Never interfere with the wildlife. He was being fed just fine by Cassie and if he was rejected by the troop, that's the way nature and the world works. He was never meant to survive and you people were never meant to feed him and interfere with the wildlife and the natural order of things. He was rejected for a reason and was always going to die. It's not your job to feed the baby monkeys and interfere with the troop. But you all know this and just did this for views. You should never feed the baby monkeys no matter what. For one you're feeding them out of hierarchical order and for two, if the troop wants it to die it's going to die. Even if it's dying, your job is to record and to never interfere.

Bleeding heart Karens are exactly that, Karen's that should have been ignored. Once the entire troop saw him being fed, there was no need to feed him anymore because in their mind, humans would do it. All these ridiculous commenters saying how Cassie didn't feed him, just sound so ridiculous and uneducated. I would love to know how he survived almost two weeks with no milk (I'm guessing he was approximately two weeks old when this video was made). They'll ignore the fact that he's nursing in hundreds of videos. If he's nursing in hundreds of videos and only lived for a month, that means he nursed multiple times per day. But they'll ignore all that, "Cassie disciplined him, she's evil! she must have starved him too!" they say, all because she made him wait until after Celine had eaten and the title said so.🙄🙄
Both Calvin and Celine were malnourished because they were sharing milk intended for one infant. There's also the fact that Cassie's milk was formulated for a female offspring not a male. This is why Calvin appeared more malnourished than Celine. Male macaque offspring need more fat in their milk and females need more calcium. Calvin was getting more calcium when he needed more fat, which is why he was not growing properly. They read titles intended to evoke an emotional response, believe everything they read and get emotional. Exactly as intended. People like this are what's wrong with the world. These same people also believe everything they see on the television and take it as fact, as opposed to doing their own research.🤦🏽♀🤦🏽♀

Monkeys are wild animals and do not need interference from humans. The monkey population is out of control due to people feeding and "rescuing". Death is a natural thing and survival of the fittest means some have to die, including Calvin. It's not cruel but interfering and making them dependent on humans is. Leave them alone. Watch and not touch. Monkeys are not pets.

You are so right,he is a stupid little monkey, that said the nipple on the bottle is too hard and therefore is not like cassi so he refuses. Another little monkey would have persevered and keep feeding but not him,he is waiting for cassi so we see the result of that, the VO realizes he is a lost cause therefore abandoned him again
I forgot what day we're on but to me this video proves that Casi has been FEEDING him. He is very alert with good strength. If she hadn't been feeding him or feeding him just enough to keep him alive he WOULDN'T be in such great shape

Only reason he cried when with the people was due to being on his back, cuz when they first picked him up he was chillin...he didnt yelp even once until he was laid on his back.. no animal likes that and not having anything to grab onto with his feet and hands.. if they had a towl or small stuffed animal to let him hug onto he probably wouldnt have even yelled out.. once he was off his back he was dojng fine and was happy as could be woth them people..He is the kind of money would SHOULD have been a pet. THAT baby was starving Nd yet he still was trying to survive by making attempts to put anything in his mouth, Calvin NEVER ONCE even tried to such in fruit peels ir leaves or bugs or ANYTHING. he only ever wanted milk. Anytime casi sat him down so he could learn to walk and lesrn to climb and learn to socialize and actually learn to be a wild monkey he would just flop himself around on the ground and scream. And he didnt do it because he was weak, he just was lazy and didnt WANT to do anything, it was GOOD for him to be with chiko sometimes because that was the ONLY TIMES HE EVER actually tried to walk or do anything normal for a monkey. Everytime he was with casi he acted like a stupid disabled thing that could t do anything for himself, but casi KNEW HE COULD do more so she got mad at him when he would act like a spoiled entitled brat! When he refused to let celine nurse in peace and kept trying to steal the nipple from her mouth or when he refused to get down after his turn nursing. So then she pulled him off and she ran a few feet away to make him stay off of her for a few mins, most baby monkeys WANT to get down and go play and explore, but not calvin, he was his own worse enemy. He had no skills and had no intrest in learning them while with casi. But he was NEVER STSRVING TO DEATH! he was bigger then celine for a time then casi noticed that and she started to leave him woth chiko more so her actually baby could nurse and not worry about being beat up on accident while casi faught him off or have him steal her milk turns. But he really is an example of a baby monkey that would hVe been best as a pet because he jad absolutely no interest in doing wild monkey things. He just wanted to nurse and sit around

Calvins real mum, Christy, is a low ranking, very young, first time Mum, that dropped him from the trees as soon as she gave birth. The vo's rushed in and picked him up, scaring his real Mum away. They eventually put him on a wall, next to another mum, who just delivered herself, and alpha of the troop, named Casi. Casi took Calvin in, but was mean, starving him & beating him at first. She eventually came to protect & nurse him at times, but naturally, she is going to care & feed her own baby, Celine, more than Calvin. Calvin has been kidnapped, dropped from trees, tortured, starved & left for dead a bunch of times since birth. He has no idea who his real mum is, or what its like to feel the love, care & nurture from a warm chest or feed from a comforting breast. Its a shame, but he continues to fight through it all & hang on. I really hope he makes it, after all hes been through, he deserves to live. Hes a fighter...

It was real nice of you guys to try and give Calvin milk, but every time I watch you guys with a helpless newborn you’re trying to feed, it drives me up the wall! You make it more difficult then it has to be! Hold on to the newborn and that means holding their arms at their side along with their head, and use your other hand to hold the bottle in their mouth until they either start sucking or for you to at least squeeze the milk out of the bottle a little at a time. It wouldn’t be hard given the size of these newborns. Plus you’ve already handled the newborn (Calvin in this case) in your bare hands, so you can’t be afraid to touch them, and if you don’t want to touch them more then you have to, then use the towels use guys seem to always have on you to wrap the newborn up in, including their arms. This way you have control over the situation and it will make it much easier for you to get that much needed milk into the baby. Thank you again.

You're thinking in terms of human babies. Infant monkeys do not get swaddled to feed or anything else by their mother. You cannot apply human traits to wild animals. That is no different than what these ignorant VOs do in this video and every other one where they're trying to nurse an infant monkey. What they should've done was given it something fuzzy (i.e. blanket, stuffed animal) to hold onto then offer the bottle. But I doubt anything would've worked with Calvin because he was defective from the moment he was born til the moment he died.

It sometimes takes a mother hours before they have the strength and good sense to go back and find their recently birthed babies they left behind. In the case of Calvin the VO's swooped in and grabbed him before his birth mother even had a chance to grab him. Calvin was probably doomed from the moment these genius (sarcasm) VO's picked him up.

He wasn’t hungry. He barely took that bottle. All he wanted to do was cling to Casi and root on every inch of her. And pull the hair on her face. Something was wrong with him. Even with his own mother I don’t think he would have lasted long.
Simple. He is confused. He never been with humans surrounding. Newborns usually cling and drink. They are feeding him in wrong way!
He has no issues and mom never left him. She did followed casj few days. Not all the channels covered that part.
He is weak and malnourished. He needs more milk time to catch up his health. He never nursed peacefully with out beats and bites from casi. May be this is the first time he gets milk with no pushes. He needs love and hug first.

There’s a clip several minutes long of this scene where Calvin holds the bottle between his lips and sucks on it for several minutes. Plus the guy holding the bottle was squeezing it so Calvin was getting a ton of milk out of it. He got plenty to eat. He weighs like a gram so their bellies can hold about 10 drops.

She threw him from a tree the moment she saw him and never went to find him. If she wanted him she would have followed Cassie around relentlessly like every other macaque mom who wants her baby back. She never wanted him and intentionally rejected and abandoned him. He was never meant to survive. Human interference only prolonged his suffering, yet all of you are here cheering the human interference on.🙄🙄

Always fighting for milk, when the opportunity comes your worried about being with casie which doesn't give you nothing anymore. At the end you got what you wanted. Getting kippnap and starving to death.
Also, all these "rescuers" did was transfer more of their human scent onto Calvin in hopes Casi would start and accelerate the rejection process, which is exactly what happened. No rescuer would handle a starving baby monkey without protection gear, knowing they would hand the baby back into the wild to Casi or any foster mother. The risk is high. His own biological mother's instincts had a high probability of rejecting him due to human scent.

Human scents made monkey moms to unrecognized their own. In Calvin’s case too same thing happened. They should have given it to his mom instead of casi knowingly she is abusing this baby for her own offspring survival.

All they did was prolong it's suffering. He still starved to death it just took a lot longer thanks to the occasional couple drops of soy milk.

A primate has a horizontal downward facing spine, it is very difficult for it to be placed floundering on its back..also, with four extensive prehensile limbs it needs to wrap them around something atleast when feeding...people keep assuming that swaddling a baby primate like one would a human baby is going to help but it is problematic for it.

@@leiaitri0444 but that's the point, when it's limbs are wrapped around something it's completely stationery and secure, and I said "placed on it's back" not merely facing upwards. People who care for monkeys professionally will tell you it should be sitting up when feeding like it would be when being fed by the mother, except when it's being carried by her and feeding, in which case the mother is bearing the babies weight rather than babies spine trying to bear and steady it's own weight.

Glad Calvin got a little intervention with milk given by gentle hands. To feel his belly full for the first time in so long was a great gift. He probably couldn't take a lot of the milk at one time because his little stomach had shrunk significantly due to long-term deprivation. It would take a bit for his stomach to stretch out to take in more milk. I'm glad to see him nurtured with tenderness and concern. So sorry to hear of your returning his to Cassie and his death. Some primates don't need to be parents but unfortunately, it is forced on them during the breeding season. Some humans don't need to be parents either. Little ones, whether primates or other animals as well as humans are at the mercy of the parents they are born to. Some are meant to die early, but that doesn't mean they don't deserve a gentle touch before they go.
