The reason as to why David always sends an entourage when requesting for something is because he secretly fears/hates (direct) rejection. A character flaw we have all experienced (or still do!). You'll notice that every time David has a romantic interest in a lady, he always sends an entourage, in case he gets rejected (which he rarely does). It's a safety cushion. In another case, when Nabal rejects David's request of good will in chapter 25 of Samuel, a confrontation arises and Abigail intervenes or has to intervene because David is absolutely vexed at Nabal's rejection and almost over-reacts. David, God's loyal servant is human, just like us. NB: Because of his hate for rejection, David almost misses God's mission for him at the time which was to redeem Abigail (a beautiful and intelligent woman) from a toxic life rather than to destroy Nabal's entire household (including Abigail, his future wife). God bless :)
