We have both Vegega and Vego raised beds - they are about the same. We have had much gardening success with them, and I am planning on buying another, soon! In them, we have grown: Black eyed peas, green beans, turmeric, sweet potatoes, radishes, broccoli. We also have a wood raised bed, 3 years so far and no rot. It is a VegTrug.
Girl you are so brave to be out there with a storm coming. You are a true Floridian. I change to those metal beds after your recommendation. Those big ants are finally gone when the wooden beds were gone. I love them. ❤❤❤
I live in SE Florida, Zone 10b, and I do my container gardening in the Earthbox ,a bpa-free,plastic, self-watering planter which is coated to resist UVA-UVB damage from the sun.
Looks like you may have some rust starting under the coating (raised areas of coating) at the 10:55 mark. Not a knock on quality....metal rusts. Can be sanded off and hit with a rust converter, rust preventer or spray paint. Those seams and nuts and bolts that have no rust can be sprayed with Fluid Film rust preventer for better longevity.
I saw that during editing. Once I pull the sweet potatoes, I need to see if that is variability of applying the coating and leaving lumps or rust under the coating.
@@WildFloridian Possible it is a hiccup during spraying of coating. Just stood out to me because it just happened to be where you found rust on exposed metal.
I agree, coated metal is better than wooden beds at least here in FL. My pine beds lasted one year, and my cedar bed lasted two years. The metal ones are still going strong. I’ve bought Birdies (expensive) but would try Vegega next, for sure! I’d love an answer for the rubber edging that dries out and comes off over time. Thanks!
The feedback that I’ve gotten from our Floridians is that Birdies edging is different than VegeGa. For me, edging looks good still. But the other brand of beds I had…. The edging was a joke
I'm learning so much from your channel! We moved from my drought home state of CA to just north of JAX and I have had a sad mix of drowning and sunburnt plants until now. We are remodeling a bathroom and have the old acrylic tub - what do you think about using something like that for a raised bed?
Hmmm. Interesting… let me think. Love reusing things. Has a hole for drainage. Check depth… lettuce, beets, onions have shallow roots. You want 18” of soil depth for tomatoes, peppers, eggplant broccoli, etc. the coating on the bathtub is probably ok and not going to leech chemicals but I would double check. Also depending on the underside material you may struggle with rust from the salt in the air. But you may be able to resolve with a rust resistant paint. Those paints are NOT safe for food crops but fine for painting the outside of the tub.
Thanks for this information. I was hoping you did a video like this. I'm about to start a garden and wasn't sure what raised beds to purchase. I'm in Florida as well zone 10a in Kissimmee:~ Poinciana. Thanks 🙏🏿
I have had 9 birdie beds for about 3 years and the bolts are rusted to the point where I can’t reconfigure the beds anymore. The top plastic that covers the edging is also falling off. Also they have been peeling from the inside coating. I live in south Texas so it gets hot. The ones that are peeling are up against my wooden fence. Bought 4 Vego beds 2 years ago and the screws are not rusted yet.
That’s a bummer that the Birdie beds are not performing. You could try to swap out the bolts with stainless steel that you grab from a hardware store. I’ve gotten repeated feedback over the years about Birdies liners not being good quality. ☹️ I’m glad the Vego beds are working well. I’m 90% sure VegeGa manufacturers the beds for Vego. So it wouldn’t surprise me that the quality is the same.
Great video! Thirteen seconds into this video you show some 4'x8' beds with square corners, that are not the "bad ones". They look about 2' high. Where did you get these? This is what I've been looking for.
The ones with square corners are Vegega and are 17" high. I believe that hers are 3.5'x6.5' beds, but they also sell extension panels so you can make them longer.
Any good option for raisee bed that are high for people who can't bend over much. I would like to raise one up or something maybe rather than have to full a huge bed. Just wondering if anyine had good ideas on this.
I have Birdies beds that I found a lot cheaper and bigger then I could find in the Vegaga beds . I am in Georgia and have used Birders for the last 6 years. Tell me where can I find a 4 by 8 bed for less then 175.00 per bed.
I like the idea of them but I just wish there was a better way to make them look better. I am working on a cottage garden so the beds just don’t look good to me.
This is such a good point and why I tell my location. Climate matters! Different materials work better or worse based on the environmental conditions they are in. It’s why I don’t feel bad when people share their lived experiences. I share my experience and my thought process so people make better purchases. My suspicion would be that since you are in an arid drought climate, raising stressed plant roots who are reaching for the water table. In Florida, the water table is high in the summer and can drown plants, so we benefit from going up. Wishing you the best from Florida 🦩
I watched a guy video that has 4’ x 40’ raised beds made out of metal roofing cut in half with 3 foot poles every 4 foot and it’s doing great you can get Metal roofing 3’x20’ Good heavy gauge for around 20 to 30 bucks a sheet. And then you take some good half inch rebar to hold the sides up a lot cheaper and will last a long time. And can get it in many colors 😮😮😮😮😮😮😮

Nice! I’m 90% sure VegeGa makes Vego beds. Looks like there is lots of good deals this weekend. 😊

Glad to hear that helped with the carpenter ants 🐜 😊
I love my Vegega raised beds. I’ve had them for a year this October. Enjoyed your video. 💚
Bought our Vegega a few years ago from your initial review and have been happy with it since, no issues with rust or anything, either!
I’m so happy they are working well for you too!

Great shirt. My absolute favorite place on earth!!!!
Yay!!!! Love that hotel! Only have been twice in my life.

The doggo! 🐩 ❤
She was a good girl. She hates thunder.
Also love, love Birdie Beds!

Love that I am getting some raise beds now. Where do I submit questions for saturdays zoom? I forgot the email and can't find it in membership
There should be a community post today. You can add it there or you can email me at wild.floridian@gmail.com

I'm in Winter Haven also 10a. I have a vego bed and some metal Amazon beds. Both doing great so far. Good luck starting your garden
Glad it was helpful!

These are from www.wildfloridian.net/gardenbed . They are the VegeGa 17” tall rectangular beds

Love your content! What camera are you using to record? The quality is very nice
Thank you! My phone iPhone 14Pro

VegeGa makes beds that are taller… 32” I think. www.wildfloridian.net/gardenbed

I bought aluminum raised garden beds and it gets too hot with the Florida heat. And my veggies didn’t do good
Crecieron muy bien
Girl I have been looking into getting them because my Amazon one is bulging out
Amazon has a bunch of junk. Some good stuff… but also a bunch of metal that will rust on you. Be careful 😅
I like the idea of them but I just wish there was a better way to make them look better. I am working on a cottage garden so the beds just don’t look good to me.
For my cottage garden I used cement 😊
@@WildFloridian me to! I also have some logs from a tree we took down I want to use.
It’s been two years already…?
Right?!?Time flies
I am in California. It can be very hot in the summer and the soil becomes super dry. I would not recommend metal raised bed.
Agreed. I have had issues with soil becoming hydrophobic. But I think it may be the case for raised beds in general.

Whatever you plant food in should be food grade.
Agree John ☺️
