Thank you so much. I wanted to cut a section, but not the entire piece. Been watching videos until you said it can’t be done. Thank you for letting me know I can stop searching. You have a new subscriber.
Just a heads up, you can right click on a "island" part and move it to the other side of the cut if you are using planar cutting. it will work for small parts that need to be moved to the other side of the cut. Really annoying if they are bigger parts. Might be worth it to deal with dowls if it cuts the way you want.
Super helpful, thank you! One thing I learned with a thin model is if the dovetail is outside of the body, the model will turn grey. I had no idea why it was, and once I got it in the model, it went back to pink and blue!
Im trying to follow your instructions, but im doing something wrong. I have a silhouette picture I've created, and i want to make it large enough for a wall hanging, but i can't seem to get it to cut and separate onto the other build plates. Maybe you could do a video for this.
I would like you to take this further with jumbo sizing articulated prints. I see these guys making those articulated dragons 8 feet long but I cant wrap my head around how they cut the articulation points and reattach them. You make excellent videos, very well laid out and easy to follow/listen to. Thanks for the quality content.
Love your vids at 1:19 I think the image is a Box and or Finger Joint. Dovetail is having an angle applied to the 90 degree finger joint. 7‐15 deg also rather than just Bambu lab these tutorials are identical to Orca Slicer which is open-source for all us non Bambu operators
Hi, yes the images were merely for representation. In the groove settings you can change it to box and finger. I probably should have shown more variety.
@@Kah-Rah-Tay Hey glad I could help. Being a woodworker myself, I migrated directly to the dovetail option. I also experimented with the dowel connectors and snaps too. But in the end the other options just don't compare to the cut tool dovetail in Bambu Studio. Or like you mention the Orca slicer cut tool.
Firstly, thank you for such an informative video. Super helpful! Can I ask it there's a way to move the menu box in Bambu Studio? I've found that the Cut tool menu (or any menu for that matter) blocks the model view that it makes it difficult to work with it. I've tried to resize, zoom in/out, reposition the model, set different views (top, rear etc), etc but it would be so much easier if the menu box could float and be moved to the side instead. Any chance you might know if this is possible? MIght not be possible but wondering if you had any tips. Thanks again!
I printed an Ironman helmet, the ear pieces broke off, so I went in to Bambu studio and cut out the ear pieces to print. However, when I hit slice, I get an error saying there's no layers and that I need to repair my model...No idea what I need to repair. I use the regular cut, not the dovetail cut since my Ironman helmet is already printed with the broken ear pieces.
Making it hard when you were dragging the dragon around to try and make it fit 🤪. Auto arrange allowing rotation would have done it for you. Also, you did not mention the tolerance part of the dovetail options that I noticed anyways.
Yes I have plans to create more videos about this soon. This one was definitely not my best work! If you haven't already I would like to invite you to sub my channel so you don't miss out on any of my upcoming videos! Hope your day has been awesome!
I really wish dovetail cuts would allow the right click to remove unwanted portions to be cut so you could do the best dovetail cut rather than worry about catching different parts of the model.
Couldn't you rotate the plane to where you want, not worry about what else it cuts off and then just delete all but the cut piece. Save the project and reload the entire model and start fresh? This should let you cut the model where ever you want since you'd be deleting everything except the cut piece.

That sounds like a great idea for a video, I'll add it to my list!

@@bambamprint Thats awesome I have only stuck to dove tail and the dowel like connectors. Learned a ton from your video Thanks again!

Does the error say Error: XX non-manifold edges (repair) in the bottom right corner?
@@bambamprint it says "no layers generated, repair your model". yes its at the bottom right corner.
@@archemity Ok try clicking the Green repair text. It should auto repair the model for you.

Exactly what I mention in the video. If we could isolate the cut and change its size that would be amazing!
Your confusing dove tail and box joint in your images.
Ya I understand the difference.
