When I repainted my SS, I put sealer over the primer, but no base coat on the roof. I clear coated it all, including the roof, and then when I installed the vinyl top, I scuffed the clear with a gray Scotch Brite pad so the glue had a good bond. Clear coating the roof will help stop rust. The scripts on the sail panels never had threaded nuts on the studs. The tubular barrel nuts just push into the holes. The scripts then just get pushed into the nuts and they fit snug in the nuts so they won't fall off the car.
Wow, looks so good without that vinyl. Magnificent!

Good info Dan! Keep it coming.
I am going to repaint my roadrunner and thinking about removing the vinyl top..thanks for the video.
Good luck with your project! Hopefully it'll come off fairly easy with little rust underneath.

Hi mate need to remove my vinyl roof and replace it with hard top but , how do I remove the pins or rivets ?
You may want to consult a body shop for that as there may be some cutting and grinding involved.
Is it possible too remove the vinyl top interlay and match the paint too the hole car? I’ve never been a fan of the to tone vinyl tops
Yes, I have seen that done and I've considered it. However I want to keep to the era when vinyl tops were the thing.
Did you leave it off? (Hopefully?)
I considered it but I'm more than likely going to put one on.
vinyl tops are just wrong
