These.combo sets were sold in supermarkets here in the UK,; repaired a number of them, some were a pain to work on with everything attached to one PCB, the better ones were like this one with desperate modules, they still give good performance today, despite their age, give me a CRT set over an LCD one anyday

I didn't even know there existed a TV VCR DVD COMBO that had the DVD player on top of the VCR, I thought they were all side by side like normal combo units.
This VCR and DVD are usually made by Apex which it was used to be part of it now Trutech, Haier, et cetera et cetera, Chinese made components has a similar features like I would not believe how these fonts from the screen look the same as when operating the VCR and DVD.
I assembled mp3 decoder module with a transformer power supply and pam8403 amplifier with a phone power supply. Everything works except FM. Why is that? Somebody told me that switch mode amplifiers and smps kills FM reception. Is that true?
Some of the all-in-one units were pretty ugly. This one's not too bad I was actually quite impressed once I got into it it wasn't hard to service at all. Some of the Panasonic units were kind of ugly to work on. I've yet to get on the Toshiba 27 inch CRT DVD VHS machine that I have. Got to find a place to put it where I can put it to use. It should be good the person that gave it to me hadn't used it much. So it should in theory have a picture that's as good as it was when it came out of the box because I bet it hasn't got more than a couple of hundred hours of use.
Any chance you could share what model this TV is? I have this exact TV but no OEM remote. My Harmony 650 remote does not recognize the "DVT3013A" model lol -- different model number from mine?
Yes they record on tape and play DVD. I have one but mine is a big one. A 28" tube. I haven't serviced it yet. One day I will dig it out and go over it.
I own a Symphonic 9' TV VCR Combo. it worked perfectly when i got it but after a few tapes I went to eject the tape and the TV shut off. Now the TV will no turn on for more than 10 seconds nor can I eject the tape - do you take repair requests haha because I have no idea how to get it fixed
Hey I'm new to crt repair but I've managed to revive multiple sets surprising. But I still don't understand what the white thing attached to the fly back cable is for? He is touching it at 1:49 in the video for context.
It's just a spacer / clip. To hold the excess wire and keep it spaced away from yoke. If the wire were to be resting up against the yolk coil want to set was assembled over time vibration from moving the set around or if it was safe place that a vehicle like a motorhome vibration could cause the insulation to rub and wear down and since that lead has around 24 kilovolts in it if you wore down the insulation it could Arc. So that's just a spacer to keep the wire separated from touching the picture tube or anything else and it's used to tie up the excess length as they put an extra long lead in so the chassis can be pulled out and worked on like I did. some TVs the lead was so short that you actually had to remove the second Adam to pull the chassis
We need these all in devices to make viewing the VHS media at its best and all hifi a bonus to output to better speakers,the VHS image looks so bad on new hd screens ,sad this long lived tape so left behind by technology.
VHS was bad. It was a horrible format the worst quality of any of the consumer video formats. The only reason that VHS succeeded at all was because JVC was determined to hurt Sony and dump their products on the market selling them at a loss. Sony it's one of the co-inventors of VHS although JVC never gave them credit but they were. Sony developed all of the home video formats they picked betamax as a scaled down version of their three quarter inch which was already very successful. Sony Panasonic JVC Sanyo at Toshiba we're all involved in developing a home video format. There were several systems that were proposed. Sanyo have their own system called vcord which actually went into production and I've seen at least one unit back in the 80s. Sony demanded that all systems be compatible and propose their beta system. The beta system was a scaled down version of three quarter umatic. It used the same carrier frequency the same color under frequency and the same video encoding system. Was very easy to scale down the existing 3/4 system to half inch beta. The m loading system which ultimately became VHS Sony wasn't interested in pursuing because at the time the tape had to be unloaded to rewind and fast forward. JVC and Panasonic we're on board with the beta system Sony made the announcement that betamax was coming and that everyone was on board. JVC secretly made some changes to the m loading system to make it different enough that it did not infringe on all of Sony's patents. They did this by reducing the drum size lowering the carrier frequency and changing the color heteradine frequency from 688 to 629 kilohertz. That made it different enough that Sony couldn't sue them for ripping them off. JVC rushed their machine to market and licensed any other company that wanted to make their own machines to do so. They also dropped the tape speed at RCA's request as RCA wanted 4 hours on a tape instead of just two. You have to remember also that betamax initially only offered 1 hour recording time but it quickly went to two and then three with the longer tape. Sony was pushing picture quality over everything else and JVC was just interested in trying to hurt Sony so they dumped their inferior product on the market. It worked it took a number of years but it worked. Sony however did get the last laugh in this VHS versus beta battle because beta became the international production standard for field recording with their betacam system. Betacam is basically betamax on steroids. Full component recording faster tape speed better sound better picture better signal to noise ratio and brought the picture quality up to 1 in VTR quality. A consumer VCR might sell for $1,000 for a high-end machine. An entry level beta-cam machine that was sold to TV stations and production houses 30 to $40,000. I and camera 100 Grand easy. They made a lot of money on beta. Speaking of betacam I'm going to be picking one up tomorrow and do a teardown service and see if I can get it to work. That should be interesting.
My first vcr was Betamax and it was the most popular medium in my life local area to begin with but gradually lost out to vhs! I had a rental vcr so luckily I wasn’t left with a unit I couldn’t use as the video rental stores soon stopped stocking beta videos!
@@12voltvids Is it correct that the rift started when JVC asked Sony for a longer recording time for their tapes and Sony refused. I remember hearing it described this way before. I think if I as a child in the 90s was recording on Betamax instead of VHS it would've probably changed the entire way I recorded on tapes. Even Beta III wouldn't have been long enough, and TV reception quality was often so bad I doubt I would've ever noticed VHS's extra chroma issues. From a professional perspective Beta was always the better choice but the average dumb consumer use cases were just very different. SLP added a lot of value onto VHS tapes that could go for up to $5 a pop (and since this is Sony we could assume beta would've been even more expensive still) until the late 90s and were often used once or twice to record something people wanted to keep for at least a while. Thankfully this debate is over now that we have the infinitely perfect DVD that nothing can ever replace LOL

The VHS cassettes had more tape on them initially and the tape ran slower so 2 hours was the initial recording time. Sony dropped the speed to match 2 hours and VHS did the same for 4 hours. Sony introduced b3 which gave 3 on standard tapes, 4.5 on l750 and 5 on l830 very thin tapes. Too late though. Same battle happened with DVD. We have DVD-r and DVD+r recordable. When HD cane out there was the HD DVD camp bating Sony with Blu-ray. Guess who won that battle. The vthete was dat vs dcc. Again Sony won.
These units were common in the listening booths in school and university libraries back in the day.

In my case, after opening the back cover, I always remove the dust before making any repairs.Very helpful. 👍

I've seen TV/VCR/DVD combos but not like this. Pretty neat to see one designed like this.
And everyone says Chinese stuff is junk.
I like those too. Never had one. But I heard what a hassle they were if the players quit working. If they work, they're great 👍.

I have a little Orion CRT with VCR in it.... Love it !!

Haier is Chinese company but the founder lives in Canada about 1km from my house. (Been to his place a few times at work).

I have judged all in one units to be crap!, maybe not.

Given how few circuit boards are in "modern" (2008-2010) DVD/VCR combo sets, I imagine you could make it fit like that...

just picked up a magnavox CC13B1MG01 with a stuck vhs tape in it and it powers down after a few seconds. got the tape out but it still powers down
