner and they showed their set-pice prowess when Alfie Doughty whipped a delivery into the area, and Osho managed to divert it past David Raya to restore parity.
As the half progressed we began to rise to the physical challenge posed by Rob Edwards’ side, and started to find ourselves in the final third more often. Martinelli and Saka both fired powerful efforts at goal which Kaminiski managed to push away, but just as it looked like the teams would go into the interval level, we struck again in the final minute of the half.
Ben White received possession on the right and utilised his excellent link-up skills with Saka to play a one-two with the attacker and catch the defence napping, and he clipped a cross into the box which was perfect for Jesus to sprint onto and powerfully dispatch into the net to change the emphasis of Arteta’s team talk.
The second half began in a nightmare fashion for us as we swiftly saw the game flip on its head. Just three minutes after the break, lightning struck twice after Andros Townsend saw a shot deflect wide for a corner, and the delivery was sent in by Doughty and this time Adebayo got in front of Raya to head it into the net and frustrate us again.
The home crowd were up and were urging their team on, which inspired Barkley to drive forward eight minutes late and find his former England colleague Townsend, and after he twisted and turned but couldn’t conjure up a shooting opportunity, he returned the ball to the ex-Everton man who fired in a low shot that slipped under Raya and send Kenilworth Road into pandemonium as they got themselves in front.
Having been stung by the quick turnaround, we could have been forgiven for taking a moment to merely regroup, but instead we went straight down the other end and made it 3-3 just before the hour mark. A high hook into the box by Saka was well controlled by Jesus who showed strength to keep possession, and he lobbed it into the onrushing Havertz’s path to prod past Kaminski and score his third goal in his last four appearances.
From that point onwards it was one-way traffic as we pressed to get in front again. Martin Odegaard saw a shot from range fly straight to Kaminski and the lively Leandro Trossard then saw a shot deflect wide after his introduction from the bench.
Havertz looked like he might win it late on when he met an Oleksandr Zinchenko cross with his head but Kaminski tipped it over the crossbar late on, but the goal would come with seconds remaining.
With our final attack, we threw bodies forward and Zinchenko found Odegaard whose cross was perfect for Rice to flick past his marker and into he far corner to send his teammates, the bench and the away end into ecstasy as we recorded our first win at the venue since 1984 - and it was worth the wait.

Respect to Luton, didn't put 11 men in their own defensive third like Brentford did. Came at us hard and almost got rewarded.
They deserve to stay up
They gave arsenal a tough game!!
@@nieqhif they can continue to play like that at least every home game, then i believe they can definitely stay up. Away games can be overwhelming for new teams but they can fortify their home stadium and fight to win.
its lonely at the top🔊🗣️(i actually want arsenal to win the epl)
Everyone praising Luton doesn't realize it's just another one of those clubs that play like it's a World Cup final against a top team, but get battered by everyone else. There is always that one team like them every season, it's just the name that changes. I have no respect for such teams whatsoever- they rather focus on getting a point against a top team than surviving.
They aren't saying we overpaid for Rice anymore 😂 What a Signing!!! PL Signing of the season. Worth every single penny!! 🔥🔥
Signing of the season?? Never knew disasi playing with Arsenal
@@Emre_Za Bro could've said anyone and chose Disasi lmfao. The best signing of the season is Rice no question. Close second would probably be Maddison honestly
@@Emre_Za Disasi who?
@@T_667no mate Cole Palmer and Dominik Szoboslai are definitely up there. It's subjective honestly
@@alwandzedlamini6960 It's really not. Palmer is in a team that is mid-table. Dominik is good but Liverpool aren't winning the league down to him. They need a Rice. Rice is, without any doubt, the signing of the season and, for that fee, the best player ever purchased at over £90m bar VVD.
Jesus once again demonstrates his impact in so many ways. The clever quick throw to set up the first. The way he attacked that header. The excellent hold up work before setting up Havertz for the tying goal, just to name a few things...

Nobody's leaving until we acknowledge just how perfect that cross from Odegaard was for the winning goal. On a dime.
Nobody's leaving until we acknowledge just how appalling Raya's performance was Esc. Onana type
Nobodys leaving until we acknowledge Odegaard giving away the ball in mid field which led to Raya’s screw up
@@JonSief Raya played quite well, actually. Yes, big mistake on the 2nd goal, but our defense had a really bad day on corners too.
@@Phalvesaurus Giving away the ball in mid field? Is that really how you saw it?
And Zinchenko. People love to dis him but he’s been involved in every important goal we scored. The “lay up” for Odegaard was technically perfect. Our only full back who can build up this way. Also vs Liverpool
Great win and I have to say, props to Luton. They weren't to be taken lightly. Big three points!

First off all Kai Havertz your commitment and determination to do better each and every game is not going unnoticed. Declan Rice what a quality player trully a legend in the making
Havertz is turning into the player we have been hoping for. Three goals from four games...that cannot be a fluke.

You don't get easy points going there and I really hope Luton would stay up this season so we can see more of big teams playing there and having to fight for it, which is what makes the Premier League so much fun! Rice, Ødegaard & Havertz bailed Raya out of the mess that he created tonight. These three points will taste sweeter due to the late winner. What a tremendous fighting spirit shown by the players. Vamos!
Spot on. Poor performance by Raya.
Don't forget Saka and Jesus!! Both involved in the first 3 goals!

Thats what he always bring on the table. That is Kai Havertz that I know from his Leverkusen days and i keep saying it just give him a damn time. Not everybody could settle to his new club like Trossard or Rice quickly

I’m glad someone notices what he brings to the team. He’s like gravity with great positioning.
@@nabazaheer Yeah, Havertz playstyle is similar like Muller a Raumdeuter. If you watched his time on Leverkusen you would notice it. always backed havertz and believed arteta could bring the old leverkusen kai back, but wow, he's really shining right now, give him a couple more games and he'll definitely show that 65m was a bargain for the amazing sense of positioning this man has.
about time another manager figured out how to use havertz, he is like a baby Muller, usually is a little behind the more advanced attackers and makes amazing runs into the box to help with playmaking or scoring. You could see it in Leverkusen when they gave him the freedom right behind the striker it was absolutely magical hopefully Arteta can seize this opportunity and bring back that wonderkid
Villa fan here. Kudos. Big kudos. I think the biggest testimony to how good a signing Rice has been is that there hasn't been any real spotlight on his performances, at least not that i've seen. There hasn't been the scrutiny. He's just come into the team and looked like he's the most established player there.
We've got you guys on Saturday, and I'm expecting a close match. In my mind we should and could have drawn or won last time out at Villa Park where you guys won 4-2, with the own goal and the last minute breakaway goal maybe making it look like more of a victory than it really was. A lot of good footballing talent on show, and may the best team win.

Have to say this has been the most hard fought game of Arsenal this season. We have played with some great teams in Europe and the UK and i haven't seen such pressing and such passion from opposition for all 90 minutes. Luton lacked the quality and if Arsenal was better on the day the game would have been much easier but that pressing was impressive. I don't remember any other team pressing Arsenal so much this year. Arsenal has had 2 losses and 3 draws this year and all of those i consider either unlucky, or a terrible day for our players and i never thought the opposition was better, any time we lost points i thought Arsenal was just bad. Today Arsenal wasn't bad (wasn't at its best either) Luton just played an excellent game and that was the most entertaining game i saw all year, maybe not entertaining but thrilling for sure.
Havertz going strong. Love to see it. Shut a few people up lately, for sure 🔥

Everyone talks about Rice ( which did fantastic ofc ) but they tend to forget Ødegaard. He dominated the last 20~ min of the game and set this up. And what about last game where he was "robbed" of 2 assists. He's creating so many chances for the gunners and yet he's often overlooked after amazing performances like this one by the fans, especially the AFTV guys. Credit where credit is due. Now, I'm happy we won, but I'm so very concerned about the kind of goals Raya conceded.😢
David Raya continues to fail and it is thanks to his teammates that the game is rescued. I don't understand why the Boss forgives David everything and crucifies Aaron for very little. Aaron is an extraordinary goalkeeper and is part of the team that brought us back to the Champions League and kept the team fighting for the league last tournament.

Raya is total crap but Ramsdale is the least crap out of both of them.

We need to talk about the raya problem two goals on him. If we do enter champions league final against a team like real madrid with kroos, Modric and Valverde they'll be shooting from 30 yards and raya wont catch it. Unbelievable grit by the rest to keep going, very evident Zinny’s strengths and how they help. Can’t help but think MA kept him as an ace up the sleeve to come on against tired Luton legs to try and seal it, ended up being to nick it. Kai and Rice looking better and better as they settle in.

What a player. The way Rice has impacted every game at Arsenal, someone should make a comp on number of points won by him for Arsenal both defensively and offensively. And I will say it again, Arsenal underpaid for Rice. Westham got robbed.
Really😅😅😅😅
I think we paid enough at least it's good to know we didn't overpay like how opposition fans were saying during his transfer
They did not get robbed. No matter how you look at it 105 million is load of money. They got paid well for him. 2 years left on his contract and 105 million is a lot. It is the most expensive signing by Arsenal ever and it is DM not a striker. But the question is was he worth the damn money, and it surely looks like it. United payed 75 million for Anthony, was it worth it. No because he has not been transformative succes for his team. If he were than he would be those money worth.

How many mistakes does Raya have to make before Arteta realises he’s not an upgrade on Ramsdale. I don’t mind dropping Ramsdale in favour of a better keeper, that’s the way it goes, but Raya has just made constant mistakes since the beginning of the season
f*ck knows. and now without playing time ramsdale is rusty AF as he showed against brentford. what a clusterfk of a situation
Its not mistake, he is just not world class enough for arsenal. If ramsdale last year was PHENOMENAL, raya this season look normal. Arteta made a huge mistake replacing a world class keeper that we had.
Totally agree, he will lose us the league.

Couldn’t ask for a better game, but i’m still in no way comfortable with Raya being the first team keeper. He doesn’t get tested enough, the few times he does, there’s a 50/50 real problem .
The mistake Raya made for that third goal was he the fact that he tried to lay down to catch the ball. In such situations, the keeper has to use the knee is a lot quicker and faster. Ramsdale will do that.
