In our old house, after I came upon the color for our living room of Sherwin William's "Gray Goose", I stuck with it for years.I loved how the color changed in different lighting.

It's all beautiful...I recently thought about changing my decor from the dark primitive colors to more of a white color, similar to yours, but most of my hutches, cabinets are in dark colors, and the thought of repainting them all white...I'm exhausted at the thought.
We built our house 35 years ago…….. I never stopped to really think of all the changes, upgrades, and additions we did through the years both inside and out.
Loved the tour! Thanks! I want to share, our home is over 100 years old and when we bought it 40 years ago, the small footed tub in our bathroom confused me a little. I am so glad we had it sandblasted and refinished. Our bath is white smoke on the walls, cherry woodwork and vanity, wood plank look floor with white footed tub. I am almost 70 now and my footed tub is my comfort and joy each evening! I highly recommend a footed tub! The only drawback is cleaning the floor under the tub. I have found easier ways to clean through the years and won't give up my tub until I can no longer get in and out of it! We have our perfect retirement home....5 rooms with 17 windows. We had purchased this house to flip...but when the coal mines closed we were just finishing our project. This house found a place in our hearts and we love it and our neighbors too much to ever move. I found your site during the long days of covid....and I still look forward to each new video!

Grays and whites are light, bright and timeless and compliment every wood color.
My home also changed over the last 20 years since we moved in .. I have done 95% of the work & changes.. it still needs something’s done , but I will get it done … one day ! But I’m so happy with my little home ❤

That's the fun of home ownership, changing things however you want them. A refresh gives you a mental boost. I have had our living room painted a pale blue-grey that changes color through out the day for about 15 yrs and just can't leave that color, it is so calming.
It was a lovely home to begin with, but you made a lot of beautiful changes. I really liked the red kitchen, but the white definitely made it more open and clean looking. Thank you for sharing all that with us.
I think if you painted that wall behind your stairs, the one your bedroom door is on, it would give that space more depth and interest, and would make the pretty stair railings pop! Say, a pretty soft or deep green. Fun to see the changes :)

You can make a huge impact on your steps by just adding texture to your kick plates. You could add stenciling, wallpaper, or even metal lattice work that’s used to cover radiators. I don’t like Orange looking oak, but am a natural wood lover. Took me forever to strip my railing down & it looks distressed. Maybe stripping the handrail or changing it would bring out more character.

Love all the changes you have made over the years Mary! We have been married for almost 40 years and the two homes we have lived in have been changed so many times too. Our current home has gone through some major changes and will continue as long as we are able to do the changes ourselves. I hear younger people say "I don't know what I was thinking with those color or style choices." when they refer to design aesthetics they loved in the past. It's always funny to hear that because I think it is perfectly normal to like a look and then change your mind about it in the future. We loved the look so much that we made changes to our homes. Then when we grow tired of the look, we can change it! The great thing about redoing our homes is that we can change things as we see fit for what we currently like. We don't have to be stuck in one way of decorating. Just because we loved flowered wallpaper in the 80s in mauve colors doesn't mean it has to stay that way. We can change it! Our homes will feel fresh again rather than growing stagnant looking. That's the beauty of making all things new again! Thanks for sharing the changes in your home! Mary, what you do need is a skylight over the stairwell. They are fairly easy to install, I'm sure your husband and the boys could do it. Unless that is, if they are not scared of heights. Stay safe, regards from Australia

How fun. We've lived in our house 40 plus years and have also done alot of work. Even added on 2 bedrooms and a bath. My husband did alot of the work himself. Change is good.

The place looks great. Your photography is excellent. It is nice that you recorded the evolution of your home. If I were to change anything I think I would take the beams that section off the kitchen and use them on the ceiling as a feature. That would really open up the space. Another thing that would open the space more is to make the flooring one consistent material throughout the living room, the dining area and into the kitchen. Patch work flooring can really make things feel disjointed and even make a living space feel smaller.
