ARABIAN CROWN dominates the Classic Trial & goes second favourite behind City Of Troy for the Derby

- Arabian Crown justified odds-on favouritism and booked his ticket for the 2024 Betfred Derby when making all the running in the bet365 Classic Trial at Sandown.
A smart two-year-old, he was last seen winning the Zetland Stakes by over five lengths and appeared to hold strong credentials given how much Dubawi’s progeny tend to improve at three.
William Buick sent him into an early advantage and it was one he was not to relinquish, as the 5-6 market leader made the last 100 yards his most impressive.
With two furlongs to run, there were several who must have still fancied their chances, with Remaadd, Macduff and Under The Sun all in there pitching.
But Buick knew exactly what he had under the bonnet and having just wound up the pace, he really put the pedal to the metal, stretching three and a quarter lengths clear of Macduff and Remaadd, who ran exactly to the pound from their Haydock running last year.
Appleby ran Adayar in this race, who was beaten by Alenquer in 2021 before winning at Epsom, while Westover prevailed two years ago and went on to win the Irish Derby.
Bookmakers cut the winner to 6-1 from 12s for the Epsom Classic.
Appleby’s assistant Alex Merriam said: “Will gave him a nice ride on the front end and I thought he did it quite impressively in the end, he’s galloped all the way through the line.
“His racecourse gallop helped him and Charlie has been really pleased with him the last two weeks, he’s really started to come to himself and it (the gallop) didn’t do him any harm anyway.
“He has got to be in the Derby mix now and obviously there are a few other irons in the fire, but I suppose he has to be the main one at the minute.
“I was just talking to Will and it’s going to be tight to get another run into him, he’s had a hard-enough race there on soft enough ground.
“We’ll see how he comes out of the race and if he goes anywhere, it will probably be Chester - the Dante is a bit close to Epsom. I think experience-wise, as you can see there, he’s quite professional already.
“We’ve not had a Dubawi win the Derby yet, but fingers crossed we will get there eventually.”

The question is where are they going to run Ancient Wisdom? He was meant to be their Guineas horse.

Racings about opinions. AC looks like a horse that will be better suited to galloping tracks. I feel he will not act around a switch back track like Epsom.

Did William ask anyone for a light ? Cause that old fossil was handing over he's lighter 😂but on a serious note Godolphin should run the colt in the 2000 Guineas. Arabian Crown's best trip as a 3 year Old will be over a mile and their best chance af winning a classic.
I doubt we saw a derby winner today and buick would have no choice but to do a Steve cauthen and make all , portland obviously being schooled in public only asked for effort when being out of the frame was assured.
If this race had been over the Derby trip portland would have been upsides or in front of the winner and I doubt he's ballydoyles best inmate. .
As usual Chester but especially the dante at York will be the best trial. .
A shame hislop didn't interview him after the next race where he rode a better animal that's now been quoted for the oaks..
Gosden booking buick for that filly (out of the mare timepiece ) confirms my suspicions that neither shoemark or havalin are good enough to replace dettori and gosden needs to sign up a real jockey, I'm still waiting for a bookmaker to quote O'brien for the British trainer's championship as without dettori or a group1 replacement jockey gosden has no hope..
He needs osin or the doyler otherwise it's surely O'brien for champion trainer.
Portland schooled in public? How much schooling do you think he needs? He's had already ran six times last year and once this year, he was the fittest horse in the field and just running through tired horses.

@@robertdelacy3434 I think he was one of the few who had a previous run, the majority of that field were having their season debuts and probably feeling it at the end of the race, he could well be better going further but his dam was only campaigned at a mile so maybe this could be his limit?

Im not impressed. While his mother was a winner over 12F, his full sister never panned out. and He's 4X4 to Mr.Prospector and 4x5 to Nureyev.

I agree, it's not nailed on that he will get a mile and a half but there's a fair chance, many view Dubawi as a miler, although he did get 3rd place in the Epsom Derby at his only attempt beyond a mile.
@@nightowl7459 Nah. People will be High on him off of this race but you're not going to turn the Derby into a sprint race at Epsom. Pacemakers will insure that He's not Slip Anchor
Won over 1m2f at 2, suggests stamina is his bag. Looks a relentless galloper and one I'd be vaguely considering the leger for. Doubt he has the class for a derby.
@@sionrouge1697 I agree, the Derby will be a completely different race, I don't think a strong pace would be any problem, I just have slight concerns about that last furlong and him actually handling the course.
Interestingly every race we have seen his final furlong has been his best and same again today. Will get the extra 2 furlongs standing on it's head.
Only real worry is quick ground and we aren't going to see that at Epsom.
