I remember when the 370 bus was green & went to Tilbury. A 96 or 193 took you to Hornchurch and if you wanted to ge to Romford you got on the push-pull train via Elm Park and Emerson Park Halt where you had to r8ng the bell to get off or it went straight through.

I filmed Hornchurch on the same day as this. That'll be coming soon to the channel...

When I was a child the traffic lights at the crossroads in the middle.of Upminster had only two lights - red and green - no amber!

Upminster is safe in the daytime but come nightfall its full of youths from ilford and Romford, its like Islamabad when it gets past 8pm . Even the once renowned school Coopers & Coburn has police officers visiting daily as soooo many out of town students there now carrying weapons. The towns stores have banned coopers students from going in unaccompanied due to the trouble they cause. The students coming in from Romford and Ilford have dragged the schools down now. We are in the process...as are many others...of getting out as quick as possible.

Bloody hell, I went to Upminster infants/Juniors (the Bell) and then Gaynes back in the late 80s/90's...Lived off of Corbets Tey....Didn't realize my beloved home town has gone so far down hill...That fcking hurts my heart because I have the fondest memories growing up there...Haven't been there since around 1997 so...yeah...That hurts....
However heard the same about Brentwood, that it's gone downhill...Heard Romford has gone to sht (and that Debenhams got closed and turned into some Arab shop?)
Don't know how old you are but the Upminster I remember was quiet, peaceful, pleasant and safe...

@@StennMathis yeah Essex as a whole is going that way. Anybody who points out the correlation between certain types and crime is a racist apparently

spot on, exactly what happens when you merge a quiet little Hamlet almost with a sh*thole like London. Same has happend to most of Havering over the years and now gets worse by the day thanks to that scumbag khan.

I don't think it's quite that bad, but we certainly suffer from children bussed in from other areas.

Upminster looks more like a suburban district attached to Hornchurch rather than a town.

@Deesar Thafaks same with Manchester, towns merge in with each other with the city too

You should come and see for yourself. Upminster and Hornchurch are quite distinct and have their own characters, the Ingrebourne valley is a great divider.
Even Cranham, where I live, still has a distinct village feel about it, even though it is now tacked on to Upminster.

Not all neighbourhoods on earth are for "Something to see" when you live there. Neighbourhoods like these are for settling down because you've SEEN it all, starting a family and being a bit more responsible, live a peaceful quiet life
Plenty to see in parts of Hackney or Croydon or Glasgow at night...or Londons, Leicester square if you can afford it. Go live there if you want sht to see
On top of that I personally know a millionaire who lives no where close to where there is anything to see and he's still young and driving a new Bugatti *Shrugs* He's got a wife and kid and has seen probably more than both of us put together as that's what money does...
Coming from an Upminster boy who's SEEN A LOT (dark and light) since leaving my home town

Perhaps you should check your facts.
Upminster has a thatched tithe barn and a working windmill which, as far as London is concerned,
      are something to see.
And 300 years ago, the Rev. William Derham of St. Lawrence Church was the first person to accurately measure the speed of sound.
There's a lot more to see around here, and anyone interested can easily research it.
