I saw this brilliant work on Saturday in New York. It was quite an experience. S McBurney lays it out there, draws one in quite slyly and then there you are immersed in the amazonian jungle, a tumbling vortex of space and time, leaping forth from a bonfire of the mayuruna people's earthly possessions deep in the jungle and out to take hammer to the material monstrousness of a modern city and more, not just any city but Washington DC! Ambitious work! Humble thanks.
It was a stunning live performance. I did find myself slapping my own head, which was amusing, due to the clever way the sound was produced ! It did make me re-think theatre and I felt was a bloody marvellous performance Simon. To other reading here, I could highly recommend it...
A thrilling performance. Beautifully researched. For me the revolutionary aspect was the integration of personal narrative, objective academic reportage and the in-the-moment telling of the story itself - as Simon himself says, it 'is' a story about a story but it's also a gentle confrontation between modern and pre-modern societies and all the trappings that this brings. I say gentle... The denouement of this meeting is violent - as violent as you can imagine, but the piece is not obsessively preoccupied with this politics. It's testament to Simon's deep experience that he can lay down all his tracks so symbiotically. I was really impressed. It was masterful.
McBurney at his best! He uses technology so creatively and imaginatively it engages you at so many levels and immerses you in an intimate and powerfully dramatic experience... What next from this creative soul?
Hi Simon,Im excited to be coming to the Encounter this sat night after our 'brief encounter' in Prague airport in Nov17 when you were charging your phone. You wanted 'intimacy' to come acrossjust as you do when you meet people ,like me, by chance!Sheila from Edinburgh.
Question - It's playing in New York. Should I splurge on Orchestra center or is it totally aural and not so visible where a side seat (or partial view) is okay?
I sat in the very last row of the theatre and was still able to see everything on stage. It was very nice. No matter where you sit you will be able to see! I hope this helps! It's a fantastic show☺️
This show is so beautiful. Thank you Simon.
Sensational, unforgettable production
Stunning and profound!
Amazing performance! Fully immersive and like no other show you've seen before.

Cool. He reminded me of Spaudling Grey. Who sadly jumped off the Staten Island Ferry to kill himself.
