There is so much you could say about the set they played at Sonisphere. This festival was their introduction to the world stage. They got an invitation after Loudpark, and they accepted. They booked two shows at very small venues, one in Paris, one in Cologne, just a few hundred fans each, but this was their first festival appearance in the west, in front of a crowd who had never heard a Babymetal song.
Sonisphere is a hardcore metal festival. They have the custom of bottling performers they don't like at Sonisphere. That is, taking empty water bottles, filling them with urine and tossing them at the band.
So when the band hit the stage they did not know how they would be received. It could have gone very badly.
To add to this they were not well treated by the festival management. Babymetal was given 30 minutes to get on and off the stage, including sound checks. So they were rushed,
When the girls peaked at the crowd before they went out, from their angle they could only see a few people, and when they walked on stage it turns out there were 60,000 people, of that maybe only 1,000 had ever heard a Babymetal song.
Su saw the crowd and said to herself, "Now, this is going to be fun."
It did not start smooth. Maybe it was because they were rushed, but Moa's ear monitors were not working when the first song started. She could only faintly hear the drums, she could not hear her queues at all. Yui noticed and gave them to her.
The monitors did get fixed quickly, but when the first song started, Yui and Su started to dance, and Moa just stood there.
By the end of the set, Yui's skirt was caught on one of her studs (they took studs off the costumes after this show) and was torn apart.
But the girls killed it. They won the crowd over and at the end the crowd was yelling "more, more", you can hear it at the end of the vid.
It would be a year before they were to get a record contract in Europe or North America. At the time of this show you could not buy a Babymetal CD outside Japan. I was listening to them on ITunes as that was the only place to get their music at the time. I had not yet gone down the foxhole and imported their music like I do now.
Loudpark a few months earlier and Sonisphere are the watershed moment for Babymetal, because they were the first time the group performed at festivals where the crowd were only metal heads and not fans of the girls or the Idol genre. And they proved they could reach past the traditional barriers. Who would have thought girls could sing and dance in Japanese and have a bunch of gnarly metalheads accept them?
This set is like when the Beatles played the Ed Sullivan show. Really a big moment.
Only been a fan for 3 months myself. Never seen them live. Just on youtube began with a Live show with CMIYC. When Queen Su-metal sang I was hooked and wanted everything.
They may have had several World Tours, but they have never been to NZ. A lot of my colleagues are metalheads, and they were miffed too.
You truly feel isolated when you miss something like this.
Got nearly all the concerts on DVD and Bluray, scored Su's 2009 musical, her 2012 Graduation from Sakura Gakuin, 6 disc 2017 Fox Festival (European version), and today bought the first release single of Doki Doki Morning, and that one is a rare find.
I went backwards, wentvfrom Kitsune to Fukei, and there is nothing for ASH.

Great reaction! This is my favorite Babymetal song! This is an Anti-bullying song. The title Ijime Dame Zettai translates to "No More Bullying Forever".

Now THAT'S how to react to this song! You are right, the drama unfolding is like a movie. Without understanding a word, one can tell this is about sadness, fighting and a resolution to change this. What a performance...this wonderful mournful opening by Su with her proud stance, and Moa and Yui charging up and down the stage like banshees when the song takes off, it shows an unheard of determination from girls that age. They gave it their all, and so did the band which provided a flawless canvas for them to paint on. I never ever saw anything like this, some people say that they played this song better at another concert, and I strongly disagree. One has to take everything into account what happened here. The bravery, the audience, the drama, the whole scene. It all resulted in a miracle.
“Are you not entertained?!” Oh yes! You and your girls were swept away by it, forgot you were commenting like I saw happen not only to you but also to other reactors on this song. And that's just so bloody good. And the faces your daughters made, priceless! Thank you!

You need to understand the story of this show. They were not suppose to be on main stage. They were suppose to be on smaller stage performing for 3000 to 5000 of their fans. There is opinion of why they were moved to main stage at last minute. No sound check. No getting on stage to see choreography points. The girls looked out and didn't see anybody from the angle they had. They didn't know about how many people were there til they walked out. If you watch the full set you can see one of the girls froze. They were so scared. But you can see in Gimmie Chocolate Su was going to win them over. She got the crowd on her hand. Su was 15 and the others were 14. How can they be that good that young . Love them.

They weren't moved last minute, that's a rumor that's wrong. There's an interview from a month before the show where one of the organizers is already talking about how they were moved up to the main stage.

This adrenaline rush you mentioned... I once did the failure, watching a show in the late evening (in the middle of the week) that I didn't seen before. Boy, it took me some time to get me to sleep later...

“Are you not entertained?!” Ya, this vid still impresses me: within 6months, ,3 shows; the one with Virgin Maryish statue (Su’s 16th bday), sooo many great vid clips, including Gimme Chocolate debut, which broke UA-cam in the West; Budokan 3 months later(first show that the band was used on every song); and this Sonisphere 3months later, essentially their international debut, 30mins to convert 50000 peeps, you just saw the result. Wish I’d done that at my 15th bday!!! (Like Moa & Yui)

You know, at this festival, they were originally supposed to make their UK debut on a small, safe side stage where they'd have all Babymetal fans to play to. At the last 10-15 minutes before go-time, they got pulled and moved to the big, central main stage where the majority of everyone had no inkling who they were or what to expect. Now that is a brave, go for broke performance! And as you can see, they won their hearts over and had them cheering for more when initially probably a forth of them were planning on throwing bottles at them. Like I said, really brave!
最も愛を大切に (Mottomo ai o taisetsu ni; cherish love the most) is a catchphrase that Moa made up herself using the kanji from her first name (最愛) 最=most, 愛=love; 最愛=beloved. Moa's name is literally written as "beloved" in Japanese.

Just to put this in perspective.... three Japanese girls around 15 years old managed on festival full of around 60 000 metal fans that more then half of them never heard for them, plus they did not understood word they were saying, until end of their performance, they made crowd sing with them in rhythm, jump and chant their name, they had that crowd in palm of their hands....... that is on festival that high profile metal bands go........
Three girls that were around 15 year then.... and then someone can dare to say those girls are just some "show up band".....
