Enjoying Contention, not being locked behind 3 lives really opens the game up a little, everyone plays just that little bit more aggressively which makes for some good fights.
Agree. Always thought the three lives restriction punished new players who are trying to learn the game and are getting picked off like little baby birds in a canyon with eagles
@@mikeck4609 I always thought that, if there is going to be a lives restriction, there should be a way to get lives back (that's not simply time based), ie flying supply missions/doing CSAR or something, but not everyone wants to fly helo's or has the modules.
It’s nothing to do with skill though, BlueFlag forces even the most skilled players to be more passive because they know a simple mistake could cost them. It also promotes a flip flopping campaign progression style where Red go hard when blue are in bed, and vice versa, because there seems to be such a weird US vs everyone split the time zones per side seem to never be active at the same time. It honestly might as well be PVE because of how the lives adjust everyone’s approach to combat, the second I find anyone they just run away.
That Hornet fight near the end was awesome to watch. Can't pretend I understood even half of the things you did but it looked super cool! Skyrim ending, Skyrim ending! You've got a history of slamming it into the ground, it was A-4 vs MiG-29 the last time I remember you dying to the ground.
Contention is awesome!, One thing i would say about the video, this was Caucasus Test basically and some performance issues were found and being adjusted on the standard Syria it doesn't have the performance problem. Great video Bullet!
Server is a slideshow. I get 70+ on any other server / any map. Takes me 10 minutes just to slot in and I hover around 20 FPS with constant dips to 1 fps.
It's really cool that there's more and more 80s servers popping up. It really gives the M2000 a place to shine, taking it out of the awkward middle ground it finds itself in between proper cold war and modern stuff
So glad all these cool servers are coming online. Between Contention, ECW, and now Coop's 80's I feel like I have options. I do wish there was a Coops "Cold War" that got rid of the more modern stuff, basically if Coop took the plane set from ECW and adjusted it slightly. The warehouse system now that its pretty OK, could help alleviate people bitching about missiles, as you could "regulate" how many are being made "off map"
Im glad more people playing complicated servers with logistic and ground units using Combat Arms. With all respect to Blue Flag it feels a little bit outdated nowadays. We have great places like SDCS, DDCS, COOP, now this one, just great
Honestly been one of my favourite servers to be on, its dynamic, people on coms who have an idea to what theyre doing and people are active. Its awesome!
The lack of consequences for deaths in any server just makes it A kills B, C kills A, D kills C - airquake. That new “the Coop” server seems to be where it’s at. Otherwise people just thirst the kill no matter if they die again and again… which is just CoD in a plane.
How does Coop do it? I’d have said the limited lives aspect of BlueFlag and the one side switch per campaign are the weakest points of the server. I said the same in a comment above but when people are afraid to die, they’re also afraid to fight, so it becomes an extremely passive and stale PvP environment where the focus becomes ground strikers vs fighters constantly because fighters are able to just run away from one another and killing a fighter is a waste when they aren’t progressing the campaign anyway. Every time I see a team make progress on BF, it’s been undone by the next day because the time zone differences and team locking mean that when the US time zone is active being different from Europe basically just turns it into a PvE farming experience during each time zone’s downtime.
@@Bullet4MyEnemySorry, didn't see the msg. Don't get me wrong, I really like the server but wish people tried to survive more. Coop has limited lives per 24 hrs (5 I think) - I also understand why people don't like that... it is what it is. Great vid as always.

Without ddcs i dont think this server would have happened. Ive tried it and it runs at like 40fps since there were to many ground units. but yea this is basically ddcs without optimization lol
@4MyEnemy No its PvP there is bluefor redfor no ai enemy planes other then awacs. You can control and move all the ground units just like this server and when you dont control them ai takes over. So i think they name it pvpve. Its got its own warbond currency every unit you kill you get warbonds depending on what it is you get more. @tmvm on DDCS Jtac and Observer slot are locked for all players ,so you cannot control all units. There are now forcing new VoIP system, what is the point of discord ? Night time on europe servers is full of blue (us) day time of red (rest of world) New spawn system doesn't allow you to use other player vehicle if you don't have permission. DDCS was and still remains one of the most awesome scripted game but currently is like veterans vs new players = meet grinder. The lifes/spawn restriction is a must on every server who had ctld and CA access ,you fly plane and die you get to heli and help others.
I do love the Mirage; but man, the limitation on the number of missiles, only being able to carry two radar guided missiles, and the ease of which the magics are fooled by flares, makes it tough
The Magics seem to be so inconsistent for me, sometimes they’ll rail everything through all the flares in the universe. Then other times they’ll miss if the guy flicks a cigarette out of the cockpit. Missing a Hornet at that range especially seems kinda bs because the Hornet only gets shit small flares.
There does seem to be some server gremlin shenanigans going on at the moment. I was on ECW the other day and on the ground at Bassel Al-Assad I was getting sub 5fps constantly. Managed to start up and take off and once I was 2/3km away it went back to my usual 80. Worth trying the server again, this Cauc event was apparently a test - I didn’t realise at the time - and I did have some minor server issues - but other commenters have said they’ve since sorted the problems out.
@@Bullet4MyEnemy Hm, I'll give it another shot, maybe. I also get horrid lag spikes on ECW, occassionally down to 1fps (One!) but only during load-in and statup, and then its almost always smooth after taxi and takeoff. Whereas Contention was a straight-up slideshow the whole time.
I was expecting him to be my end until I saw the Abrams 😅 I had a sortie from Beslan where Blue were sending a seemingly never ending stream of helis from a FARP to the south, I gun killed something like 7 apaches one sortie, several Hueys and Gazelles on the next, that clip was after dying to an Abrams of all things whilst circling the FARP - they overran the airbase before I could get back. I’m not sure how severs can improve the heli gameplay loop, but it’s why I don’t tend to play them. If people understand the gameplay loop they can work out where to look to find helis, and once jets find helis, there’s not a lot the heli can do about it. I had a sortie from Beslan where a FARP near Nalchik was sending a seemingly endless stream of helis towards the airbase until I was killed on start up. I wouldn’t say that distance was bad at all for a heli, but it was direct enough to find them all easily, I downed 7 in barely 20 minutes by just scanning the same area - must’ve sucked for them, but the airbase ended up being captured pretty quickly all due to heli input so I guess it boils down to whether you want individual success, or team success. I think the server is more about team progress than the players’ individual achievements.
