For future readers, you don't need to separate the front plastic shield in order to clean inside. There are about 10 Phillip screws on the back. Remove those then you can split the housing open and you will have plenty of room to clean in there. You can probably find a tutorial from people who install the white gauge face plates. I clean mine by using some mild soapy water, and use a microfiber cloth to gently clean the clear plastic and the flat black bezel. Rinse, then do a final rinse with some distilled water which won't leave any water spots and I let it air dry or use a hair dryer to speed it up.
Thanks for the video! In addition to using LEDs, people also remove those little triangular reflectors at the bottom of the cluster and repaint them in reflective silver. Makes the lighting even brighter. Good Luck with your 944!
I'm going to just add these to my parts list now. That's such a huge difference. I did a set in a 240sx I had years ago and loved them. They make such a huge difference. Good to know on the dash cover in another comment. No overlay for me.
Thank you for the video!, My 91 944 s2 it’s getting all new interior, I already order some LEDs to replace the original “candles”. I’m in sunny Dan Diego as well!!!.
I have the same problem with my dash lights - barely visible. Will this solution apply to with other lights on dash (fan, a/c, temperature switches etc…)? Do I need bulb replacements for those switches too? How to get access?
@@OhYeahAboutThat that's great to hear! I want to do this as well, but I worried about the bulbs being too bright and eye fatigue on long road trips. Nice job sir!
I’m not 100% sure but I think they are very small bulbs that are different than the dash lights. I think it’s the same bulb that lights the headlight switch and ashtray. Sorry I don’t know the number.
I did mine today but they don’t work......doing some research it looks like you have to turn them back in a certain way. That they only connect on one side. Mine is an 85.5 tho and the socket that the build goes into looks different in mine. I’m going to take it back out and turn them 180 and see if that works. 🤞
Sounds like just a simple gear for the odometer. It’s very common for those to fail. I’m not sure if the speedometer is related to the same issue. There are places out there that will fix your current cluster if you mail it to them.
it’s basically a check engine light.... it will flash if it’s on, but if another dash light is on it will be solid... sucks because they were made before obd2 sensors so there is 0 way to read what’s causing the light to be on

Oh I’ll be doing this upgrade. Mine are so dim. Good vid!!
This helped me install new dash lights on my 944, thanks so much
Glad to hear!
Nice work! I'm going be replacing some burnt out dash button lights on the Lude.
I love the videos! I have an early 85 944 I want to upgrade H4 and fogs and dash to LED.

Oh yeah? Nice!
@@OhYeahAboutThat how did you apply the Meguiar’s 105, by hand or with a small orbital?
@@josejoshua73 I have a few orbital buffers I use. I think I used my Griots 3” foam pads.
@@OhYeahAboutThat thank you!, I have the orbital, need to get some foam pads.
@@josejoshua73 I’d love to see pics of yours. I’m on Instagram with the same name.
Nicely done! I love this car!!!
UCanDoIt2 thanks! It’s not popular on my channel. I thought for sure nobody was watching!
@@OhYeahAboutThat I've been following along. Cheers! Mike
Awesome doing mine very soon
Yes u right when I saw mine I thought they were out

@@glow9999 you can definitely replace those. You should also be able to find a climate control LED upgrade video here on UA-cam
Look up Take Flight Garage here on UA-cam . He’s the current owner and I think he may have done that.
Is there a difference with 87+ 944s? Thanks!
I think the 85.5 and up should be the same as the 87.
Are those LEDs dimmable with the dimmer switch?
Scott Faivre yes they are. Just like a regular bulb.

For the AC Hazard (any button lights) do you know if they are all the same bulb as these ones? I’d like to upgrade those as well btw thank you

Did you need to remove the steering wheel or was that for a different reason?
No, not needed. I upgraded to the leather wheel from the explorer.

Yeah, I hear they changed the design over the years. Good luck
Very informative thanks. Does anyone know where I can get a new gauge cluster for an ‘87 944s - Speedometer/odometer stopped working on mine.

There are a number of options for colour for these bulbs, what colour did you use? They look like golden yellow?
I believe they were 3000k. I didn’t want them too blue due to the vintage of the car.
@@OhYeahAboutThat Thank you, I'm going replace mine but trying to choose the right colour. Yours looks good
Awesome!! Looks great, by the way, would you recommend the coverlay for this car? Im planning on purchasing one. Thanks!!
Thank you! I do not recommend the coverlay. It warped the very first time in the sun. It’s garbage. I ended up getting a nice suede cover.
what does "!" mean when if comes on???
Not sure?

Lights are dim so you cannot see the dust inside the IC
Very nice!! Thank you!!
It’s not glued. There are like 6-8 screws in the back
Thanks for letting me know.
The intro sound is loud and annoying
