I love the fact that some of the big ham UA-camrs include Randy in the discussion. I will watch Notarubicon just for the humor oftentimes. Been a fan for years. I am a radio nut and also know that Ham Radio Crash Course is my favorite radio UA-cam channel. Josh HRCC you are a true gift to the amateur radio world. So nice to see us get along in the sandbox.
Probably wouldn't have seen it 10 years ago. Hams have chilled out. It was needed. Comes with the political climate imo. Randy gets it and so do us hams. We all have that one big reason in our back pocket for getting into the radio hobby.
I agree. I watch Randolfo for the dry humor, not to learn the FCC rules or how to properly squirt RF electricities. I actually stumbled across the channel when I was looking at videos of challenging offroad trails like Black Bear, etc. but quickly realized the radio content was fun.
Josh a story of a life or death situation, back in 1987 I was monitoring ch 9 on 11 meters, I picked up a faint signal of a lady in distress she was on I-10 in a vehicle asking for anyone that could hear her to call the police, as for us we thought it was a joke, but you never know so my cuzin tried getting back to her, back in the day we lived in a little town called Paradise in Northern California, we had a Cobra Cam 89 with a D104 antenna was a 5/8 ground plane on a 35' tower.. my cuzin made contact with the lady ,she claimed she had been kidnapped, gave her location, vehicle color and so on.. we took this seriously and made the call to the local authorities, it took a few minutes to convince the dispater that this was a serious situation then she finally made the call.. long story short, they found the car and victim she was ok and they arrested the person responsible for the crime..just had to share this with you.. My cuzin was a ham Gary KE6GNL RIP cuz.. PS I am currently working on my ticket, I also run a GMRS radio WRPR-732 James
Back in my CB days, everyone was running linears. Had a 100W with a preamp in my van. I personally ran 500W into a Moonraker at my house. Lots of CBers ran up to a KW. There was an FCC monitoring station about a mile down SR84 from my place in S FL, and the CBers would park on the shoulder of the road 100 yards from the building and key up, daring the feds to come and get them. To the best of my knowledge, the FCC never went after anyone. But deliberately jamming freqs, especially interfering with EMS or other agencies will definitely incur their wrath.
I have both a GMRS license (for family and GMRS club activities) and my amateur General license. I love Randy’s channel and I watch him all the time. But that doesn’t mean I’m a rule-breaker - I tend to drive the speed limit, and I tend to follow the FCC rules. The reason I follow rules is because we have a theoretical “social contract” to follow agreed-upon rules and standards in order for society to function more smoothly. It’s a personal ethics thing. That said, Randy helps me keep things in perspective. It’s a hobby, and it should be fun. Just don’t do antisocial things like transmit on emergency services frequencies or jam repeaters, and we can all continue to play radio nicely together.
I wanna like ham. So i bought a radio not knowing anything about it. I like my radio,...i like learning,....so im happy. Everything's working as it should. 73
We have an amazing GMRS repeater network here in Michigan called the MI8 Network. It mainly covers the I75 corridor and links a very good portion of the state. I know I can't speak for everyone however everyone that I have heard on the network loves it as well. It certainly not your average repeater network either. The vast majority of the equipment is repurposed from the emergency communications services.
I agree that the FCC typically will not jump on you for using a radio and breaking the rules, but it really would depend on what you were doing. For example, you start disrupting public services or Air communications, and you are likely going to get a letter or visit pretty quick. So I appreciate what Randolfo is saying as long as the person watching understands the consequences of their actions. Some are next to no consequences, and there are some big consequences.
I watch Randy’s channel and have been a dabbler for many years in radios. Though I’ve studied the material, I never took the test. Glad to find your channel and add it to my regular watching list.
This guy is hilarious to watch. I wish he would quietly get Tech, General & Extra in one sitting, then he could make the sad hams even more angry. I'm newly licensed this month to General. I've had a couple of sad hams critical of my posts in "beginner ham" FB groups. I didn't take it seriously. I deal with actual crazies in my day job. A sad ham is a piece of cake.
very good show. Randy is always fun. radio is great fun . I support it all. for my local and travel camping trips we use MURS and FRS a lot. short range with in the camp cite and a few places no cell phone coverage. hardy any one on MURS . some Walmart's use MURS others use FRS but only 1 channel. last camping trip worked most bands . HAM as POTA . even a bunch of GMRS and some MURS and the CB skip from NY to England was fun. all on battery and solar. 73's
46:36 The thing with enforcement against pirate radio is mostly due to a congressional mandate (specifically the PIRATE Act, codified Jan. 24, 2020) requiring the FCC to do evaluations, and then enforcement sweeps in the top 5 major city level markets for broadcast piracy.
40:55 As far as channel skip while scanning goes on GMRS. It depends on the radio, but it seems like a fairly ubiquitous feature for GMRS. It's even on my $30ish GM-30.
As Randy has pointed out, most of the FCC investigations has to do with interference with proper transmissions. Blocking repeaters. Interfering with with TVs. Etc. None of the examples have jail time. As far as ham radio and licensing, Unlicensed operators will be (properly) shunned. That doesn't include emergency traffic.
I recently told a guy who shunned me for pursuing my tech and general, "if you aren't legit, the guys who can teach you all the good stuff won't mess with you." I don't care either way about people using radio without licenses, but I do care that they know what they're doing and don't disrupt. That might require networking to learn....harder to do underground.
as a kid we used to visit salton sea, almost every summer..... the jetty at niland, all the way up 86 and 111, and even bombay beach! WT heck were those nasty fish that you could catch about 20 per hour? Black people LOVED em!
...the things I remember most; (but definitely not the only thing); about HRCC; is the antenna tests. I have watched those several times. They caused me to spend money I otherwise wouldn't have.
Randy, please do not change your music. It’s part of the charm of your channel. I visited SBD1 Amazon a couple years ago and heard both your repeater and also “Radio Tijuana.”
The vans could sense the LO in the tv making RF noise. That's how they were able to track down unlicensed operation of TVs. The same way that RADAR detectors ae able to be found in cars wher such things are illegal. My uncle got nailed once that way!
The tv detection vans where a thing in Germany in the 80's as well - had to do with Taxes as the German broadcasters where limited as to when they could show commercials. Doppler Radio Detection Equipment does exist - involves 5 radios, several GPS units, a micro computer, and a cellular or Mesh interface link - box looks like a Porcupine - may also have a solar cell and charge controller unit if placed on the top of a skyscraper - don't interfere with EMS - We Will Find You, use a Baofeng on the wrong frequency - Buy you a Beer - ?
I now wished before i got my tech license, i would have gotten my GMRS license first. I just think Amateur Radio shouldnt be held to the highest standard or sad hams ruin it for new hams. I definitely plan on get a GMRS license, and still go for the General and learn CW. Definitely a goal of mine, to be able to run CB, GMRS HF, and UHF/VHF daily.
It's not a movie/TV show yet. But John Ringo's Black Tide Rising novels definitely include amateur radio. Jody Lynn Nye even had a character in one of the anthologies who was a ham. The main series has four novels ("Under a Graveyard Sky", "To Sail a Darkling Sea", "Islands of Rage and Hope", and "Strands of Sorrow") There's also, currently, four anthologies and two sets of two book from other authors with more forthcoming (I know of at least three other authors that are writing novels in the universe).
Got my GMRS in April 2021. Watched Randy which got me interested in Ham. Memorized all the correct answers and in one test seating got my general in May 2022. Later got Extra in Oct 2022. Become a VE a month later to grade tests of very seasoned hams going for their extra.
I do question your analysis of the “amplification of a message” , I would like to see how that would apply to the Muslim call to prayer, I’d venture to guess there’s more than a few people who don’t want to listen to that that may live nearby… I guess I’d have to see the the case law….
Hey Josh! You and I have known each other for years now (almost as long as I've been on UA-cam). I recently have seen some info on GMRS, and after doing some searching on the Web yesterday morning, I ran across @NotaRubicon's YT channel. Something about his no-nonsense presentation style and his sense of humor got to me - he had me programming my UV-5R+ Plus (which I bought at the end of 2020) to receive and scan the GMRS channels in no time! I also finally stuck a foot in the water and got my GMRS license! After doing all this, something told me to check your channel to see if you knew this guy, and I found this live stream, which totally seals the deal. You both are awesome, kudos for what you do. And don't worry, I'll soon be getting a "legal" radio to explore the hobby with further along.
I have never run into a "sad ham" on CW. And judging by all the fancy keys I see in pictures of peoples shacks on qrz , almost everyone is a good CW opp. 73
Keys have a similar effect to equipment in Role Playing Games. +5 Fist, -2 Charisma, ".1% Chance to drop a dit or dah with each character sent. U R 4NN".
I operate somewhere between 12-15 WPM; I can't imagine how long it would take me to key out a stream of insults and profanity at someone. Also, I don't see it carrying the same emotional impact that yelling would. I haven't figured out how to key in ALL CAPS.
I've never met a sad ham in real life. I think they are a YT thing. Or possibly they are just liberals making everyone's life miserable. Liberals like to control everything and tell people what to do.
Just so you know, the legal phenomenon that you are talking about at 32:42 (spouting nonsense from a PA at 2:00am or shouting "FIRE!" in a crowded movie house) is known as "time, place, and manner" restrictions -- new Ham Tech, GMRS and CB operator, future political science professor
53:00 Seemed that randy learned a bit more about the ham licensing at that point. Hope he changes his mind a bit and learns some more in regards to Ham. He seems like a cool guy but it seems his attitude on ham is a bit juvenile.
The frequency ranges are definitely in the exams. It lets you know where you wont be interfering. If you end up on an unlocked hf radio...and know what kind of antenna you need to actually make it transmit with good swr(also addressed through testing knowledge) ...because its not plug and play, you could certainly find yourself getting a visit from the military. I wonder what would happen if i transmit over the air force voice comms to their long distance flights? I definitely dont care if people are operating on gmrs sans license and to a degree like randy said...to their buddy on hf, if they know how to even do it.... ive got buddies that do that and i will play along and let them test their radio with me to make sure it works, but they had to have me tell them what they even need to make their radio work. Theres quite a steep learning curve to hf transmissions. Its unlikely a person unfamiliar to hf radio...could just hop on with no knowledge and actually make the radio work effectively enough to even cause an issue.
Interesting question. I'm leaning towards no, BUT... I have listened to a couple licensed GMRS guys on a repeater as they called out for other men to answer their requests for radio checks. They didn't say anything sad GNRS-ish, but they sounded like HAMers, so I suspect the potential for sadness is there.
Repeater jammers... Deserve the full wrath of OPs and the FCC ! Most else is not worth fooling with. We spend more time dealing with RFI causing us issues like the power line issue I currently have that's wiping out 20m. The Utility co. has been very responsive!
While NOT necessary to be able to operate the radio; the reason I got the radios in the first place was to be able to talk with OTHER people. And if those OTHER people won't talk with you unless you have a license; and if you don't have a group of friends that you want to communicate with; then the radio is pretty much a brick!
In the UK the TV license vans would tune into the LO (local oscillator) frequency and detect if a TV was in use in a residence that was on the ‘not licensed’ list. Pretty straightforward stuff. This method of receiver detection was developed by Peter Wright of the MI5. He wrote a book called Spy Catcher detailing how they used the technique to determine if the ‘Russians’ were in close proximity and eavesdropping on their communications when they were following persons of interest. As an aside Japan operates a networked detection and reporting system used to monitor band use. We have a lot of illegal 10/11m and 70cm usage by truck drivers and there are occasional road side police stops where the Japanese equivalent of the FCC is there with test gear to record data and confiscate equipment.
I can’t stand this guy and judging by his paranoid comments, he’s doing a negative for radio. He’s got literally insane preppers in his comments who think getting a lisense puts you on a watch list and everyone unlicensed should transit on repeaters without any decorum and ignore or insult those who are licensed who complain because they are “sad hams” and the fcc doesn’t care. Platforming him is a mistake One of his disinformation victims showed up at a club event calling everything not a beofung a waste of money (even hf gear) and smug about not being a government stooge.
I had a guy tell me this morning on 60 meters channel 4 that I must have been new to 60 meters because he had been on there for over 30 years and never heard me on there! 🤣 73, KF0BBU
Official observers LOL I got a letter... your signal is overloading my radio, Use less power... guy was on 144.200 and only 10 miles from me. He never operates, just sends stupid letters to hams... I run 1kw on 2m SSB and he had his noise blanker on and it was pulsing his receiver, COMMON issue in older radios. I ignored him, he sent 3 more letters... and complained to the FCC. FCC called me, asked what power I ran, and what antenna... 1kw to four 12 element beams, well within legal limits. I do not use compression, I like clean audio. FCC told the whiner to knock it off LOL If the FCC acted 14.313 would be silent... Th AR-15 karens... if you don't have 20 pounds of tactical garbage hanging off your AR it is junk... and cheap... they slam mine because f the slick side upper with no forward assist... that upper shaved off weight! When prairie dog hunting I carry that thing for 10 hours a day, ounces count! With scope it is just over 7 pounds! And VERY accurate because the barrel and BCG and upper were all matched and machined to be in as perfect alignment as possible... I can put 4 of my hand loads into one ragged hole at 100 yards then heat makes the pattern open up.
I for one love the vids both of you put out. And the OCD rearranging of thins on videos and drawn out speech pauses just to trigger the people who will combine that the video is somehow wasting their time even though THEY clicked on it and THEY can just as easily stop watching lol 😂
@@MoseUA-cam that would be because the ATF infringes on constitutionally protected rights. Do tell me where in the constitution the use of wireless technology is protected.
@TheNotaRubicon is awesome! I enjoy his sarcasm. I started out in GMRS, watching Randy’s UA-cam channel. I later got a Technician’s license. I enjoy using both radio services. As you guys related, there are Sad Hams in every hobby. For those who can’t seem to crack the code… Randy has a unique style as an informational entertainer. To me, his mantra is simple: Don’t be a d*ck he*d… Enjoy life without taking it too seriously. For all those “other people” with fire and venom in their fingertips as they type away in the comments section… In Texas, we have a saying… Bless your heart! 😂😂😂
@@TheNotaRubicon You tried to push your point that the ham test was useless because you thought that those questions were not on the test. Josh corrected you because what you said was wrong.
I lived in England for 40 years prior to moving to the USA. The Home office in England did use detector vans that were able to detect unlicensed use of televisions. They were able to receive the local oscillator on the TV so they could tell the channel being watched, plus they could detect the colour reference also. When I worked for the Post Office before it became BT they had detector vans. I actually had a look inside one, and it had beam antennas on the roof and spectrum analyzer inside, so I know for a fact they existed and would patrol roads to find unlicensed TV'S. It's not a joke. I imagine today they just check data files to just look who hasn't paid their license fee.
In the US, government regulations are laws in the same way a ruling by a judge is law. The FCC rules are just as much law as OSHA regulations they just aren't enforced.
Josh summed it up perfect on why you need to get a license, so you know where you can be so you don't cause others harm. I am sure no one wants to interfere with Police, EMS and Fire, but regardless of your intentions, if you do, you can cause loss of life.
@@Deuces0810 I don't think Randy is against getting a license, he just points out that nothing happens if you don't. On GMRS, I would agree it's no big deal, but if you get on 2m around the 155's in my area, that is where you can step on police and fire. They are not encrypted digital in many places still, they don't have the budget to convert. You need to know what you are doing and getting your license does that, in theory.
@@blairsmith201 eh. The way he was talking about “just talking to your friend on a random frequency on 2m, what’s the problem with that?” Is mainly what makes me think he is. He never says he outright but he definitely doesn’t see a point. He explains how he’s completely willing to use 2m without a license and tells people about it.
@@terrygs28 You would have had to learn some things by memorizing the answers. At least now you know what you don't know. As you go through your amateur radio career, you'll become proficient. . . I’m for people becoming licensed any way that works for them. The real learning come when you’re on the air. Good luck, I hope to work you on the air!
This was a great show and interview. When i first saw one of Randy's shows it was irritating, but over time he grows on you yet the information he provides is SOLID. 73
Sorry Josh I am just not interested in listening to another person in society who thinks the rules dont apply to them. I like learning about other comms tools such as GMRS. I have learned, most of what I know about ham radio by watching your videos. I love your videos and content and I will be a subscriber till I die!
I have never seen Randy encouraging illegal use of radios in his videos. Sure the presentation might not be everyone's cup of tea, but I find them informative and entertaining. Yes the FCC is not on top of enforcing two way radio communication. I personally know people who have been using the UV-5R and similar radios on FRS/GMRS and MURS frequencies for paintball and airsoft events for the last 5 or 6 years without the FCC getting involved. I completely understand the desire to get more people involved with ham radio, however if it won't suit their communication needs they would be wasting their time and money getting licensed and geared up to use ham radio. Ham radio is great for someone who wants to have two way radio communication as a hobby for sure. However if someone wants to be able to talk to family and friends when out engaging in outdoor activities such as offroading, camping, hiking, hunting etc. then GMRS would be a great option. My deer camp group plans to get set up to use GMRS while up at the cabin since cellular service is getting spotty in the area we hunt. Most of them will probably only use radio communication for deer camp activities. One guy is thinking about getting his ham license as well, but he is on the road a lot with his job and 90% of the time he flies to the job and uses a rental car to go back and forth between the hotel and the work site. He stated he might look in to more once he able to get off the road.
It sounds like they are plagued with bureaucracy And I'm not letting some dungeons and dragons player fine me for anything If any of my club brothers ever found out they pull my patch
@@HamRadioCrashCourse I don't know what to tell you Josh. These are the people who watch Randy. This is the audience he cultivates. Like they say, If you lie down with dogs, you get up with fleas. I really don't get why you associate with him. You're gonna get more and more of these people so long as you keep it up and eventually people like me are just gonna stop coming back like I already did with Randy. He's toxic and toxic people attract other toxic people. If you don't want this toxic crap in your channel comments, you need to stop promoting people who intentionally attract it. I'm saying this as someone who loves your content. I'm not trying to be mean. I'm trying to warn you of what's going on.
I'm still stuck back way back at the Dungeons and Dragons player. What are you talking about? Is the FCC the the Dungeon and Dragons player? Why would they fine you? Why if you do nothing wrong are you paranoid about being fined? What club are you talking about? Pull your patch? What patch? Ham Radio doesn't have patches. None of this is adding up here. Can you maybe re-write what you sent so I can understand?
I just want Randy to get his ham license so I can watch him do more ham specific content. I understand his reasoning for not wanting to do it, and that reasoning is exactly why I suggest most of my friends and family just get their GMRS license. Selfishly though, I want to watch him do ham specific content because I like his style and I think he'd bring a unique perspective to it
Part of the problem also is that the feds reduce the fines as well sometimes. They have gone after a few people, and that's good! But then drop the amount because the person claims they can't pay the full amount.
I like Randy's videos, his sarcasm and his hatred of sad hams. I did not know he was studying to be a ham and was a victim. Now, it all makes sense. I have been attacked a few times locally and online... also nearly left ham radio myself. The only thing I dont like on Randy's channel is the political easter eggs as you mentioned. I even have a few of his shirts, but I also like to relply back on his videos about those easter eggs etc. No one wins in political discussions on the air or on online, especially if it's not a political channel etc. I have already stopped financially supporting a number of ham radio channels, specifically due to the political easter eggs and random smart arse comments about political sides or dog whistles etc. If i want politics, ill play a politics channel. I simply have stopped supporting and watching atleast three channels because of their random political opinions, joke or stab. Its not my place to say what hamtubers put on their videos but im sure, im not the only one who had stopped supporting and/or watching because of that. Anyones video having a go at sad hams does not bother me, nor the sarcasm, I find that funny, even as being a ham. It was good to see a deep dive conversation with Randy, I felt that he hasnt had much of a chance to speak much in the past about other live streams with him as a guest. 🍻🤠🇦🇺⁷³
I was on 10 meters the other day and got admonished by a Canadian sad ham (or would that be Canadian bacon) because I used a phonetic word for one of the characters in my call sign that is not “internationally approved”. I have been a ham for over 30 years and still enjoy 11 meters more because of sad hams.
"Part of an exclusive club?" To make a statement like that shows you really do not understand Ham Radio or radio in general. I never saw being licensed as a club of any kind, I always saw it as a level I could aspired to and get to where I would have the knowledge to operate expensive equipment correctly and participate in this great ability to hear the world and then reach out to them and make a contact and ask a question or answer one. To have access to so many people all over the world that could enrich my understanding of how people are different while still being the same just to start.
So Randy is saying that he was slapped down online for asking questions from licensed Amateurs and as a victum he is fighting back. Is my synopsis correct? He speaks for all the victums of mean Hams I suppose.
He’s extremely butthurt over a single negative experience. So much that he assumes everyone is like that and it’s the entire ham community’s fault. He’s an idiot
I watched a few of Randy's videos to see if he was actually advocating that people flaut the rules, and of course he's basically very careful about it. He's correct about the reality of enforcement. But his "sad ham" term has gotten picked up as a general insult now for anyone who talks about the rules, and this is extremely toxic. Sure, use it for someone who's spouting nonsense about baofeng fines... but there really are rules, this is a hobby where we care about them, and not every ham you meet who disagrees with you about something is a "sad ham". I think the message could be conveyed without the inflammatory and juvenile attitude, and it would be better discussion.
That's really up to you. If I newer or uninformed ham spouts up with "Sad Ham" at the drop of a hat, that's likely not someone that is worth your time. If this is a hypothetical argument on the internet with a troll. That is definitely not worth your time.
@@HamRadioCrashCourse I'm a moderator of an amateur radio community on a social media site, and it's been frustrating to see the effects. When you're trying to create a positive community, people running a drive by tossing out "sad ham" for situations that really aren't what Randy is talking about aren't helpful.
No, that's precisely where the term should be used. The grumpy, sad old hams that ONLY spew RULE____ RULE____ STATES CLEARLY..... We all started out knowing nothing. The way to invite someone in and encourage them to join a hobby isn't by telling them how wrong they are while acting superior because you know some VERY arbitrary rules. I was almost chased out of the hobby by all the pathetic, sad hams telling me I couldn't program GMRS freqs into the same radio as my 2m ham band ones or that I needed an AMERICAN HT, not that china crap. It's not surgery, it's not biological weapons, it's a hobby. Half the NASCAR rule book was written by guys bending the rules to their advantage. Human nature won't change.
I agree with Randy! It is asinine to have to study for, and take; a100% USELESS test! I say that from the point of someone who HAS their Technician license. The studying and test has helped me ZERO in my radio experience. Immersing myself in GMRS; and watching and absorbing NotaRubicon and HRCC has been way more beneficial to my enjoyment of the hobby. Not to mention getting into GMRS before I went for my ham license helped me with my ham endeavors more than the study materials for Amateur Radio.
I don't know; I was editorializing. The 'USELESS' descriptor is from my own personal experience. I should have worded my comment a bit more accurately. @@HamRadioCrashCourse
Because; like I said; I studied for the test; passed the test; got my license; and can't remember using any of it in my radio activities. USING GMRS radios gave me more insight than the ham studying. Maybe I would have gotten something out of it if I hadn't had ANY previous radio experience; but I use NOTHING from my involvement in ham licensing in my daily use of the radios. @@HamRadioCrashCourse

Look back several years to get the full scope of Randy's personality. You can see the current persona develop after the Sad Hams started in on him. They really did him a favor, because he had a puny 4x4 channel (with VERY EXCELLENT production value), but with limited engagement. Now he has the number ONE ham channel. Oh, er uh...tie for the number one ham channel 😏

Josh a story of a life or death situation, back in 1987 I was monitoring ch 9 on 11 meters, I picked up a faint signal of a lady in distress she was on I-10 in a vehicle asking for anyone that could hear her to call the police, as for us we thought it was a joke, but you never know so my cuzin tried getting back to her, back in the day we lived in a little town called Paradise in Northern California, we had a Cobra Cam 89 with a D104

You both are the reason I got my GMRS and Ham Technician licenses. I go April 20th for my General.
I wish you a perfect score on your General! I plan to go for Technician soon.
Great stream! Thanks for this one ☝️
The BBC used to pick up on the IF frequency, but as far as I know, the BBC no longer enforces operation of any receiver. Ask Ringway Manchester .
Good stuff guys
Y’all two are the only radio channels anyone needs! Love NotARubicon
The only gmrs coordination that I know of is in the area I’m in. We have to coordinate with Greenbank Wv. In the national radio, quiet zone.
Stop being a whiny cvnt. If you want to talk about sad maybe look in the mirror?
very good show.
That is an interesting point I wasn't aware of, thank you.
Yep. Fallow the money! Broadcast means big $$ for big companies. The Feds want in on the game!
I recently told a guy who shunned me for pursuing my tech and general, "if you aren't legit, the guys who can teach you all the good stuff won't mess with you."
I don't care either way about people using radio without licenses, but I do care that they know what they're doing and don't disrupt. That might require networking to learn....harder to do underground.
I love Randy. The Farsometer 2000 helps me figure out mygigglehurts (MHz)
as a kid we used to visit salton sea, almost every summer..... the jetty at niland, all the way up 86 and 111, and even bombay beach! WT heck were those nasty fish that you could catch about 20 per hour? Black people LOVED em!
My two favs!!! Yall both make me laugh especially Randy! Totally get the humor and I’m a ham and gmrs😂😂😂😂
...the things I remember most; (but definitely not the only thing); about HRCC; is the antenna tests. I have watched those several times. They caused me to spend money I otherwise wouldn't have.
Better to be thought a fool than open your mouth and remove all doubt.
"make 1984 fiction again" nice shirt.
Ham radio has the most privileges. It’s held to a high regard because of the responsibilities.
I just wished sad hams wouldn't ruin it for everyone@@HamRadioCrashCourse
Is it frowned upon to “eavesdrop” on GMRS/HAM?
Not at all.
Nope... You can...
What is this "business license" and using encryption you speak of? That piqued my interest.
You can get an FCC business license that lets you use encrypted radios. They will not interoperate with amateur or GMRS frequencies.

U R 4NN".
I’ve seen someone on CW call another operator a LID on the DX cluster…
Business band has frequencies around 10m. Unfortunately they don't have anything that can do NVIS.
I LOVE Randolphos videos! He has a dry sarcastic sense of humor that even I mistook at first! Joke 'em if the cant take a f^^^!
Are there not any Sad GMRS users?
So get a license. 🤷🏼♀️
@@HamRadioCrashCourseI've had my license for over a year.
This is America
Zane,
The topic of British TV detector vans was mentioned in the interview.
This is not America, this is the internet.

Don't forget that MURS RADIO IS LICENSE FREE ALSO, not just CB radio or FRS radio.
Randy doesn't even know that questions like what is the 2m freq range is on the test, lol.
Why would I?
You seem to have missed the entire point of everything we were talking about .
What a fun show! Two thumbs up!
In the US, government regulations are laws in the same way a ruling by a judge is law. The FCC rules are just as much law as OSHA regulations they just aren't enforced.
Josh summed it up perfect on why you need to get a license, so you know where you can be so you don't cause others harm. I am sure no one wants to interfere with Police, EMS and Fire, but regardless of your intentions, if you do, you can cause loss of life.
yeah. Dont know why randy is so against it lol
Randy is a global legend
Sounds like notaubicon has a chip on his shoulder for having given up trying to get a license
Just to be clear, I find most of his videos calm informative good fun and no he isn’t pushing people to break the rules

To make a statement like that shows you really do not understand… sarcasm. Bless your heart!
So Randy is saying that he was slapped down online for asking questions from licensed Amateurs and as a victum he is fighting back. Is my synopsis correct? He speaks for all the victums of mean Hams I suppose.

No, that's precisely where the term should be used. The grumpy, sad old hams that ONLY spew RULE____ RULE____ STATES CLEARLY.....
