    Have a great trip!
I'm just a bit jealous 😂 ... Just got a small semi apo but have no tracker so I still have to pack the old mount and tripod ... Fortunately no counterweight since it's so light ... I'll have to see about a battery pack since I just returned from a trip where I had to ask the owner of the establishment to lend me an extension chord (25 meters) and made good use of it ... Messed around with m101, Saturn and Jupiter.
Now it's all resting in my outskirts house in Bortle 5 and cannot wait to see what else I can do with the small scope :)
I keep hearing praise for the Pentax k3 îi as it has a special feature for tracking up to 30 secs (depending on FL of the lens) ... Imagine that, justa camera, coupe of lenses, SD cards batteries and a tripod and you're set :)

Interesting choices - just travelled cross country with the same case and insert dividers as carry-on, along with a RRS full tripod in checked baggage. Unfortunately, no astrophotography, but did bring macro twin flashes and light modifiers. Tough choices were to leave larger lenses at home. Worked great with only one regret: the cooperative Barred Owl perched on a limb beside a hiking trail. Would love to have had a long lens for that one. Short of a travel trailer or RV, tough decisions are a fact of life in traveling. Great video - thanks.

Dew heater bands are a must-have for astrophotography!
I'm sure you have them, I just didn't hear it mentioned and you said to comment if you were missing anything
I completely agree about not bringing a laptop - complicating things with autoguiding and dithering at such short focal lengths is not worth it, compared to the simplicity of basic tracking
Best of luck capturing great photos on the trip! It's always great to get out under dark skies

Another good one! Thanks for showing your travel set up. I have been looking for a good travel case that is customizable, and that Pelican looks to fit the bill perfectly.
Hope you have a great trip, and that your skys are smoke free.

I have the same case and Trek Pack system and almost the same set-up except I shoot with a modified Nikon D-810 with the Red Cat 51. Wow, with Sky-Watcher counterweights, that carry-on must be heavy. My case is heavy as well and I avoid bringing it with me on travels that require flying. But, I am not serious yet with my DSO photography. Maybe someday I will get serious and fly to exotic and dark sky places like you, and get used to carrying this much gear. Oh, I have ZWO auto-guider and scope in my case as well. That added weight to my case. Your filters must be in your carry-on backpack. Safe travels Nico and wishing you clear skies!

I stuff everything in my camera bag as a carry on as well. I usually have to split my stuff between carry-on and personal item if I bring my SkyGuider Pro setup. I have made custom carry cases on the cheap with the off-brand stuff you find at Harbor Freight. Not the best like Pelican, but good for low budget. I even turned one into a portable power supply with some EV cells and it works great. I usually take my laptop so that I can use my 294MC Pro with the EF adapter on my Canon lenses in addition to my Regular camera. It can be a pain to carry the extra stuff, but I often have my laptop for some other reason unless it's a short trip.

I have the Fornax lightrack ii, so i have a 20000ma battery to power it, that double as car jump starter, usb charger, Dew heater in case, qhy pole master, mini 11" laptop. I like to do multirow nightscape pano. So I have the Syrp x2 mini II (with app), or the leofoto 720 pano kit (manual). Typically I have the 24, 50 & 135mm Sony GM lenses on the Sony A7RIII. All I need now is either an astro mod camera (waiting 2022 for an A7RV or A7IV one that suitable to be astro mod) or find a way to adapt/focus the Sony mirrorless lenses to a dedicated astro camera.

Hi I am very new to astrophotography. Packing is very much the same priority as my self for Landscape photography. Unfortunately getting hold of equipment has been very difficult in the UK. I wanted an iOptron Sky Guider Pro with WO Zenithstar 61 II and Guide Scope. Unfortunately the mount has a 4 month delay. I have decided to go for the iOptron CEM26 mount to be delivered in 2 days. I will have to go to dark sites by car and not the motorcycle now. Oh BTW what turntable and music do you use and like having seen them in the background? Thank you for the informative content.

I have a 20.000mah powerbank that can handle a drop, dust and moisture. It also has a solar panel but I don't really think that's gonna be very helpful unless I am stuck in a desert.
Do you use a cable that communicates with the Star Adventurer?
At the end of this month I am traveling to La Palma. I am bringing an R5, Ra, 15-35, 24-70, 70-200 and a Star Adventurer 2 with tripod. Looking into the Samyang 14mm 1.4 as well. I am gonna do astrophotography as well as regular photography.
But I am also bringing my 30cm Dobson with tracking platform and eyepieces. I've booked 60kg luggage. 😬

I got bit last weekend by not thinking about redundancy. I drove to a dark sky sight do an overnight Milky Way session. I had a great location. I had my camera and tracker set up, but went to plug in my intervalometer and realize the plug was damaged and would not work. Naturally I had a backup cable... at home. :-(
I was forced to do short 30-second exposures which is the best my camera can do on its own. Thanks Sony.

Hi Nico. Thanks for another great video.
What I am missing (maybe I simply didn't catch it) is dew heater and power bank. I found out I can't properly work without these. And also backup headlamp plus flashlight.
I realized, you are using bahtinov mask. Does it work for wide angle as well? I mean, for 14-24mm?

Burnett County, Google 'crex meadows' it's a Bortle 3, maybe not the darkest in the state, but pretty good for being just 90 min. from the twin cities

It's actually sad that after all these decades of commercial air travel, nobody even questions the fact that we keep our valuables with us at all times for fear of them getting lost somewhere...

    • @NebulaPhotos
      @NebulaPhotos  3 роки тому

To be fair, I've never lost a bag or had anything stolen from my checked bag, but I've heard enough stories from family and friends that I wouldn't risk anything valuable. Maybe if I was better insured, I wouldn't be so paranoid.

@@NebulaPhotos Me neither, but then again I don't fly all that often. But it just hit me when I saw the video: yeah, we all do that, and nobody even bats an eye at it or questions it. Goes to show how much trust we put in the airport-luggage system.
