Oh thank you so much for this video - I’ve been foundering - I have way too much, but I love buying, repurposing. I have a small local booth, but I also have items that will never sell locally. Many craft items - will be watching MORE from you, I love that you have great ideas and share possible pitfalls. I have an entire floor of my house dedicated to crafting - hoping to find folks who want some of the stuff I no longer do, so I can continue to get the stuff I love now (as well as the projects in process) out of my living space. Thanks so so so much!
An entire floor dedicated to crafting? Lucky you! Yes, our creative interests can change over the years. Hope you find buyers for what you want to let go of. Thank you!
It still exists on the USPS web site. I'm working on gathering more info regarding this. My local post office told me that one of the issues is that not all clerks are trained the same. The issue is what designates a "1st class envelope" vs. a "package." Thanks, Sue!
Great video! I must be fortunate here on the other side of Tennessee from you in that my post office puts tracking on all packages, even those that are thinner like you showed, without question. But thanks for showing that tidbit of information, I will file it away in case I need it. I was also glad to see you selling those hot iron transfer patterns. I picked up about 20 of them at a garage sale a few couple of months ago for about $2.00 for all of them and haven't listed them yet because I didn't know what they were. I knew they were "crafty" but hadn't researched them yet. I know a lot of craft stuff sells, so that is why I picked it up. I appreciate you showing this particular craft item in your video, now I am excited about listing the ones I have. Love your channel!
As I mentioned in the video, some postal clerks will question it and others will not. I was told yesterday that it is an ongoing debate and employees are being trained differently when it comes to "large envelope" vs. "package." I'm in the process of gathering more info regarding this. Happy to hear that this video was helpful to you with your hot iron transfer patterns. They can be used for all types of crafts. Thanks, Melissa!
Thank you so much for sharing all your knowledge. I cannot tell you how much you've helped me!!! I tell everyone interested in learning to sell on ebay about your bootcamp!!!!
Thank you for passing the word on about my summer Boot Camp! I did try to put helpful reselling information in the videos. Sadly, many of my regular subscribers did not watch them. So thank you so so much!
I wish i had just half of your wisdom!! Thanks for making me just a tad bit smarter when it comes to craft things. Ill be on the look out now for them.
Funny that you mentioned that a needle could be missing. I just bought a bag of 4 needlecraft kits for $3.99. One kit was new, but opened - of course the needle was missing. Another kit already sold for $24.95 -- WhooHOO! Thanks for this great video Vickie.

@@AvanteAvenue Hi Vickie, just a follow-up. I do look forward to hearing what you find out through your research--as you said you are working on this for a future video. I happened to have to go to a post office to mail school photos for my daughter--not my post office. (Very small one in Kidron) I took the opportunity to quiz the clerk who says she's worked there for many years. Her take is that the USPS has changed a lot with recent events-----I guess she means the disappearing of 1st class packages. She says they don't use that template anymore. I asked about my daughter's envelope---she had put in a light cardboard in to stabilize but it wasn't completely stiff. She said as long as it could bend a little it was ok for first class----but if we had wanted to send it as a package, all we would have to have done is pay for package--no need to stiffen more or put a packing peanut in there to make it thicker/uneven. So, that is one clerk's view. She seemed to agree that there is confusion. Sigh.
Questioning the very 1st item.. the quilt kit (valentine) why would you charge %10.80 for shipping? For Ground shipping that would be about $5 to ship. Please consider lowering your shipping to flat rate - your sales would go way up!!
I didn’t charge a flat rate of $10.80. The listing was set up for calculated shipping based upon the actual weight of the package and is calculated from my ZIP Code to the buyer ZIP Code. Very informative video Vickie! I have a large box full of wood items from Dollar Tree for crafting. Mostly for Christmas craft ideas. If I lot them up do you think they will sell?
When I print out my own labels, tracking is immediately added, and gets picked up by my carrier. So were you saying that you take your packages to the post office and pay retail prices to ship?
We always print our postage at home using pirate ship. We take it to the post office to get a receipt for our packages. We do not pay retail prices. Tracking is always included with ground advantage and Ebay only allows for “packages” so naturally tracking is included.

Hello, thanks you for your video full of expertise. Could you please give us some insight on why you don't accept returns? I do not either but I would like to know your insight. I believe this makes it a little more difficult to make a sale or not?
We basically have never accepted returns. Maybe a very, very long time ago. We don’t have any concerns or issues about not accepting returns. And there are some really big resellers who do not accept returns and make far more than what we do. I think buyers know by now that if there’s really something wrong with their purchase, Ebay will stand behind them and they can find a way to return it or get their money back. I do not think it affects our sales but then again, how would I know? I guess what I’m saying is, we just don’t want to accept returns unless we’ve done something wrong. Hope that helps and thank you, Rosa!
I've never heard of the 3/4" thing before, is it new? For the last 4ish years I've mailed using poly or bubble mailers without any issues. Is it because of the type of envelope or for some other reason?
No, it's not new and it still exists on the USPS web site. Some post offices enforce it, others do not. I'm in the process of gathering more info regarding mailing a "large envelope" vs. a "package." Thank you, Melissan!
Now this is a category I know and see a lot of resellers making mistakes. I see a lot of resellers label ALL knitting, crochet, and tatting as 'knitting.' That's okay if a buyer knows to put in the keyword 'knitting' when they are actually looking for tatting, but many don't know that. I also wish male resellers in the GW craft aisle would just be more polite to the crafters that are there looking for thrifted supplies (just saying for all you male resellers out there I see elbowing their way in). ;-)
I checked active and sold comps for every one before deciding to list some of them as a lot. There are quite a few on ebay. I did list others individually.
Tracking is required by Ebay, otherwise there is no seller protection. There would be no proof of delivery. Ground advantage packages and priority packages include tracking. Do you ship ebay sales without tracking? I just want to add that Ebay only allows for shipping labels for packages. Because packages come with tracking.
@dianaburns2796 Since Vickie is adding extremely light materials to get the required thickness, it's not adding to the overall weight of the package, which is normally where you would pick up an additional charge.
very interesting!
