Great video, Jules and a lovely PKD collection, some smashing books there for sure. I was lucky enough to expand my PKD collection by my recent visits to Dorset Bob and Maurice's open day, but there's always more out there. Some nerdy info about some of the books in the video: The lovely Ace doubles weren't so good for authors - Ace figured if you only had a half a book, you should only get half the rate! The photo on the back of The Man In The High Castle (Penguin) wasn't PKD, it was his editor Ted White. Dick sent the photo in as a joke! The first Panther of Flow My Tears has "Philip K Dick" in red unlike the reprints which were black. The cover was by Richard Clifton-Dey. Your copy of Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? is indeed the first paperback edition from 1969 (and very desirable). My top 5 favourites: Time Out Of Joint (upon which The Truman Show was largely based, without any credit), The Three Stigmata of Palmer Eldritch, Clans Of The Alphane Moon, Flow My Tears and of course, Ubik. All of these really explore our relationship with reality, indeed, what is the nature of reality? A topic, as you said in the intro, very close to PKD's heart and the subject of most of his books to some degree or another. Enough waffling, I thoroughly enjoyed this video, great to see PKDs out in the wild, as it were. Thank you, Jason.
Dr. Blood Money is my favorite so far. Ubik gets an honorable mention. His collections of short stories are all worth checking out. Of particular note (for those who like obscurity) is his fantasy short story King of the Elves.
I particularly enjoy A Scanner Darkly and Flow My Tears, the Policeman Said. Another honorable mention would be one of his earlier books, Confessions of a Crap Artist.
seem to remember US bookdealers used to sell PKD's signature from cancelled cheques ! highly ironic considering the big values of his books now.........
I love seeing those old PKD books. Three of my faves are not the conventional "best of PKD" books but I really like The Simulacra, Clans of the Alphane Moon and Confessions of a Crap Artist. The 1964 Ace copy of The Simulacra also has a rather cool cover by Ed Emshwiller that I really like.
Great .PKD is one of the authors whose works I grab pronto , have or not . The short story collection....ie The Book of Philip K Dick are well worth the collecting/ read . I have some of " The Best Of ..." Alas none in mint .Counter Clock World is a strange one . But PKD was a bit of a rare avis .Strange I did not see a Blade Runner....with the movie poster jacket .Handful of Darkness ,another collection
Thanks Sylvan, appreciate you listing your favourite titles. Amazingly, I've not got the Bladrunner tie in but it's very common so I shall pick one up..
I was a member of the PKD Society, and I've read just about everything he's ever written. My top favorites are Three Stigmata, Martian Time Slip, Eye in the Sky, and Maze of Death.
A very interesting and enjoyable vid. The only thing I can add is that I recently purchased a very slim paperback of his short story Adjustment Team from a local second-hand bookshop. A print on demand book dated 2013 and it has very boring marbled paper designs on both the front and back cover. Hardly worth mentioning really !
Hi Jules. Intriguing to see all those nice UK copies. All of mine are US editions. In fact you don't see many of the UK books about. I don't know if you have the Underwood Miller PKD biblography. It's a great resource but a bit pricey these days.
got that pb of "Counter Clock World" along with "Twilight Journey" by L P Davies & "Nine by Laumer" by Keith Laumer while on holiday in Blairgowrie around 1970........the newsagent had a whole wall rack of glorious mint SF pbs on display........ah, if you could only go back in time tho !
Howdy Jules. I have a copy of the 3 stigmata paperback which has the same cover as my Dune paperback, Blue cover featuring characters wearing Ku Klux Klan-type hoods, So that illo was a copyright free illo not specifically created for Dune? Why would it be a good idea to feature the same illo on top books by 2 different popular SF authors? Any thoughts?
I have that Penguin edition of Time Out of Joint and had no idea it was part of the numbered series or that there's anything special about it! Mine's in much worse condition but I'm delighted to know more about it now, thank you!
The cover artist on Galactic Pot Healer is Ian Miller.
Ah great stuff, thanks for the information 👍

Indeed my friend, particularly with PKD, a great author to collect 🙂

Thanks so much for the recommendations, just what I was after🙂

Thanks for the recommendations. A Scanner Darkly srems to be on a few people's lists. This might be the next one to try.
Some beautiful covers and condition here. Great collection. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks my friend 🙂

Absolutely, he's really collectible 👍
Great video! And another cool bunch of books that include editions I’d never seen. Kudos!
Great stuff, thanks Bob!

Thanks for the recommendations Brian, I'd love to get some more Ace editions of I can find them.

Thanks, is that one of the more obscure stories maybe, that's now only available as print on demand I wonder🤔
@@JulesBurt Well, the story was made into the 2011 film The Adjustment Bureau so I presume the book was published because of that.
you want to see what i have. i have most .
Nice!
@@JulesBurt been collecting from before blade runner.
Impressive collection. The Panther UBIK cover is one of the best for that title.
It's a great cover, thanks, pleased you enjoyed the walkthrough of the collection.
Great stuff Jules. Some fantastic editions here. A Scanner Darkly is my favourite PKD work.
