I lived in Chingola from the age of 2 to the age of 9 I have great memories of living it was in the 70's I remember the shortages having to do more with less. I was a kid it never really affected me or bothered me. I remember my mum when she made her cup of tea would put honey in her tea instead of sugar, there was a shortage of sugar in Zambia at the time. We lived in 71 Mukome Street I remember the house it was a bungalow style house a garden at the front and a garden at the back with trees at the bottom of the back garden I used to climb when I went through my tomboy phase😂. Also in the back garden we had a patio and barbecue pit I don't really remember if we ever used it. Outside the kitchen window we had a huge pawpaw tree. At the side of the house we had mango trees, lime and orange trees which I used to pick and eat mangoes have been my favourite ever since so juicy and delicious much better than what we get here in Scotland. We also used to to go the cricket club, rugby club and the open air swimming pool that was where I basically taught myself how to swim that pool was fantastic I used to go there with all my friends and mum and dad used to spend the whole day there. We used to go to the cricket club mostly at night because everyone wanted to party I don't remember anyone ever playing rugby or cricket at these clubs 😅😊 it was more for social events and we had great fun there. My dad worked in the copper mines I think he was a manager in charge of the mechanics he worked on the huge trucks that were in the mines. I'll describe the house at 71 Mukome Street we lived in as you walk up to the house it had a front door we never used it was painted blue at the time as you stand looking out to the street the living room was on the left with huge windows with bars on them to prevent being broken in to. To the right was my bedroom I remember one year two lizards decided to live on my bedroom wall I was enchanted by them and even gave them name names lol Peter Pan and Tinker Bell 🤣🤣 then they decided to return to Neverland. We always used the back door which was never closed only at night when we went to bed. The kitchen was huge then you go through to the living room was also huge (to me anyway when I was a kid) then you go through a door to where the bedrooms and bathroom are. What I still think is a good idea sadly not replicated here in Scotland due to space. In the house in Chingola the bath and toilet were separate so if someone is having a bath or shower and another person had to use the toilet they could do so without bothering the person in the bath.
I remember the road that took us from our house to town it was a long road I remember on the side of the road you always saw dead squashed snakes. I can't remember the name of the road but I do remember it was long it had trees and scrubland on either side and a hill you had drive over once over that you were half way into town and half way home. Please can you make a youtube video of 71 Mukome Street, the open cast copper mines, the cricket club, rugby club and the open air swimming pool I believe the pool has been closed for quite sometime which is a great shame because it was a very popular place everyone who wanted to go swimming went there i used to spendthewholedaythere with my friends and family had tons of fun. And the road I described. It's been years since I last lived in Chingola I know a lot has changed for the better I hope but would love to see a video of the places I went to with my family and friends when I was a child. I still have family living in Chingola they have told me the old cinema is now a church. Thank you for a great video.

Hi, thanks for your post. i can relate to your video because my family and I lived in Chingola from 1980 til 1994, almost 15 years when I worked in the mine which was then NCCM then ZCCM at the Concentrator as a section engineer . We initially lived at 54 Mupundu Crescent at the Kabundi township then moved to the town in 11th Street and finally in 65 12th Street. During those years Chingola was a well maintained town better than it is now. Residential areas were well kept, the Upper and Lower Trust Schools and various sports clubs were second to none though shopping centres were not as big as they are now. I wish that I and my family can come and see Chingola again to hopefully meet old friends and work mates.

I lived in Chingola from 1989 to 1991 in 5th street.. There were no wall fences on houses. The church you see on Fern Avenue at 6:13 used to be a cinema. It was called Vestra cinema. I remember watching a few Van Damme movies there. There used to be basketball and volleyball courts behind the church. The football stadium at 7:45 used to be pristine. It looks messy now.

The rugby club used to have a fence all round with big gates where the rugby ball was that I told you about, also stands where you could sit and watch the games, just looks like a big field now?

I give this video a thumbs up for cleanness (although the stadium area roadside is a let down) & for having street paint markings even though the road at the beginning & the 6th street are terrible. Nevertheless, I now have hope that they’ll get fixed. I am an Ndolan person but I used to spend some time visiting a friend in Chingola near the town centre in one the streets & it’s good to see the town is looking cleaner than the last time I saw it in 2018. If you’re still there, plse, capture Chingola civic centre as well. Thanks.

@@Traveltainment Thanks so much & that will be great. I know that we now have some nice malls there too, but the more I see much of Ndola city centre along Independence & Buteko Avenues & Chisokone Road of Avenue, the more my soul gets sorrowful because I know how Ndola used to look like. Still, if will be a pleasure to see how Ndola is looking in 2022.
