They break in after use or if prepared, the equipment managers for nfl teams usually do that for the duke, same as the Nike Vapor or Wilson gst which are the most common balls used at the college and HS level,

The NFL balls have to be sanded down, worn in, and rubbed with mud to make them soft and game ready. That’s why it’s so hard
