I have one and I love it. I have a lot of folders and this is my favorite. I like it so much I bought 3 of the real ones after the import. I don’t know why, but it is. I find it easy to deploy, great feel and control, and the finger hole is the best part. I don’t ever use self-defense knives for utility tasks, so, not being able to cut through cardboard like butter doesn’t matter.. you should just get a thin razor for that. Lastly, all folders are a compromise, want a real “tactical” knife, get a fix blade like the clinch pick from shivworks.
The design looks like it's meant for close quarters cutting in combat(similar to the Ka-Bar TDI or Spyderco Yojimbo), but the deployment just makes it poorly suited for that sort of situation which, well, kinda leaves this thing without a real role.
It takes a few tries to get used to the flipper, it was actually a mistake when we first designed it but once we tried to push button technique it works extremely well, almost like an automatic.
Yes very nice push button action. BROUSBLADES
So it cuts poorly, an tactically its lacking. Ill stick with mt zt 0620 with the wave an elmax steel. Thanks for the honest review once again.
thank you for the honest review. These have always been my concerns about it and everyone else just wants to blow smoke!
the rattle is probably the detent ball. I had that on a ZT.
The rattle is coming from the stop pin, normally stop pins have pressure on them from the blade being closed but if you look closely at the design we use a secondary stop inside the backspacer.
It has a really cool look to it.
My EDC is a Kershaw Outlier, which I use everyday at work cutting cardboard and the likes.
Appreciate your time and efforts on the video.
As for the self defense aspect, you can defend yourself with a ballpoint pen if need be.
So I would say this puppy would have no problem with any of the close to the surface major arteries.
Keep up the good work!
Aaron! The rattle you hear is the stop bar pin. It only rattles when the knife is closed. Great vid brother
I've been so excited for these knives
I have two and agree with you 100%, I still like em, great video, thanks!
I got this Brous Blades Silent Soldier import and it sucked!!! When I got mine from BladeHQ I noticed an issue straight out of the box, the issue was that the bearings rattled loudly when you shook the knife!!! I was very noticeable and annoying, so I returned it to BladeHQ!!! Also look at the hole in the blade that you put your finger through which is a Brous signature design. There's actually not that much steel between the edge of the hole and the actual cutting edge. So if you lay the edge back to make this knife more of a slicer and then eventually sharpen it a few times there would be even less steel. Was not a fan of the design and the overall quality!!!
Sharp as a screwdriver- liking your description
Personally, I don't carry a pocket knife for defensive purposes so this looks like it fits the profile of someone who just want a little cutting tool for slicing packing tape, blister packs etc. Just grabbed one for $49. Will probably end up in the knife case since the Mini Bodega always seems to find its way into my pocket. Great review!
I think the Cold Steel Tuff Lite and Mini Tuff Lite would be more useful.
I'm glad you reviewed this. I haven't seen any other reviews that I feel is trustworthy like your reviews. I thought it had ball bearings but it doesnt. I was going to buy this but again glad I saw this review
It is on ball bearings, they are caged in a brass washer
@@BROUSBLADES ok well that makes a difference. I love how unique this knife is. I also preordered the other one that hasn't came out. The model number is slipping my mind but it has a very attractive tanto blade. I hope it releases soon otherwise I will buy the more expensive one.
@@BROUSBLADES its the reloader. I need this knife
I usually don’t like different style blades but I think that is sexy.
I have the 1st release of the original Silent Soldier. It doesn’t have the finger guard and it cut me, lol. My bad but I am glad he changed the design near the blade. I do notice the handle...it really, really, changes the way the knife presents in the hand. I don’t like it.
Get a Fred Perrin Spyderco Street Beat. That will do it for you.
Nothing about this knife connects with me, but somehow GT still makes a video that I enjoy from start to finish.
I was interested in this folder for a utility knife, after watching this, no thanks! Excellent vid!
Not everyone is buying a knife to use as a tool. I agree that the SSF doesn’t necessarily “make sense”, but that doesn’t negate the fact that it’s super cool... and that is why I bought an original and an import. In fact, I don’t use any of the cool knives in my collection. When I need a knife, I use that exact Husky utility blade and an old Buck fixed blade.
Man things were going great I did love the look of the knife but then you started cutting with it .Ouch that sure changed my mind nope thanks for showing it like it is.
haha same
Just ordered 2 sunglasses from Knockaround and I can't wait for them to get here. Used your link so hopefully you get credit for that. I love the design of this knife but can't justify the purchase given the glaring problems you explained
I have coveted this knife for a long time. Maybe for Christmas. But honestly, there are so many knives and guns on the list, who knows! Still a darn cool blade, though.
This looks like a really nice knife. I don't know where it would fit in for me but it is interesting.
Aaron have you ever encountered those mall ninjas? Do they sneak around trying to steal pretzels from the food court?
I have some American made brows blades was a little disappointed in hearing about his import line but I get it☹️.
wow, i was literally all set to buy this, cuz of other glowing reviews of this knife, but the downsides you mentioned of its questionable utility as both a tool and/or self defense has me really re-thinking getting this. i had figured this would be a very unique blade to have for my collection...
The rattle is coming from the stop pin. It's rattling against the liners. A lot of knives do that
Duly noted. I love it anyway. I will get one
Great video. Valid points.
“ absolutely love this knife… except for its use as..a knife?”😂
is it worth getting for $39.99? That's the sale price as of this writing.
Wavester64 shit any knife at that price if anything just to check it out!
You are a nice guy , this is only a defending tool, it has nothing to do with simple cutting test. You don't make sense your self explaining away how this knive fail cutting . So please don't get upset just rethink your uproach with other tactical self defense tools in your review. Thank you.
The rumor is that all of Jason Brous's knifes are made in China, and I truly believe it!! Also I got a few years ago some of Jason Brous's knives and I was really not happy!!! I had pre-ordered The Brous Bionic 2.0 through Jason Brous's website. First off the Bionic 2.0 I got had a wide triangle flat spot at the heel of the blade which was very ugly and it triggered me. Because of that triangle flat spot you loose the last quarter-half inch or so of the cutting edge. Secondly the liner lock itself was not only very thin, but had about as much lock up as a single piece of phone book paper. The liner lock when full engaged was basically on a hair trigger and could be easily disengaged with a slight movement of your hand, which was very very dangerous!!! So I email Brous Blades, in which Jason's wife works as customer service rep at that time and was responding to me via email. In my email I told her my Bionic 2.0 was unsave because the liner lock had barely any lock up(as much as a a piece of phone book paper). She then responded via email "This is how are knives are made and if you wanted a different level of lock up you should have contacted us first." She then said there are no refunds. So she basically said that having their liner locks on their knives lock up as much as a piece of phone book paper is their standard. I was thinking to myself so you intentionally make your liner lock knives in a manner that clearly unsafe and dangerous!!! That just put a bad taste in my mouth and was a huge turn off, also how snippy Jason's wife was with me was very unprofessional and rude.
99% of our customer base requests early lock up. All our locks are tested before shipping out so we would never send an unsafe lock to someone. Even if somehow the lock were to disengage the flipper tab is designed to keep the blade from collapsing on your fingers. We apologize about our customer service we have since hired a new customer service team and would gladly help in anyway way we can. Our shop number is 805-691-9622
Early lock up is an understatement!!! The lock up on the Brous Bionic 2.0 I got had about as much lock up as a piece of phone book paper!!! The liner lock had such a small about of lockup, it basically locks up on a hair trigger!!! Because of that the liner lock disengaged very easily with slight hand movement, which is clearly unsafe!!! Actually I did cut myself, because the blade on the Bionic 2.0 that I have did disengage while I was using it which startled me and that caused me to bobble the knife in my hand so when the blade did close half way I cut the base of the thumb on my right hand, thank god the cut was not that serious!!! I still have that Bionic 2.0. I never sold it or gave it away because it's clearly an unsafe knife and I could not knowingly give another person something that would cause them to get injured!!!
There's a clear difference between having early lockup and unsafe lockup!! I prefer early lock up, but having lockup as much as a thin piece of phone book paper is unacceptable lock up because it puts the liner lock on a hair trigger, which is very dangerous!!!
Nathan Stevens I was thinking the same. What kind of dude says he was ‘triggered’?! 😂
Could you please review or comment an opinion of the import version of the division flipper from brous? Not alot of content on it...thanks
Big thumbs down on that one..but thanks for the review..I was somewhat interested at one time
Looks Cool and the design is like a Kurmbt.Another great review Aaron.
I was lucky enough to get the one piece original knife while he was still making the Silent Solder himself.
Can you spydie flick it?
I have the Spyderco Introvert, which seems like a MUCH better version of this knife, if you like this style.
Phil Sinex I’m not a fan of the spider flick because it isn’t smooth enough and annoying. Having said that you can sort of spider flip or but it’s not made to open like that.
I think the rattle is detent rock.
Thanks for the review
It looks so cool. I hate it didn't perform well.
THE_OG_MP how didn’t it perform well? What did you use it for?
@@timm285 I was talking about the performance of the knife in the video.
I could not afford the original ones. When this came out i jumped on it and love it!
#mailbag. If you could make any unhealthy food health, what would it be?
Gravitate toward? More like float away. Different strokes for different folks.
#mailbag what historical military figure would you love to learn from?
This knife would be so much better if they would do a zero grind like a high scandi but they would never do that.
So many people talk about the thickness, well try boxing someone with one in hand......
#mailbag if you could retire to one place, where would it be?
prefer the neck knife
Hilarious that he's essentially ripping off his own stuff with cheap Chinese copies of his own products. Guess he wanted to beat the counterfeiters to the punch. LOL
I just sent Jason an email voicing my disappointment in his Chinese fantasy crap that couldn’t cut shit.all for the love of money.
To many companies in US can bring a good EDC knife to market at a reasonable price to want some Chinese CNC crap
CHINA D2 ON AN EXPENSIVE MALL NINJA KNIFE
So it's pretty much a $70 putty knife?
I’m just not a fan of the flipper tab... too large & pointy.
That knife look tiny little bit like Spyderco🔪🔪 because hole look like it but way bigger!!!😄😄😄👌
If they hadn't put that goofy hole in the blade, it would have looked like something to take seriously.
Not defensive but offensive
in response to the self defense aspect of this knife, this Kali guy, who's admittedly pretty douchebaggy, but nevertheless skillful, seems to think this is a fantastic self-defense blade:
#mailbag what is your favorite part, story or book in the Bible?
just look weird and nothing more look dangerous but not really
It looks like a claw
At :0037 second to unique in case I don’t like it.
To me a stupid impractical knife.
Tactical ? How.?
Another Chinese fantasy knife just like the ones at 7-11
first
The original was $200?!! FOR THAT?!!
Yeah & both versions have the same blade steel (D2).
U.S. labor mostly
giant hole = NOPE
