- The first video of our second visit of orangutan baby Hujan, who was born this year at Krefeld Zoo. Due to a disease of the mother, he is raised by hand. He is developing magnificently.
A particularly obvious development step is that he can now climb quite well. In an interview with his main reference person, the zookeeper Eva Ravagni, we learn how the small little cute ape develops. We also see how he climbs on the exhibition and in his playpen.
At Zoo Krefeld, the orangutans are ambassadors of their endangered species in nature and the Monkey House team cares for them with much love and respect. Great apes, which like orang-utans are so threatened in the wild, need ambassadors of their species in modern zoos. Together with BOS, the Krefeld Zoo works for the the survival of orangutans in the wild.

Hujan is the cutest little thing and this woman is fantastic you can see the bond between them. I've seen her with others and she's a natural. You can tell she loves and deeply cares for them because she's so good with them. Thank you for all you do to help and love these little cuties. They're our future generation of orangutans. Hujan is so happy and growing so much and fast. I love his caretaker. Shes like a real mom. She lets him explore all he wants but is always an arms length away when he reaches for her. Day by day as he continues to grow older he'll wonder farther and farther, then the seperation will come and he will join his orangutan family. Granny and all. That has to be so hard for the caretaker. What an amazing person to keep opening their heart just to have them leave and a possible new one come along. That would tear me apart. You gotta be somone pretty special to keep doing that. However, when you know they're on their way back to the forrest, one has to feel pride knowing they were the first stepping stone on their way back to where they truly belong and fully FREE! Thank yiu for helping find his way home❤🐵😊
Thanks for your comment - in the meantime, Hujan already joined a group of orangutans in the UK and will hopefully soon be able to start a new group somewhere. Both, his caretaker and he are still in contact: she visits him sometimes. She did amazing work in giving him both, a caring home and the metaphoric wings to fly away. Of course, nobody likes it be separated after a time like that but it's part of the work and success to achieve that.
Hujan will be an important part of conservation breeding. It's not planned to bring him to a forest and no orangutan is free in the wild. Wild populations are under threat and building a back-up population is important to secure their future existence.

I just read in a comment on another video that he lost his family in a fire. I’m so sorry to hear about your loss and my prayers are with you. I hope the guilty parties were prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
Yes but he wasn't there any more, so he knows nothing about it. He left his family, as it is normal for orangutans growing to become an impressive male, months before.

Bin sehr traurig das was passiert ist +das in Australien....bin froh das hujan gut geht bin Riesen Fan von ihm ...hoffe das der Zoo in Krefeld was neues bekommt mit moderne Technik.
Modern war die Technik in Krefeld ja auch schon - gegen diese Himmellaternen ist leider kein Kraut gewachsen, was sie auch so gefährlich macht und weshalb sie schon seit über 10 Jahren verboten sind. In Australien sind ja wohl zu 96% auch menschliche Brandstifter für die Feuer verantwortlich - auch dort gab es für viele Tiere kein Entrinnen. Sehr schlimmer Jahresanfang.

He was an adorable little baby. Would love to see him now! What zoo in Great britain does he live? I will not be watching anymore Hujan videos from the zoo he was born at because I can't take seeing the others who all were killed in the fire. It hurts my heart too much.
The zoo is called Monkey World. He lives in Tuan's Group as far as we know. It' true that his family at Krefeld Zoo was all killed in the fire. Only two chimpanzees survived it. In a few years, Krefeld Zoo will have built a new installation for orangutans which will be great.

I was just wondering will he have I was just wondering why he have a surrogate mother to take care of him when he goes bk in the group??
Someone has to care for him in the meantime, before he returns to the group because it's normal for orangutan mothers to not care for their babies after separation.
Were there any orangutans and other apes who were saved from the fire?
Two chimpanzees were saved from the fire, the baby orangutan Hujan, you can see in this video, was moved to Great Britain months ago.
Did the zoo catch on fire? I hope it didn't! Edit: Nevermind, I just looked it up. I wish I didn't see this. I am heartbroken. I'm so very sorry. I can't imagine how heartbreaking it is for the people who worked with & loved these beautiful souls. I hope they didn't suffer.
I felt the same. Absolutely devastated. Apes are my absolute favourite creatures on earth. It’s even difficult looking at this video, knowing that the primates in the zoo were killed horrifically. I often think of this wonderful caregiver. She and others must have been devastated.

Ja, Hujan lebt noch und bis auf zwei Schimpansen hat - nach aktuellen Kenntnisstand - keiner der übrigen Affen überlebt. 😢
How did a fire start in a zoo with so many animals in it ? How did the fire start. Thats a horrible way for animals caged to die. They have no escape.
There was a fire in the ape facility many years ago. It was caused by an illegal action. People started something like a floating flame for New Year's Eve. Doing this wasn't legal. It came down on the roof if the facility and caused a fire that was horrible. Only two chimpanzees survived. Hujan, the star of the video aboves, also survived - but because he had been moved in UK some time before.

Ja, ist es - und das ist gar nicht schlecht. Man muss eben nur sehr hohe Auflagen erfüllen - das ist wiederum auch sehr gut. Praktisch ist das meistens aber auch nur für Zoologische Gärten möglich.

Dass du dein Beileid bekundest finden wir gut, aber wir möchten zur besseren Verständlichkeit und weil das zu vielen Missverständnissen geführt hat, darauf hinweisen, dass Hujan vom Brand verschon blieb, weil er schon etliche Monate in Großbritannien ist. Leider aber wurde seine ganze Familie im Krefelder Zoo vom Brand getötet. 😢

@@tamaraj4200 No. He is alive and well. He had been moved to Great Britain months before the fire. However, all of the great apes and monkeys except for 2 chimpanzees, were killed in the fire. Hujan's entire family were killed but he knows nothing about it.
It looks me like a Down Syndrome child and I do not know why
we also don't know why to be honest 🙈 maybe because you met a wonderful child with this syndrome and Hujan reminds you of him or her 🤗 people often feel reminded of children or kids when they see baby orangutans 😊
