Just need to appreciate you were playing piano, singing, holding down the sustain, controlling drum fills, etc all while knowing the video is being recorded.
As for the SR-18, I just got it after selling my beat buddy. I use it as a practice tool and it's extremely flexible for that purpose.

    Hi Jen,
I'm considering the sr18 for some time, and your video is very helpful. Thanks a lot.
I notice that you start the drums for a measure or two before starting playing the piano. Is it only for this demo, or do you do it at your shows as well?
Is it because the sr18 doesn't have a count in functionality (as I understand)?
Is it possible to trigger the sr18 by connecting it to a piano via MIDI so when I play a note/chord on the piano the sr18 will start to play a factory pattern?
    I hope my comment wasn't TLDR 😂
    Thanks.

For me, I let it run a few measure before playing on purpose as I use the machine during my solo piano bar shows. These contracts are often 6 nights per week, 4 hours per night. So letting the drum machine run while I call up lyrics/chart, or change keyboard settings for the next song, is actually saving my voice. It fills the room with sound for several seconds while I set up the next song. So i've achieved two things by letting it run: no dead air - there is an instrument playing - AND giving me precious seconds of time where I'm NOT singing.
Hope this response isn't TLDR (I laughed because I totally read everything): I would use the foot switch to start/stop the machine at the same moment as you play the first notes. You can see the tempo pulsing light even when the machine isn't actually playing, so you can sync with that and start. You can also press "fill" and it will take the first pattern all the way through with fill parameters. With some of the patterns, that will give you the "start" you desire. Hope this helps!

      Hi,
You just gave me a great idea to use the drum machine to avoid silence and to keep my singer his voice a little.
BTW did you consider the sr16?
I am very confused between the two.

Can you trigger a drum fill with a footswitch pedal from the main A user preset and have it automatically go back to the main A user preset after the programmed B user preset drum fill plays, without having to step on the footswitch pedal twice? I'm looking for "simple" for our trio vocalist to run the drum machine, while I'm playing keys and left hand bass, and our guitarist is handling the guitar work and sound mixer. All we need is programmed patches for songs, and a drum fill to use. 😀

@@GeraldWilhelmBradenComposer Not that I know of. The only way to achieve this would be to create and save your own pattern. There are available user banks to make and save your own patterns. I do not have much experience in this aspect.

@@JenPorterRocks Thanks Jen! I am planning on creating new patterns for all of our songs on A, with an added fill pattern on B. Am I correct that if you hold your foot on the footswitch during the fill, it will automatically go back to pattern A? That's all we really need, a main pattern, and a fill pattern.😀
