A commenter below said she lacks the technical skills to be in the Bolshoi Theater. I lack the knowledge to say if that comment is correct or not, but what struck me is her seeming maturity at such a young age. Very young, very mature.

She is lovely. I saw her and Jacopo Tissi in Swan Lake in London, they made a wonderful, elegant young couple, with beautiful lines. Brava Alena!

I am really enjoying these series of compilation vlogs of young dancers showing their evolution from academy level to professionals. Thanks so much for takihg the time and effort to do them - much appreciated! Would love to see one of Anastasia Smirnova a Vaganova graduate of 2020 now doing so well at the Mikhailovsky and one of my favourites Daria Ionova at Vaganova graduate now at the Marinsky.

I know. Isn't she amazing??!! If I recall, she did not make finals at Prix de Lausanne which just goes to show you!!! Maybe she was injured. Well-deserved promotions at Bolshoi. Beautiful dancer, gorgeous lines, such arm span, so tall.
She is about 179cm and for the Marijinsky was to tall.......good for the Bolshoi!!!!!!
I don't think it would have had anything to do with an injury. In my view, one has to consider all the RAD-type judges, who were never well known primas -- or primas at all -- at that competition. Another consideration is that many of these Western circuit competition winners end up not making it to the top.

It seems to me that Alena was on the pick of her technique while she was in Vaganova Academy. No improvement in the recent performances. She is very good, but without hard work on technique every day it is not possible to improve artistry that makes ballerinas special. Thank you for the nice presentation.

She does very nice work and I like her graceful arms and long legs. There is something that I do not enjoy about her dancing--maybe her height? i have always found extremely talldancers to be a little bit awkward but in a way that I cannot put my hand on. Maybe have such a long frame, it is harder to maneuver and the movements just look more laborious to me. I think Bolshoi is obsessed with tall dancers as of late which I do not understand very well. I do not know... I am waiting for the next Bolshoi ballet star. Evgenia and Sveta and Ekaterina are still performing. Undoubtedly, whoever it is, will probably come from training at the Vagonava Ballet Academy (I do not find BBA graduates to be as good as VBA graduates nowadays), but I do not think it is Ms. Kovaleva. I must pay more attention!

If you have a background in ballet you can apply online if you’re the right age and talent. It’s expensive though (unless you’re a Russian citizen, then it’s all completely different)

Kovaleva is a beautiful ballerina. The problem of high growth is compensated by a very good classical training. I wonder, her dance is more technically accurate in the Vaganova Academy than in the theater. It is very strange. I hope it just seemed to me.
she needs a proper teacher, to make her a perfect ballerina.

Thank you very much! I'm sorry to say it but I don't want to see Ms. Kovalyova as prima ballerina in BT. She has not strong enough technical skills and she is simply to tall for the partners and the ensemble. She would be better in place in Ejfman ballet as she is better in dancing contemporary and that company has another height standards. IMHO.
скоро и Большой превратится в Эйфмана, потому что русскую классику из него активно выдавливают.. так что, Алёна по вашим доводам может там совсем к месту оказаться..

She would be an excellent fit for New York City Ballet! That's if she was able to transition to Balanchine style and technique.

Вариации она танцевать может, но партии главные не тянет. Ногу к голове поднять можно, но технично прыгать, делать занозки не может. Не артистична. Сама по себе танцует. Но Вазиеву это нравится. На приму не тянет.
