So, having the advantage through the whole tournament and losing makes you the champ? Awesome logic there. With a massive 95-5 advantage in the final he lost. You all have odd notions of what a champ is.
Shahar played extremely smart. And it isn't that Reid's deck shat on him, it is a deck that is prone to having awful hands like that every few games. It happened twice to him in the top four. Game three and four Shahar strictly outplayed him. If you want to call luck then I would counter that game one and two that Reid got extremely lucky draws and Shahar's deck shat on him. Reid is awesome though, that was an awesome match to watch on both sides.
damn this actually make me nostalgia... I remember when cryptic command was so good, and next thing I know, pp are playing four force of negation now...
You mean how he misplayed on that clique by targeting Reid and lucking into back to back burn draws? Terrible choices, pure luck. Better lucky than good.
Throughout the years I’ve held Shahar Shenhar as a hidden gem in the game. Shahar was so good for his age and every game he was in he played so well. He was in my opinion a prodigy in the game.
The life total for Reid was actually at 8 at the end because when he played the ethereal armor he had to pay a life to use horizon canopy, the life totals just hadn't been changed yet on the screen.
That was awesome. From losing on a 2-0 to winning on the 5th game for the world championship finals, it's about as drawn out and epic as you can get =D
@Desert spirit MC I believe he's talking about the creation of planeswalkers, but that's a pretty boomer way to look at it, it didn't ruin anything, just changed the game a lot, which some people don't like
I think things are getting back on track, though. They really seem to be pulling way back on the power creep lately. Look at the spoilers so far for the upcoming sets (Zendikar rising, commander legends). The cards look unique and powerful, but not dramatically game-changing which is what we want, no?
It's a win hard or lose hard deck. It was a really smart metagame pick for Reid. Sharhar did a really good job of side-boarding, and with a little bit of luck was able to outrace him at times. Pretty impressive for a control player.
Reid playing green is always my favourite thing to watch, so despite him losing, I keep coming back to this match. The triple mulligan was especially hard to watch though.
I'm sure that your perusing of youtube has scored you tons of points with the ladies. These guys have been lining their pockets with an activity they love, can you say the same?
As a matter of fact, I do get paid to do what I love. Also, I didn't realize that someone making a comment on youtube somehow disqualifies them from ever being able to get girls... Do you live in a world where if you do something, that's the only thing you are ever allowed to do again? Additionally, if there is one thing that is a girl deterrent, it is the lack of a sense of humor - something you clearly posses in abundance...
It was almost irritating listening to the commentator's openly rooting for Reid Duke. We know he is already a fan favorite, and he has the percentages in this matchup (even though that idea is more for the lesser players who not only don't know what they are talking about, but also believe the deck does more than the player). Talking about the entourage who will swarm the stage, the celebration that will dream, proclaiming Shahar "getting lucky" or "pulling off an upset". They only ever referred to Reid when talking about someone looking to win a World Championship. Even in the games where Shahar lost, he was one burn spell from winning, and he kept getting better in the match as it went on. For anyone claiming Shahar got lucky because of the game 5 mull: LSV told everyone at the beginning of this match that the deck (Reid was playing) is prone to aggressive mulligans because it runs so few lands, and so few creatures. He tossed back a 2-lander on 6 that he could have played, and a 3-lander on 5, but the lands it runs are ALWAYS risky (Canopy getting sacked, Arbor getting killed). Never mind the fact that Reid's first four games were absurdly great draws, and he admittedly played it almost perfectly. But Shahar played spectacularly to push it 2-2. This was the coronation of a relative unknown great player, and M:tG's only 2-time world champion. Not the "due" of a fan favorite. No one is "due" or deserving of anything; earn the damn thing. I was actually glad when Shahar pulled this off.
Everybody probably already does this, but even if you're not side boarding you add your whole side board to your deck, and remove 15 cards. If your are sideboarding, Your opponent won't know how many cards you put in. If your aren't sideboarding, they still think about you playing a deck with 15 different cards in it.
Uberkitty55 Pretty sure someone did he said this: "Reid Duke sounds like penguinz0 One of the announcers sounds like Badger from Breaking Bad" the BADGER is the part i heard so someone got me here.

A person who just learnt how to play Chess isn't going to learn a damn thing about playing Chess by watching Nigel Short vs Garry Kasparov. The same applies to Magic. The Pro Tour is not the place to learn about the game. If you want to watch people who are better than you at playing Magic - which is a great way to learn how to play the game - I'd recommend you find someone who streams Magic Online and plays a lot of Limited i.e. drafting, because then they'll almost exclusively be playing with cards from the most recent expansion pack. I thought about getting into this type of tournie magic but the money it would take every year to stay competitive is just too much for my blood. I mean think about it they probably spend thousands and thousands on cards every year.
Between buying all the cards to forge multiple high competitive decks and paying entry fees and attending Limited format events, I don't suspect they spend more than 3-7k a year in the format they're playing after figuring in card costs, entry fees, and other things needed to be paid for to play. It'd be worse if Legacy was the competitive format. I'd figure that'd tack on another 2-4k on card costs to get everything you need for a format that's so deep.
there aren't many new cards joining the competitive modern decks through new editions, since the cardpool is so large already. There are 3-10 relevant cards per edition and that's it. As long as you don't play standard, the price per year to get the new cards is really low.

Whats the prize money for Pokemon? Im just asking since i dont know... And it might answer your question. Also, this game is way more intense in general. I know since I play both.
Dude theses guys are so silent wtf? And Reid flips his cards and shuffles his hand to much its so annoying. And they move to quickly it doesnt even seem like they enjoy the game
Complete waste of time sorry. MTG is a great game but when taken to this level it becomes annoying. If you have the time and energy for this stuff rock on but if your like me I'll stick to collecting and playing against friends and foes.
you have to give it to Shahar though. 19 years old and already the world champion. As well as winning a final match that even he considered himself the underdog.
1:01:30 I didn't realize what Reid was doing at the time but he brought in his whole sideboard and then took out 15 cards. That's genius and I'm going to try that next time I play.
When Shenhar snapcaster electrolyze Reid’s arbor elf in game 2, Reid forgets to tap it for green which means he can’t play second Kor + Racor, which would have been so much better right? Still one of my favorite matches ever
I think he was really greedy with that play and it was terrible for him. He should have played the Tec Edge, and instead had Snap + Bolt up for the Kor. He would have been able to kill both targets. Sure he wouldn't have drawn a card off the Electrolyze but the play would have been better imo.
Very fun match to watch between 2 different style of decks. Duke played perfect, but his deck is easier to pilot, 13 creatures including the non hexproof spiritdancers and forest creature seems a bit low, I would like to see couple of silhana ledgewalkers, I was also surprised he sideboarded rest in peace with 4 rancors, and that he didn't decked at least 1 leyline after game 1 against ajani, the burn and cryptic. Shahar was more nervous, There were couple of occosions when I didn't understand
In the comments we have complaints about Yu Gi Oh, complaints about control decks, spam, and I guess someone who misclicked a thumbnail and has no idea what Magic is. Grow up people. This was a thrilling match that makes me proud to play Magic.
In game four, Shahar tapped it with cryptic command before combat, then blocked it and blinked the blocker preventing it from doing damage and gaining life, then snapcaster flashbacked the cryptic to tap it again to prevent combat. That was three turns without it being able to do damage. So no life gain.
Seriously guys? Calling someone a virgin isn't an insult, unless you're 10, in which case you have no understanding of virginity in the first place. This video is about people studying and practicing something intently, becoming incredibly good at it. Believe it or not, but this video is showing some impressive skill. If you have to stoop to a level of degradation, at least use a proper insult instead of inadvertently complimenting them.
Once a creature is blocked, it remains blocked, even if the blocker disappears for some reason. If there's nothing to deal damage to, it just doesn't deal damage. There's no "blocking triggers" in the game.
Daybreak Coronet gives Vigilance. He did attack but was blocked by a Vendilion Clique, then Shahar flashed in the Angel and flickered Clique which means the Bogle did no damage so Reid doesn't gain life. From them on Shahar locked him out with Cryptic.
Lightning Helix only does 3 damage, where as the Spiritdancer has 4 toughness. When he was casting the spell her realized his mistake in his calculations/math and took it back since it would've been pointless and put to better use elsewhere.
That is true I was so worried that I would accidently see a comment that would just ruin the whole game. Thankfully I did not and got to enjoy the video.

Whats the prize money for Pokemon? Im just asking since i dont know... And it might answer your question. Also, this game is way more intense in general. I know since I play both.
because magic is the counter strike of card games 8] Some peeps just take it next level
Because I don't feel like watch 8 year old kids argue.
Pokemon is very easy to learn and play. Magic is equally as easy to learn and play but Magic is much more complex. Most child can't play it.
nah, it was streaming live on MTG's website
plays a awesome deck gets owned by blue
thats how i feel every time
+sourcastle Awesome deck? It's like playing solitaire dude
It's commonly called the most boring deck in modern for a reason.
facts
wtf its completely the opposite. This "blue" deck is actully interactive and takes skills unlike to other.
1:05:40 I love the name "Pinkbolt." WotC? Why wasn't that its name?!
Dude theses guys are so silent wtf? And Reid flips his cards and shuffles his hand to much its so annoying. And they move to quickly it doesnt even seem like they enjoy the game
It's just nervous habits and things. These are the finals and winning probably means everything to them.
Ethan Bushard
40000 everything
lol wtf thats wrong
"stop that", best card for tournaments it seems.
Complete waste of time sorry. MTG is a great game but when taken to this level it becomes annoying. If you have the time and energy for this stuff rock on but if your like me I'll stick to collecting and playing against friends and foes.
and your point?
Figure it out brainiac.
I have an opinion and it matters so I'll post something useless.
If I could win $40,000 by taking it to this level, hell I'd do this for a living.
you have to give it to Shahar though. 19 years old and already the world champion. As well as winning a final match that even he considered himself the underdog.
I have no words for this.
Reid Duke seems like a solid dude.
Me sitting here in 2021 wishing this was the world again
It's called "smokescreen". It's a common tactic among pros and also other expert players.
1:17:41 a great little pep talk to people who are stressed out about winning, in all aspects of life, not just in magic
LSV is the best commentator ever
Cryptic Command. The answer to everything.
Thats AWSOME i wish i could have that knowledge id also play this
Shahar Shenhar is my favorite mtg player after this spectacular performance so young but so smart
This is how I'd lose a Worlds finals. Go up 2-0. Lose one to card draw off the top with one swing away, and mulligans down to a third loss. Brutal.
OMG even though I knew who would win before the first game, I just wanted it to not be like this, mad that is so rough =(
In the comments we have complaints about Yu Gi Oh, complaints about control decks, spam, and I guess someone who misclicked a thumbnail and has no idea what Magic is. Grow up people. This was a thrilling match that makes me proud to play Magic.
I like Reid Duke as much as the next guy, but I do think that the commentators were being a bit bias towards him
He did attack. It was blocked by vendilion clique which was then blinked by restoration angel to save it.
Amazing. Definitely a deserving champion.
eyycnz
The intro is like the intro scene from the pickup artist
Ryam i dont know what totem armor is im just getting back to mtg after years
