Yo this worked! Also: if the little pin of the microswitch fell out (happened to me). You can take the microswitch apart, put the pin back in, install it and it will work. Worked for me!
Ccn you tell me how and what did you splice? Did you do a mid splice to connect blue/black together ? Not sure what to spice as there still needs a connection to the car side. Thanks
This connector has two cable. Just tie them together. Tells the car you don’t have an issue (ie tray is in place). Stop the car from checking and just allow soft top to come down.
@@v.m.7228 no it will not short out. When the tray is down in the trunk, it connects the circuit. Sometimes the connector in my hand fails. So car does not realize that the circuit is complete. So you are forcing it.
When you unlock this switch, there is a cable that attach to it. Connect both ends together. It will close the circuit. The car thinks everything is ok and allow soft top motor to move.

Thanks for sharing.
Thanks.
It’s Really Helpful
In my z4 just that metal click part com out from micro switch I fixed in few mints and is all working as it should be.
I’m an idiot. How do I pull the connector apart? Mine is very tight and I don’t see a release tab on either clip.
No worries. There are two screws that hold it in place. Since these cars are a bit old, it may require a bit of wiggling. You will get it.
Hi, do you know where this switch is located in an E46?
Sorry I do not. Have now owned an e46 for a while. Would have loved to keep it for fun but someone was nice enough to t-bone me in it.

@@Simplenetwks Thanks so you mean to strip each wire a little at mid point to connect them? This won't short or trip a fuse?

@@Simplenetwks Thanks so I will spice each wire mid point and connect them together (not sure how yet), then clip to the car connection.
What size are the bolts for the switch in the trunk?
Nvm, my bad. I didn’t go far ahead enough in the video
Hope the vid helps you. When I didn’t figure it out, I had a though time trying to understand why my soft top didn’t work.
@@Simplenetwks I replaced the motor yesterday and it works, it’s just that the switch is pushed back so the tray the top sits in doesnt touch it
Dont cut the cable just push a pin through the 2 wires to make a connection
Great idea. Thank you for sharing. Do continue to share to help others.
When you splice are the wires supposed to all go together? Or blue to blue and black to black?
Yes together, this tricks the system to think all is ok and allow your soft top to operate.
What cables do you tight together

So was the switch in the boot the problem?
Ulrich yes it was. The replacement part on eBay is $30.
@@Simplenetwks Thanks man, this happened to be my problem aswell.
