  • Well here we go. Off to the races. First of seed starting for me. I loved growing onions last year from seed. I have started onion starts (looks like a bushel of rubber banded onions in a bouquet) and onion sets (looks like little baby onions). I had success with both. When I start onions from seed like this video, I create my own onion starts. I should have probably started them a few weeks ago. I will keep note of how these work out this season so I have a good start date for next year.
One thing I love about onions....... If you don't pull them, they will come back the following year and they will flower. The flowers are beautiful and the bees love them. They are the first to flower in the garden and helps with early pollination in the garden. Only down fall to that is, you need to process them or eat them fest as the shelf life diminishes when they go to flower. So freezing or eating or dehydrating is vital soon after pulling and curing.

My name is Michelle and me and my 2 Yorkies Molly and Sasha live in the western suburbs of Chicago. I am in zone 5B and I have 4 gardens in my portfolio. 1 Garden is at my Church, Ginger Creek Community Church. 1 Garden is at my residence. I call this Wilson Garden. 1 Garden is our community garden that I founded called Batavia Community Garden. And 1 Garden is in Geneva that I call Geneva and will make her debut in spring of 2022. I have grown a huge passion over the last 3 years to “GROW FOOD AND FEED PEOPLE!” The only way I knew how to do that was to create 4 gardens in my community. In these 4 gardens we can grow food, feed people, educate, enlighten, and make more people aware of the new wave of growing your own food. I feel blessed everyday to do what I love and never work a day in my life. I do my best to shoot a garden tour of all the gardens every month between May - October. In the off garden season, I do all I can to still share educational/informational videos on seed saving, indoor gardening, worm farming, fall clean up, fall garden prep, cooking videos or remodeling videos. Then in March, its back at it with seed starting. If there is anything you would like for me to give you content on, I am always open to suggestions in the comment box below. If you find my videos entertaining or educational at all, or I piqued your interest, please consider subscribing to my channel. Hit the “LIKE” thumbs up and the notification bell. This is my GoFundMe video 2022. I am asking all my friends that understand my obsession with "growing food, & feeding people" to help me make a huge impact in my 4 gardens this 2022 season. There are things we can buy that will make the gardens even that much better. However, me being a "One Man Show" when it comes to financial support of my household, can’t always splurge. So, I thought since this was the first Birthday I can actually celebrate, (no quarantine, facemasks and restaurants are actually finally open) I thought I would do so and invite all of you to the DONATION PARTY. Please Please Please Like and share my video. Please consider subscribing so you can see what your donations will be doing to help so many families. Any and all help is so greatly appreciated.

I don't sift my soil outside so it's hard to use whatever is people are using on UA-cam. It looks like a big frame with hardware cloth. I got to keep my basement somewhat intact. You could see the plastic all over the floor so I don't ruin the carpet. The basket still has big holes in it so there are little branches I keep picking out but I didn't have time to double sift it I could do that as well. I have a basket from my bike that works really well too. Sometimes I dread being a one-man show. Thank you for watching

Thank you Connie. I don't have compost yet. I am making some as we speak in my backyard. I layered it with manure and leaves and table scraps and old petered out vegetables. I keep turning it and watering it and it looks like it's doing okay. Thank you for what you use I will use that in a future and try it out. I'm going to have to start seeds in June or July for the fall so I'll try it then.
