I can't seem to listen to songs without attaching a story to them, and this is my current one for this! Once, a man born from fire fell in love with the soul of a river. Each sunrise, he made the walk to meet her, and at the end of each walk, he found her waiting at the riverbank for him. They spoke about everything under the sun together, but never knew each other's touch, for it could kill them both. She told him of the world she knew, and he his, and that little spot of theirs became the center of his universe. But rivers are not meant to live as we do, and every day, she grew more and more tired. And then, one morning, the river's spirit was not there to greet him. That spot where the grass grew greener lay empty. He understood that she had fallen asleep. As she had told him, when rivers sleep, they do not wake again for a very long time. And as she had not told him, she knew that a dam was to be built. I imagine that this song switches between places in time- when the man spent every waking hour with the river, and when he comes back to watch it dwindling, the landscape around him suffering from its loss. The river only becomes smaller and smaller, and what had once been everything to him has been reduced to a memory etched into a dying land. He had never been allowed close to her waters, but finally, without the spirit there to tell him not to, he goes into the river, taking his life in what was left of it.
