@@happy4lol cool, it was for my English class, I needed to learn how to find different genres of literature as this one is pretty much American literature for the depiction of 1920 American rich people
I’ve been tirelessly looking for this song all day. The intro just popped into my head. I went to movies I own and when I saw The Great Gatsby it clicked. Finally I can rest.
I'm just mad this songs not on the soundtrack, really got the soundtrack for this song. Still an amazing compilation of music and great talent. Bringing a classic into the modern age without really destroying it. Gatsby has been my favorite book for years and I can't wait to see this version.
Its such a good book! Even if your not interested in the history behind it all the suspicion and corruption surrounding Gatsby and the disillusionment of his dream makes it a phenomenal read.
basically every adult and college student I have ever met have said they read the book in high school. It has been very popular in english classes for many many years. Always one of the more well known.
"I can confirm with a fact that the Great Gatsby is NOT studied as part of the literature curriculum in China, Hong Kong, Taiwan or Macau, that's more than 1.3 billion people." That's very sad. You should demand higher standards in your education system.
It's a drama. Yes, it's absolutely worth reading. It takes place in the 1920s but connects SO much to how things are today. Everyone in it is cynical, drunk, rich, luxurious, partying, trying to find a deeper meaning to it all but not quite grasping it. Longing for the past, idealizing things that are long gone. Creating grand stories about themselves. Trying to live that American Dream but falling short and crashing spectacularly. One of the most important books about modernity ever written.
I'm pretty sure the pure existence of this movie helped the popularity of the book, a lot. The Great Gatsby was never one of the more well known and studied Eng lit in Asia, the top ones are always stuff like Madame Bovary, Pride and Prejudice, Wuthering Heights, War and Peace, anything by Shakespeare, Charles Dickson, etc.
I would say it depends on your age. As a teen I read this book and I thought it was incredibly boring. Again read it as a freshman in college and was still too young to understand. Its not as if now I'm so much older and wiser but I definitely appreciate the message of the book a lot more. It's not so much action, mystery or drama as it is a telling of our society. Many themes are touched: the American dream, opulence, desire, illusion, etc. The story mirrors Fitzgerald's life.
This soundtrack is perfect. Now that the movie is still unseen I cannot speak of it's style but i imagine it being kind of identical to the 1996 Romeo and Juliet in terms of timeless elements. Among others this very amazing soundtrack..
that migh be in Asia, but here up north-middle-no-where in Argentina we do know that book, and many other classics of American lit. It's very sad that you haven't read it, it's actually a great book
Gastby isn't always covered in classes, just because it's rather deep and needs a lot of discussion time, most of which is spent on translating Shakespearean (for those who don't pay attention in class) but it's a great book, of which the movie didn't quite do justice, you should definitely read it.
New York, 1922. The tempo of the city had changed sharply. The buildings where higher, the parties where, bigger. The morns where looser, and the liquor was cheaper. The restlessness approached hysteria.
Any literature can remain relevant far beyond the time and place of their writing, you just need to find the connection. Whether a work has significant influence on subsequent history and literature is already itself a subjective opinion and one prone to heated debate. The human experiences is unimaginably vast, diverse and personal. Your human experience is undoubted drastically different than mine. No single book can encompasses them all. And nice job for avoiding my other questions.
Notable works are those that had a significant influence on subsequent history and literature, and added to the human conversation in such a way as to remain relevant far beyond the time and place of their writing. Novels that are "lost" or are in cultures that were unknown cannot be notable, by definition (there was and is no way to take note of them). And thus they cannot be revolutionary either. The human experience encompasses all cultures, countries, and peoples--by definition.
American lit is on the syllabus of the intl schools in Macau and HK, Great Gatsby being one of 'em. I never saw it as a great work of art, but more of a beach read. That's my opinion. And the Hong Kong population is more familiar with American lit than one would expect. Hongkeys are an international lot, Chinese and expats.
Kanye is so influential that even people in the 1920s played it
This made me laugh thank you so much
The Great Gatsby was one of the greatest movies I ever seen.
***** The acting is a lot like The Hobbit and Lord Of the Rings
Did you read the book? It's cool too
@@gaelatriano5996 Holy shit dude. I wrote this comment 6 years ago, didn't even know I did it xD.

Now let's see Paul Allen's song

Anything by Whitney Houston.
It's an amazing book. I would say it includes many elements. Once you finish reading it, it's story will stick with you forever.
Beautiful intro riff ol' sport... *J Gatsby smile*

The beat and bg is sick already. But JayZ and Kanye make this song a masterpiece. I can listen to this all day. Oh wait. I already am ;)
The Music on this song is so gripping, and catchy. Love this song!
I also normally hate rap, but this song is actually not that bad. That opening rhythm is so damn catchy!
This Book Changed My Life, And Showed Me A New Side Of Evil. I Recommend It Completely!
In my younger and more vulnerable years my father gave me some advice that I've been turning over in my mind ever since....
This song has a very interesting concept. Excellent choice of artists for the Soundtrack BaZ!!!

Kanye and Jay are the few real rappers left out there... cudos to them.
I read it as a teen and I loved it. Such a sad story of carelessness. :.( Fave older classic book!
I Loooooooooooove this song. So glad tht it got an award and is the offical gatbsy song
I heard Gatsby was a war Lord...
I heard he’s a german spy
I heard he's a descendant of a German emperor
I’ve heard he’s 3rd cousin to the Kaiser and 2nd to the Devil
such a badass song. hands down best movie of this year.
I live by you desire
I stand by you, walk through the fire
Your love is my scripture
Let me into your encryption
....This is philosophically intense
I CANT WAIT to see this film! i hope it lives up to the hype and this soooong! its amazing!
I'd looked for this song since hearing the instrumental in the Great Gatsby trailer. Now I've found it. Yes!
Now I have to see the movie.
Great Gatsby brought me here... perfect theme song...

this song is legendary. hella addictive
A quote from Chris Rock: "If the beat's alright, they'll dance all night" :D
Love this beat!
"The past is impossible to repeat. Why of course it is."
The line "Gatsby? What Gatsby?" is one of the central turning points in the book.
Frank Ocean kills it in this song :)
the great gatsby brought me here cant wait for the movie
AWESOME TRACK :) LOVE THE trailer and the Costumes CAST :) love leonardo dicaprio :)
all these artists do is deliver brilliance.

The Great Gatsby is fantastic.
This is gonna be an AWESOME MOVIE I seriously can't wait!!!!

Fitzgerald, Luhrmann, DiCaprio, Kanye West... I am living in a dream, I am looking forward so much!
'and so we beat on, boats against the current, borne ceaselessly back into the past'
THIS BEATZ JUST BROUGHT ME BACK TO 1920's in 4D hahha!
that migh be in Asia, but here up north-middle-no-where in Argentina we do know that book, and many other classics of American lit. It's very sad that you haven't read it, it's actually a great book
Wow. What a song!!!
This makes the trailer that bit better
I am not 0.o...Im excited for this movie! The song choices are very well fitting I think :D
That's his point Sir Derpingston, 90% of the musical tunes you hear are synthesized nowadays
The films out 4 days before my English exam where I'm writing about the book, I think it calls for a study trip to the cinema
yah thats true, they sound great together!
Dope, Jay Z really caught the feel of what Great Gatsby was kind of like.
it is so interesting that a movie like this (i mean refering to another decate)uses modern sounds like this...
kan niet wachten om de film te zien!!
de verbinding van muziek uit de 21e eeuw met de jaren 20 van de vorige eeuw vind ik subliem...
Damnit. Yet again, I inadvertently love a Kanye song.

There are only the pursued, the pursuing, the busy and the tired.
Exactly, the lyrics are pretty interesting too.
THANK YOU, Elliot! God, some people don't even know what they're talking about. And by the way there's no need to get offensive!
This is just awesome!!
God i wish we studied this book in school.. then I'd surely pass with a passion.

'Tomorrow we will run faster, stretch out our arms farther, and then one fine morning..'
that's is the greatest Idea I've ever heard, no lie :D!
It's on the deluxe edition of the soundtrack, you could buy it on iTunes
I never expected to hear Socrate's and Plato's names to a song like this lol

best soundtrack ever
Gotta love this
I don't know but I remember hearing it in a car or truck commercial a while back.
