alrighty, i'm gonna share some info :3
moss already knows these bc i'm friends with them hhahahah >:D
but i wanted to share these
1. I HELPED WITH THE MOOMIN FINLAND OF MICKEY MOUSE QUESTION! nothing special here but i just want some credit /j /hj
2. the moomin moominamma key game is boring
3. in the Tahmatassu hiding game, "Muumit Piilosilla", Tahmatassu also changes place, so you maybe won't find him where the video maker did. How do i know this? I can read the finnish article showed on screen. Also Tahmatassu is a boy, as seen in the comic strip shown, "nuori mies" means "young man".
Tahmatassu's we're the ones that abused the hell out of the Hemulen aunt that invaded young moominpappa's ship. they appear a few times, and they're just these little cute otter-like thingies. like kids. Tahmatassu pronounced Tuh-ma-tuss-oo.
4. this one i don't wanna type again so please have the messages i sent to moss:
_oh so lemme explain the "mysterious cries of"_
_did you tuck it through translate?_
_if you did, then it's finnish grammar's fault_
_Muumit ja salaperäiset huudot =_
_Moomins and the mysterious cries_
_but if you put a word between the finnish thing, f.ex. Muumit ja Nipsun salaperäiset huudot_
_then it would be moomins and the mysterious cries of Sniff_
_so translate thought finnish wanted someone to cry and put the "of"_
yeah just felt like i needed to share these lil things. have a nice day!
thank you elsa!! :)
@@mosskiwi :3
Fun fact that only Finns appreciate about the board game is that the style is actually inspired (more like a straight copy) of a Finnish hit classic board game called "Afrikan tähti" or in english" Great Star of Africa".
@@BLVCKSCORP Wait, that kinda sounds like fun...
@@octogonSmuggler It is, in my opinion :D
you'll be thrilled to know that one of the newest games (based on the 2019 show) is *also* a point-and-click game! (hidden object game)
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
From what I could tell the second game's title translates to something like "Children's English Test: Moomin and English: The Birthday Gift". So it is indeed an English learning game.
I played a few Moomin games growing up, and always got scared of a point and click because The Groke would appear for like 3 seconds-
omg same
yess!! he sounded really scary
Which game was that?
There is also unofficial Moomin game called Mörköpeli (eng. The Groke Game). In the game, you play with Sniff, who is suppose to find King's Ruby, from the dark, cold, wintery forest, and you suppose return to the starting place with the Ruby. And also The Groke is chasing you.
well THATS NOT HORRIFYING
@@mosskiwi It's basically copy of Slender Man games.
@@mosskiwi scariest game i ever played
@@mosskiwi it is the greatest moomin game ever created too bad copyright got to the game and they cant use moomin characters anymore but if you know where to look you can find the version 2.2 wich is the one whit the moomin characters and music
@@BananaSlayer666then what happened to it after the groke version
5:33 see, this is why I kin Moomin. There's an entire game of him getting sidetracked and failing his one goal 😂
He fr just went to vons to get those roses and got everything else in the world along the way
kind of a mood though💀
I love how you can hear Moss's descent into point and click madness as the video goes on 😭
it was a lot .... 😭
I'm guessing the reason why there are so many Moomin point-and-clicks is that it's hard to think of many other gaming genres the series would fit into
Also, point-and-click adventures are infamous to be (comparatively) easier to make than a lot of video game genres.
Sticky paw(?) Is known in English translations as nibbling and he's a he. He was a boy scout with Moomin in one of the comics.
2:57 i never heard anyone this confused with the concept of kinder eggs lol
3:28 Good to note that Tove was writing in Swedish! She also did audio book versions in swedish. (I've listen to a few and it's so comfy.)
The core spoken language of the Moomins is therefore Finn-Swedish, which is like a swedish dialect but I believe Finn-Swedes (as Tove was) as a people is a whole own thing too but that's language aside.
And I *think* most live action productions of moomin in the past was made in sweden too.
Just wanted to say that as a person from Finland and who still lives in Finland. That if you ever need a more accurate translation of something in finnish or Swedish i would be more than happy to help. So if you need any translation help just send me a message. I have both my Discord and gmail listed on my channel. Also really enjoying the content. I didn't think there really was anyone talking about the moomins outside of Finland.
odd question, what's the best time of year to visit finland? It's a dream of mine to visit
@@itslapisnotbob8368 it kind of depends on what you want to see. If you want to see some beautifull snowy sights i would say you should visit in january or february. If you want to see some beautifull sommer sights. You know lush forrests and beautifull lakes you should visit in the sommer months so from late May to early August
@@itslapisnotbob8368 If you ever visit Finland it is a obligation to try the chocolate so don't miss out on that

WOAH that snufkin game looks absolutely dope, I'm hype
so Suuri Muumijuhla (The Grand Moomin Party) is basically five nights at freddy's: moomin edition?
Yeah Pretty Much
Well the timing on this couldn't be better! Yesterday I learned about the new Snufkin game coming out next year (which looks AMAZING), and at first I thought "Is this the first time Moomin has been adapted into a video game?" but then I thought "No, that couldn't be. The series has been around for ages, there must've been other Moomin games before this." And then today I open up UA-cam and find this in my recommendations! The algorithm works! (Hah hah no it doesn't)
Tove Jansson invented the computer to program the first Moomin game. But she destroyed it when she reasoned that it would lead to childhood obesity. It took over 9 000 computer scientist to match her genius.
What!? 9000!? There's no way that can be right! Can it!?
Jeg kunne bare ikke la være, jeg måtte bruke Dragon Ball Z-referansen. 😂
Jeg forstaar Norsk, men ikke god.@@OleAlexanderBrunaes
Yoo I can probably help understanding those Finnish games, I played them as a kid
"Muumit piilosilla" translates to "Moomins Playing Hide-and-Seek". "Piilosilla" is derived from "piilonen" which in turn comes from the word "piilo", meaning "hiding place". Basically "piilosilla" would directly translate to "at the little hiding places".
"Moomins hiding" would be "Muumit piilossa" in English so I get why the auto translator was confused
13:11 I remember playing this game as child on the DS!! It was in norwegian tho.
I remember there were a lot of mini games and I didnt understand most of it. But there was one minigame that I played all the time wich was fixing a suar system or something like that. Connecting all the pipes so that water can run through. And also I got so much nostalgia from the last photo of the ghost. cuz I remember that I didnt know what I was doing but I loved it anyways
Jeg hadde også det spillet! Forstod også lite (var en rævva gamer som liten, er fortsatt det heh) Husker jeg syntes spøkelset med cd-ene var creepy 🙈
11:54
Why did they make moomins look like a golden films cartoon😭
Its like a disney sequel
Phoenix Games level
I have so much more
I had ''The grand Moominparty'' as a kid OMG such a nostalgiatrip!
The best part of the Hat of the Hopgoblin game for me as a native Finn always was the Hattifatteners Island minigame in which the player has to paint the sky with magic wands so Hattifatteners would not strike Moominpappa and Little My, the musics of that minigame were my first experience of EDM hahaha.
This really sparked my realization that The Moomins are literally just the Swedish version of The Berenstain Bears for Amercians, nice
oh my god... youre right....
Finnish you mean.
about moomins having cars, there are these moomin mini books and in one of them they actually do have a car :D
*_you are the most underrated youtuber that exists._*
10:42 mooominmama’s movement here, looking like she’s tryna walk while tripping over her apron, really took me out lmao
The board game is actually pretty much just a rebranded version of one of the most famous Finnish board games called "African Tähti" or "Star of Africa" is a game pretty much with the same mechanics but you are just travelling Africa instead of Moomin Valley trying to find the largest rough diamond ever found. That diamond named Cullinan or "Great Star of Africa" is now part of the British Crown Jewels after it was cut. But I digress... 😅
This is why I think that the 1st release date of 1950 is probably an error, because the Star of Africa was first published in 1951. And all I could find about the publication date of the Moomin game is that it was published in the 50s but no specific year
I had Moomin and the Magician's Hat! One of my favourite games from my childhood, it was very lovely
I was literally about to comment on the fact that you missed the Japanese Moomins DS game, but I am excited to see when that'll be covered. I bought a copy recently and want to try to play it and the Japanese version of Moomin's Tale at some point when I've learned more Japanese. Both of those seem like much more interesting games than the majority of the point and click ones. Speaking of I learned of a few I didn't get to see before thanks to you. Kinda wishing there was an English version of that board game though.
Oh also I am positive you've probably figured it out by now but that Japanese game with English was on a Sega system meant for young kids to learn educational things in Japan.
saw a old reddit post from 9 year ago with someone saying that for some reason they are scared of the moomins
I watched a trailer for the new Snufkin games and that apparently was enough to get this video in my reccomendation. Not complaining tho, was a fun video to watch.
The 2000s game "Winter in moominvalley" was the only game I played and it's a point and clicker plus mini games?? And it has songs?!?! One where My is singing for them all to wake up which I for the past like 17 years have been singing among my family. My sings and you wake up more and more of the family and by that unlocks more things to do. It's great. Sweden created the best PC games during the early 2000s for sure, for like every swedish child book franchise.
It's a Finnish game developed by a Finnish company. The Moomins are not a Swedish franchise either, as you know. Swedish-speaking Finns are also Finns, and many of them would be insulted to hear you insinuate otherwise
i think i got a youtube ad for the snufkin's game and i literally started crying, it's so pretty, the artstyle it's so pretty
Mielenkiintoista sisältöä, tykkään tästä suomalaisena. Nostalgista nämä pelit minulle.
Interesting content, I like this as a finnish person. These games are nostalgic for me. :)
10:25 omggggg, i had that one as a babyyyyy. oh the memories you have unlocked from my childhood, i loved that game so much as a tiny lil 5 year old.
thank you for unlocking really pleasant memories from when i was younger, i feel so happy and fuzzy inside from nostalgia.
just wanted to say that I appreciate the usage of paper mario music. I see you're a person of culture lol thanks for your content
I wanna play the 3d horror game. It looks fantastic. Just *chef's kiss*.
Those Kinder-esk egg moomin figures are still going around in sweden and I'm still collecting!! So. Many. Hattifnatters!!!!
ive no idea who you are, but i love moomins, and you have a great vibe. subscribed ❤
I love the sheer abject horror of early 3d video games
I'm really excited for the Snufkin game too!!! It's already on Steam, they list it as 'open world game' among other things.
I used to play the wizard’s hat whenever i went to my transparents’ House, it holds so much nostalgia and has definitely shaped me lol
I was looking for "Suuri Muumijuhla". I played it as a kid over 20 years ago. I didn't remember the name, I barely remembered anything but the balloons. Thank you.
Nice video covering Moomin games released. I bet that this video was hard to make due language barrier so I don't mind that you didn't catch all of the info.
Like you didn't discovered the MUUMI2 Aka "Muumit Merenaalloilla" which is the second Moomin point-n-click game made by Norsk Strek AS.
Great Moomin Party (or in Finnish Suuri Muumijuhla) is a great game :)) Believe me, it has a English translation actually! You could give it a try!
Looking for the next videos!
A few insights towards the Finnish releases of these games since a lot of them were coming out when I was a kid;
The amount of point and click games and games with no real plot and mostly just interactions between characters or the environment is probably due to Moomins at the time being viewed as something for very small children. That is to say, the target audience was not expected to be very good at any kind of game that required anything beyond the intuitiveness of just pointing and clicking.
You wonder at the car building minigame in the Moomins and the Magic Lamp, and while I do not know whether this is actually the case, I would wager that it has something to do with the popularity of another game series for this same demogrpahic: "Masa Mainion autonrakennuspeli" and the sequels (the name translates to Masa Mainio's Car Building Game; the sequels had you build a boat and a plane, you can probably guess the titles). The game is excellent when it comes to games for kids; you are this sort of engineer dude with a little workshop in the middle of nowhere in Finland and you put together a car, except you have a huge variety of different parts you can use to build it, and a lot of the parts have individual different sort of mini-quest things to get them, and the ways in which they would interact and make the car behave when you finally go to drive it and take part in the race at the end of the game made it a massive hit for the demographic. Seeing as that game was so popular, I would not be surprised if the car building segment wasn't trying to cash in on the popularity of Masa and his car made out of random shit he found around a small Finnish village.
Also, "The Moomins Hiding" would more accurately translate to "The Moomins play Hide and Seek", the translator software probably couldn't pick up the nuances of the word (piilosilla may be used to refer to people playing hide and seek, i.e. hiding, or just sort hiding but in a playful manner if that makes sense, whereas the game itself in most contexts would be "piilonen" or "piilosta" which explains the translator's mistake)
All those Finnish Point & Clickers from late 90s to early 2000s were all developed by a Norwegian studio Norsk Strek (hard to find info since it looks like they don't exist anymore). They made like 7 Moomin games total and I played some of them as a child (especially the invisible child!) but it's weird how the art style changes from bad to better and then back to worse but all those games still had the same cover art style (or maybe they updated the box covers to look similar in early 2000s that I remember from my childhood because through google I think I found some OG covers to the 1996 game)
The 3D Moomin game, I never played it myself but every time Moomin is mentioned to one of my friend she always brings it up. Cause it like glitched her computer to crash or whatever it was!?! Which, wow, as it was not scary enough. Plus the texture for Stinky was apparently the most horrifying in the game.
I got recommended this video after watching the new Snufkin game trailer probably way too many times and holy shit I love the vibe here
im glad :)
As someone who spent her early years playing and crying about failing to do all the minigames for the "Great Moomin Party" (or fest i mumin dalen as I knew it), thank you for validating my view of it being both obsessively fun and also creepy af.
Your narration was so charming and fun. Really enjoyed this. ^.^
I loved Taikalampuu and Moomins hiding, I played both in Finnish as a kid and wish I still could, they were full of more mini games than shown
Specifically I remember my favourite in Moomins hiding was the dress-up game for snorkmaiden and in Taikalampuu there was a cloud surfing kind of game
We have that 1950's board game at my childhood home, we used to play it a lot and honestly it's a great family board game! If I remember correctly, the winner gets a jam toast.
We also had that Stickypaw game and I really remember it looking better hahaha. Also remember playing the 3D game, I think the goal was to organise a party? The magician's hat was probably my favourite out of the ones I've played as a child!
i had the moomins and the mysterious cries game but on pc... memories (the only things i properly remember about it are niisku's (snork in english i think ?) pipe arranging game and there was something that i was terrified of but i cant remember what... now i kinda wanna try to find it and play it again
There was also a Japan-exclusive game for the DS released in 2009.
Name?
I'm so glad you had Muumit piilosilla, was thinking you wouldn't since it's in finnish but it's the most nostalgic out of moomin games and so silly :'3 And dunno if someone said already, sorry if they did but english title of the game would be "Moomins playing hide and seek" :D
Nice video :)
Figured I'd translate all the titles you didn't have an accurate translation for:
Muumipeli -> Moomin Game [yeah you had this one but I wanted to say It's actually a pretty good game, I remember playing it a lot with my parents when I was a kid :)]
児童英検対応 ムーミンとえいご たんじょうびのおくりもの (Jidō Eiken Taiō Mu-min to Eigo Tanjōbin no Okurimono) -> Children's English Proficiency Test - Moomin: A Birthday Gift
Muumit Piiloisilla -> Moomins playing hide and seek
Muumit ja salaperäiset huudot -> Moomins and the mysterious cries
The Grand Moomin Party is my absolute favorite.
I have to say that it's not technically a 3D game, it's actually a set of stills and QuickTime videos of a computer generated environment, kind of like the sprites from the Donkey Kong Country/Land series were created by computer generated 3D models were digitally photographed.
Fascinating! While most of these games look... out of my demographic, to say the least, some genuinely look interesting! I gotta see more about that board game... And I'm also very curious about this new Snufkin game!
the trailer released recently! its a super cute looking game :) glad you enjoyed the video!!!!
duuude... i love you sm ur hilarious and your voice aaaaaha
anyways where can i play these game >:))))
How adorable!
When I was looking up Mymble (I actually thought Mymble is the older daughter but she is also called Mymble? And the site also quoted that Mymble (as in little My's sister) something about being a Mymble kin?)
Anyway I saw a screenshot that looked like it was from a game, where Mymble (the daughter) stated that she was born from a shell in her mother's aquarium???
Moomins and the mysterious crys of is actually moomins and the mysterious screams.
I clicked this epcifically for one moomin game that you did not mention. Or so I thought. Moomins Tale might be it. I looked up some screenshots where it looks less bright and vibrant and it matches the darker look from the game in my memories. But I thought it was an adventure game, so, I dunno if this is definitely the game I remembered from my younger years. The fact there is apparantly no actual Moomins adventure game is utterly baffling.
i am so excited for the new snufkin game :-) i got so excited wen it was announced i loveeeee the art style 😁
I love ur moomin Commentary :D
But what about the mobile apps? I assure you there are some moomin video games in there underneath all the microtransactions.
for sure!!! i actually have like, half a video done for mobile apps, maybe ill look into it more.....
There is a new moomin valley game coming out and you play as snufkin I'm so excited it looks like the game will be some sort of mabey lzle game and it involves using music
i know :D its super exciting! i just recently published a video about it, i think its gonna turn out to be a super cute game
The old Moomin PC games were so popular when I was a kid 🥰 I played them on the school computers all the time. So many finns have such fond memories of these games
I know a cellphone game called "Moomin valley" (I don't remember) I't japanese and have the same artstyle of the original books. I't so simple but so cute. You haber to made your own valley. Idk I love it
The original gem paper pieces of the Moomin board game remind me of "The star of Africa", a classic Finnish board game that is problematic (you basically pretend to be a colonizer) so yeah... I don't know why in Finland we don't all play just Moomin games instead of the problematic ones. And ah I remember playing Muumit piilosilla on my dad's Windows 95 when I was little.
Im a fin and im happy crying seeing all these games i played as a kid! Thank you! ❤
i'm glad i could give you some happy nostalgia :) !!
Played 3 of theese when i was a kid. The "hide and seek game" with the groke in the wardrobe was a nightmare! Played it for like 25 years ago 😭❤️
This reminded me that I've been getting ads for a Moominvalley mobile game
No clue what it's actually about I kept scrolling past it
Stickypaws is a very literal translation of Tahmatassu. 'Tahma' is derived from the word 'tahmea' = sticky, and 'tassu' = paw.
That gci moomin game gives off strong Gregory Horror Show vibes with it’s animations.
i played mooomin and the hobgoblins hat! so many memories
edit: i manged to find out theres speedrunning for that game? and through the speedrunners i got a romhack n FINNALY COMPLETED IT!!! THE HATTIFATTNER STAGE KICKED MY ASS WHEN I WAS A BABY
There's one thing I'd like to point out regarding that Moomin Game that only a Finn is likely to notice. The way you described the game and the little pictures of shiny valuables share a striking resemblance to another board game called "Afrikan tähti", which roughly translates to the Star of Africa. That game's purpose is awfully similar; you start off in Cairo or Tangier, go around the map of Africa in search of this titular jewel and you collect different shiny valuables during this search. I don't know if the similarities are intentional, though both of these games were first released around the same time. Oddly enough the English Wikipedia has an article on this board game, if you want to inspect this more closely
Yes queen, let's worship those pepperoni hippos
The game where little my jumps on the sofas is like floor is lava and if you don’t don’t place a piece of furniture and make little my jump she falls on the floor and gets flattened like a pancake
Muumit Piilosilla was one of the best games from my childhood

Snufkin melody of Moomin valley apparently coming in this year?? I hope they’re right !
Fun fact about the "Grand Party 3D game"
I think the Finnish original cast ALSO recorded the Swedish dub for that game xD
Since most of those actors were old enough to have mandatory Swedish in school when they were small.
Or most likely they used the Swedish cast since they were Fenno-Swedes.
There is also a Moomin mobile game named Moomin move, which is very much a Pokemon go with moomins.
Did you know this video was included in a finnish moomin ytp :D
0:22 i would rather say its more like the winnie the pooh of finland
I played The grand Moomin Party as a child!!! so cozy and freaky! found it in a library ! There is also a mobile game that is super cute, but will make you broke...

gonna answer some stuff
moomins hiding is actually called moomins hide and seek
moomin and the mysterious cries of is meant to be called moomins and the mysterious yelling or smth and basically moomin tries to find out what is causing a mysterious scream in the valley and basically you collect parts from characters to build an airship to find the screaming sound and it also uses that one goofy meme audio where it's a bunch of boing bing bonk sounds (basically the one that's used in the penis music meme)
and another game was one about that weird ship thing that was a point and click and it is one of the better ones
