  • Trains Passing Above The Small Town Of Sadieville, Kentucky & Trains In The Sky At High Bridge, Kentucky. 1905 Building Next To 1911 Railroad Overpass With Perfect View. Cabooses At Both Locations & Trains With DPUs. Norfolk Southern trains on the Rat Hole Line. This line runs between Cincinnati and Chattanooga , Tennessee that Norfolk Southern recently bought from the city of Cincinnati.
The first stop is Sadieville, Kentucky. After a short wait a southbound intermodal train with 3 locomotives went across the over pass in town. The old train station was moved next to the over pass and is the city office location today. We waited for another train but the line wasn't very busy. The second train is a northbound mixed freight with 2 locomotives. I filmed this one two years ago and wanted to include it to show a northbound train and make the video more interesting. Check out the caboose and the train mural also.
Next we go to High Bridge, Kentucky which is southwest of Lexington. The first train here is a northbound gondola train. Then we see a southbound mixed freight with a DPU shoving the rear. Next we see a northbound auto racks train with a DPU shoving the rear also. The MOW excavator that follows was actually filmed earlier when we first arrived. Not many people stick around to the end of the video so I put it last. We see another caboose. This caboose is in Southern paint, however, it was never a Southern Railroad caboose. This caboose was a Chessie System caboose that sat for years in Morehead, Kentucky where I went to school. The caboose was donated to the High Bridge park and painted for display.
Trains use 160.950 at Sadieville, Kentucky and 160.515 at High Bridge, Kentucky. Don't forget to see what the Live Action Pets are up to and check out the slide show that comes from the video.
Filmed Wednesday, July 24, 2024 in 1080p with 60fps. Thanks for watching!

That has to be one of the "coolest" railroad bridges ever!!
Not just for the height, but also for the girder arrangement.
Too bad we can't give a crew some 'incentive' to let you be in the cab and record as they go over!
Sadieville does look like a very interesting spot on the globe.
Thank you for taking us along!

Went to school there in Wilmore the 70’s. High Bridge was quite the trip. In 1975 my bud and I took a huge rock and dropped it off into the river from the trestle. We would walk across to the other side on the trestle. Went back years later to find it all barricaded so we couldn’t get access any more. The park you were in was an old Holiness Methodist Camp Ground then. Rock climbers have fallen and died a few times in the valley. Also a terrible flood went through the valley in 1979 and destroyed a lot of the homes in the valley. Thanks for bringing back a few memories from my careless youth.

That is one, huge trestle! The amount of steel that went into making it, is awesome. That front end loader was really tooling along. I suspect this trestle gets a lot of train traffic and the loader was just making sure it wasn't going to become a hood ornament for a locomotive!

That bridge history was interesting. I lived in a town not far from the old Roebling steel rope factory. The town where he had his factory is called Roebling, New Jersey. In the area of Eastern Pennsylvania, you can find a number of suspension bridges (some walk bridges) that were built using Roebling steel rope. A number of them cross over the Delaware River.

The current bridge at high bridge was built around the original bridge in 1911 so it’s a few years newer. The original deck height of the bridge was about 20 ft lower. When you drive under the bridge you are at the original elevation.

There is something to be said for a tape that virtually compares the smallest bridge to one of the largest Bridges in the state. The Sadieville bridge perhaps was almost like an afterthought in 1911 but apparently is not a huge traffic Road. Even horse and Buggies had to watch the curve underneath the bridge though. Then you have the Thunder of the Highbridge which certainly has the height and a fair amount of length versus the bridge at Kenova which is extremely long but relatively easy on height by comparison. Regardless of size they all carry the weight of those trains everyday

The first time I ever saw one of your High Bridge vids I was stunned when the train popped out from the trees on the left of the screen.
That bridge is really massive! It's like 3 to 4 times taller than covered grain hopper rail cars which are really tall at about 16 feet.
I calculate that the bridge structure (the part on top of the towers) is like 50 to 60 feet.
Well, looked it up and as near as I can tell it's 62 feet.
That bridge started out as a cantilever suspension bridge. But it was torn down and replaced by the current bridge.
I really like that location. Thanks JT!

Thank you for taking us back to Sadieville, Kentucky to watch the two trains going over the 1911 railroad bridge and the historical buildings in Sadieville. The historical marker for Robert H. Brooks, the first American casualty in World War II, is information I never knew. I had heard the name "Brooks Field" in reference to American Air Base in Manila before but now I know who he was. I am glad that you caught some trains at the High Bridge on the Norfolk Southern Rat Hole Line. The kayakers on the Kentucky River looked insignificant on the water from your position before you started to zoom in on them. (Posted on 26 July 2024 at 1314 CDT.)

They should bring them back. If had them on my line they would have stopped train sooner instead of tearing up almost 1mile of tracks years ago. Very last car a gon came off and turned rail over . They only discovered trouble when caught on crossing and car uncoupled caused air hose separating. North Norwich NY. If you check Google maps you can see line . Car came off at river bridge stopped at crossing at pharmacy. Have a great railroad day. 🚂🙋‍♀️

JT and I was wondering about that bridge that thing had to been built in the late 1800s all the early 1900s and it makes you wonder how many people lost their life while building that bridge just think 108 feet off of the ground, that would be a long way to fall. You could say your prayers and everything before you hit but that is one big massive bridge so anyway, my friend you stay safe out there and watch your back and we’ll see you on the next one.

I know that you usually video freight trains but here in Rutherford NJ we have a passenger line (NJ Transit Bergen Line) (there is 1 freight train at about 8:20 nightly). We also have a station that was built in 1893 and is still in service. It was renovated in about 2000.

Next time you go to High Bridge, you need to look for Drake Lane. You drive past it. It's a narrow road that has a closed bridge crossing the RR. Cool spot to catch a train.

@@JawTooth My mechanic lives on that road. He informed me that the RR had built and maintained it over the years. I guess they decided to stop maintaining them several years ago. It's such a small road that the government isn't stepping up to replace it. You can't drive onto it, but you can park and walk on it.

Great bridge..It may be a little distant, and you can't differentiate the graffiti, but it sure makes for a good view of the trains!

Each morning from my RobPatio, I see that the sun rises more towards downtown (es ´el centro´in Spanish) Puebla. From that, I am able to figure out the curvature of the Earth in degrees. The clothes to wear today and the price of eggs in China. But, I can't figure out ´What's the hurry to get out of Sadieville?´
Only if you know, Señor Jaws. Thanks. Another great video. RT sends, envía, Colonia Centro Histórico, Puebla, México.
