I had the opportunity to trade emails with Sonny about two years before he passed. I asked him why this excellent album did not get promoted on the streaming services. It is not even on CD. You can still find vinyl LPs on Ebay. He told me he did not own the copyright. The record company paid him for this album outright and that was it. This is a great album. The sideman were outstanding also. Rest in peace Sonny.
I bought this for my dad when it was released and I was 15. Inherited it soon after...wrong choice of jazz! 8:09 How come such an amazing album hasn't risen to the surface especially in these time? It's one of the albums from rock to jazz to soul and funk that formed how I listen to music and breakdown the improvised playing. We need to start a SF club !!!!! Brilliant album !
Had the great fortune to hear him play this, on flute, in 1994. The band was Sonny, Billy Harper, Eddie Henderson, McCoy Tyner, Avery Sharpe, and Aaron Scott. If only there was a good recording of that set!
I do the same thing man! Sometimes I am pleasantly surprised when something previously un-released in Cd format appears out of nowhere! I would Love to have these on Cd format as well, along with Walter bishop Jr Cubicle among countless others! Happy New Year!@@dmomcilovic9185
