There is so much I could say about this, but I'll keep it simple. For me, reselling took me from no income (after leaving an abusive relationship) to very low income (work limited by health issues) to decently self-sufficient and growing. I have learned soooo much through this journey and yet I feel I've only touched the tip of the iceberg. One thing I'll say is a lot of "poor people" don't shop for the same things that resellers look for. Therefore, there's more than enough for everyone. I have had people thank me for offering something they cannot find (item has been discontinued ) and they are willing to pay more for it. Most people who make these comments have no idea how much work goes into it and how knowledgeable you need to be for it to be profitable.

So this is kind of a long story. But the reason that I love resellers is because of an incident that happened in my family. My niece came to visit from out of town. She had saved a jacket that she bought with her own money to wait until this trip to wear it. She absolutely loved this jacket. My daughter took all the nieces and nephews to the boardwalk in Santa Cruz California. The next day my niece realized that she had forgotten her jacket in my daughter's car. My daughter having three children of her own and very busy in school and having a big family with a dog and a husband, does not keep a lot of stuff around. When I called her to get my niece's jacket back she told me that she had just cleaned out her car and donated everything to the Goodwill. My niece was devastated but tried so very hard not to show it. It was so sad when she kept trying to laugh with people and you could tell her heart was broken. So for months and months I searched eBay. After 7 months, I found it! I sent it to her town and when she opened the package she fell to her knees and cried! She was so happy to have her jacket back. She swears it is the exact jacket that she lost. Yeah, I absolutely love resellers! Thank you for what you do sometimes you fix a 17-year-olds Broken Heart!

I had a woman ask me if I was reseller one time in my goodwill a few months ago. My arms were filled with about 12 pairs of jeans. Lol When I told her yes, she started down the same line. I just responded that I support Goodwill's primary mission of providing job training more so than the casual customer because I literally shop there 4-5 times a week. I also mentioned that my entire business is sustainable fashion and preventing clothing from going to landfill. I freely admit if I am a reseller if asked. Most people are fascinated about it and ask all sorts of questions. Haters are going to hate. I think it is funny that ya loved their comments. I am sure that video is drawing in all sorts of viewers whiling paying even more.

Hi there! Captain Obvious here! Being the goodwill is a "for profit" organization, they couldn't care less who buys their items which they got for free. Additionally, we are helping get needed products in front of "poor" people bc you can't walk into GW and expect to find the exact item you need in the right size in usable condition. Therefore putting it online used at a discount price saves "poor" people money and time bc now they don't have to buy it brand new from big name stores. Opinions are like butt holes, everyone has one!! You two are great! Keep it up!!

I am so tired of hearing people say resellers are scum. If it weren't for resellers a lot more things would go to the landfill. There are no rules saying Goodwill is only for the poor. Most poor people don't even go to Goodwill

That's crazy I never knew people had such a negative view of resellers. I've been going to thrift stores for over 23 years.
People have a hard time with resellers however, they buy their groceries from a reseller, gas from a reseller, furniture from a reseller, everything comes from someone who is reselling. That’s how commerce works and the economy goes round.

The thing is, that's not how "Goodwill" (non-profits) work. Non-profits use the money made from their sales to help those in need, not selling things cheaper so that low income individuals/families can afford them. I mean it can be both, but most people misunderstand how non-profits work. Unfortunately because they are not involved with the behind the scenes structures, and simply assume that they know how the work.
It's just people that are jealous and are too lazy to work for themselves.
I think you’re on to something..
1. i watched a documentary last week showing what happens to the clothing that is not sold.. it often . goes to ghana.. and they pay per bale...they sort and sell what they can..often barely covering the costs of buying the bale... much of the clothing is sent dirty, damaged etc and then goes to their landfill which is causing an environmental crisis...we help with that. 2. i have twice lost everything i owned and had to start again... i was given clothing vouchers for job interviews which i was so grateful for.. on the otherside of the coin i have moved many times and had good stuff i wanted to donate to charity shops..i was so sad because they were very picky what they took and i had to send a lot of stuff to landfill.. because the people picking up my donations said nobody wanted stuff that wasnt real wood or current models..there is so much stuff in goodwill that poor people wont buy.. but resellers can get it to collectors. 3. i am a pet portrait artist and reseller...i can nolonger work in real retail due to my health. last month i earned $140... which basically paid for my gas to get to po...i kove going to the bins, but it nearly kills me.. jt is extremely hard work.. reselling is better for environment.. means people in many situations can make a living and is really just retail.. we buy at wholesale from thrift stores..i would love to know the good being done by people in real jobs

Right, goodwill is for poor people, but yet there’s a reseller who shops at my favorite Goodwill and he has a Bentley. Those people have no clue what they are talking about.

When you think about it, goodwill gets their stuff for free. It’s literally stuff donated by you cause you don’t want to spend the time trying to sell items you don’t need so you just give them to good will. Plus they are everywhere, they don’t have to make their stores fancy, just sort items then sale.

The only people I see at my thrift store are people with money that don't buy anything. Resellers save so many items from going to the land fill honestly

Well first them people have no clue about anybody that shops thrift stores. I have shopped thrift stores for years and I am not poor. I keep a good budget, but that’s because I have always been conservative with my money. I spend wisely. I found I could recycle thrift store cloths to make costumes for Halloween or school plays my daughter was in or myself at work. I thrifted to remake furniture that was needed for my home, or a classroom when I taught preschool. Many teachers thrift for school decorations, books for students and book bags or coats for their students because they themselves are on budgets. I have extended family members and a few friends that are actually wealthy, but you would never know it because they buy all their cloths from thrift stores or clearance racks, but have never paid full price for anything to my knowledge since being an adult. One family member didn’t even pay full price for their brand new car because they made a deal if they paid in cash up front they would get a discount. He was able to pay cash bc his wife is one of the thrifters I was talking about . She saved her money up from shopping thrift stores and coupons at retail stores until they had enough money to pay cash for a new car. Do I think you are stealing from poor or causing the thrift store prices to go up, NO. You know what one reason that is causing prices EVERYWHERE to go up? PEOPLE THAT STEAL! Those people that go in stores and yes, even Thrift stores and take things put NEVER pay for them at the checkout. THOSE are the people causing prices at any brick and mortar store. And YES people that work at Thrift stores will tell you they have to watch people because people steal from them all the time and that’s the reason why prices have gone up in Thrift stores and any retail store. People think your taking from the poor, but they are probably the ones who steal off the shelves and not blink an eye about it. No, you are a business man, trying to support your family. I’m glad you don’t take these dumb people seriously. In fact I applaud you!👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 Keep doing what your doing, loving your family, working hard to make an honest living. How are they doing this when they shop at the SAME places as these so called poor people who are also buying the items? I will bet these are the same people who work for their money instead of making thier money work for them. How many resellers started out with low wage jobs and started doing resell and found they can make MORE reselling there by adding yep MORE money in to the economiy
I know! So true. I think people who are “afraid” of poor people probably think this way more than anyone else. They fear being seen shopping at these places, so they avoid them and deem them as “poor people” stores.

I'm poor, I'm a single dad, I have a full-time job,. And you smashed everything I'm doing like it was nothing?. I guess I have to take you both on now. I am the legend of conflicts and I never quit. I don't appreciate this I don't give crap. They don't look poor in Goodwill because alot of them are resellers. That's why they don't look poor. I'm struggling here living check the check. Taking care of my daughter myself.
J.k. we're doing fine but. I am a single dad hard worker LOL. Been saving money since 2005. But try not to be so smug about it later.
Not having extra money and some debt are different than “poor” in my opinion.👍

People are going to be judgemental especially when you are successful. The sad thing is reselling does not only constitute sourcing at Goodwill there are so many different ways to source (Craigslist, Offer Up, Retail Arbitrage, etc). We're not the only resellers as a matter of fact Goodwill is technically reselling 😃. I enjoy your videos they are entertaining and motivating keep up the good work. I'm always happy to see small business entrepreneurs be successful because it is a lot of work managing a business but totally worth it. Take care and much success to you ✨

I have been a reseller for about 20 yrs. Should of seen how I was treated when I was a extreme couponer For like 5 years!!😂
