This analysis is as good as it gets. It's all broken down so logically. You guys put mainstream TV football analysis to shame. 10/10 😊
Appreciate the kind words
I love how you get to show the places where he is lacking compared to other prem players. He is a golden boy no doubt but most threads I have read on Mainoo tend to focus only on the strengths. Finally something to dial down the hype a bit.
He’s 19, is he expected to be the finished article? It goes without saying he would have things to improve on, but most of us don’t crave negativity and have unrealistic expectations when it comes to a 19 yr old at the beginning of his career. He deserves the hype.
If you could get this to Mainoo himself. United fan here. Love your content man.
Anyone got his contact details 😂
@@PythagorasinBoots Social media accounts would do; just like Sseko's video
@@abc-rb7xe did Sesko react to pythag's video??

I was having the same thought in regards to his athleticism and tendency to fade out.He needs to develop his athleticism and learn to move around and be an option more. The boy has almost everything even physique-wise for his age. Some fans wants to see him as an offensive midfielder but I see him more as that traditional CM who will thrive with a mobile and tenacious no 8 partner.
He is very young this will no doubt improve
Makes the game look like slow motion. He does everything with 100% confidence and it's great to watch
He can definitely play the De Jong role alongside a ball winning midfielder. Personally, that's his best role. He's gonna be our tempo setter not the main creator.
Agreed
mainoo is too slow for a box to box@@anigerianninja4577
Excellent analysis.
Summary: bottom level - Kovacic. Max Potential - Paul Scholes (minus the goals)
Mainoo is nowhere near Prime Kovacic , the guy gets out of pressure and dribble his way out against 4-5 players with ease
he means potential-wise, not right now@@DZGC43
@@DZGC43 how are you saying mainoo's potential is nowhere near kovacic's prime? lol arguably mainoo can get there in 2-3 years
@@Mossbergg Mainoo havent shown anything that indicate he is gonna be a better player than Kova
@@DZGC43he just ran through liverpool midfield 😂
god looking at those stats reinforce just how good rodri is at everything. surely he is the best midfielder in the world right now
Undoubtedly
Rodri is Elite
Why not look at the stats of 19 years old Rodri
Spot on. I love mainoo, being a united fan my self, but his explosiveness needs work. He should focus on his athleticism and he would be a staple in united. The media are also not helping things tbf.
Not wrong but easy to forget he’s only 18. Sooo much room to grow. IMO I don’t think he’s overhyped by media he really got thrown into a crap United side and at 18 has showed great composure/potential
As much as i hate hearing about his weaknesses, i absolutely love this analysis 😊 the truth hurts 😂😂😂🙆🏾♂️
Can’t wait
Need one on garnacho too
no we dont need that one 😂👍🏼😭👍🏼👍🏼😂😂😂😂
Real he can keep that😂@@blokkka9inety293
Garnacho is bang average. In other words, miles better than Antony. Mainoo is Utds biggest talent by a lonfg way
Garnacho would rather sprint ten miles than pass it to Hojlund
Garnacho will be playing for a mid table side in la liga within 3 seasons.
Been waiting for this one! I think the main reason why he's not the best yet at progressive passes as others is due to the fact that MU lacks technical players to open up, receive and hold the ball, most of the time they hold possession for 5-10 max minutes then struggle to get the ball out of opposition team, can't even have 60% possession against teams like Fulham, Everton. Of course I'm not saying he's capable to compete with players like Rodri, De Jong yet, he's too young but he got potential to surpass them if he keeps improving, very talented player.
I agree that he can hit more progressive passes than the stats suggest
@@PythagorasinBoots Stats can be misleading and no serious coach or manager takes that onboard.
As an arsenal fan I have to say Mainoo from the small amount of games ive seen him in has a high footballing IQ for this age and will no doubt be a baller as a 8 going forward . He has great ball carrying and passing ability and he can dictate dictate the tempo of the game knows when to slow things down and retain the ball or go forward and creates scoring chances for his teammates. He has great vision and fairly precise distribution. On a defensive contributions level he is timely with interceptions and tackles. His adaptability to different positions is also on a ridiculous level and has bags of agility in tight half spaces as well as amazing composure for this age. I cant see him failing at united he seems to be getting better and better in every game I see him in and doesn't shy away in difficult games and big games . United just need a certified 6 really like Amadou Onana which I hope arsenal can get.
Genuine question:
What is your overall process of evaluating the talents of the players you have reviewed?
I.e how many games do you typically watch to get an accurate gauge of a players skill level and ceiling?
Do you cross reference your own scouting report with others to fill in any gaps you might have missed ect.
I genuinely find your analysis incredible and I’m interested in your holistic thinking process.
Great vid as per, and congrats on 100k
I will prepare a guide book for followers in future but no I don’t refer to other scouting reports as I don’t like having my opinion influenced by others before I had a chance to look at it all myself

Great video. Mainoo is probably the most intelligent 18 year old I've ever seen. His technique, strength, and tackling added to that makes him a great talent. My biggest problem with him currently is his completely lack of defensive awareness. Being a United fan, we've conceded a few goals from him letting players run past him too easily. I never blame him for it as he's 18 and he's just come from playing a more advanced role in the academy, so I put it down to inexperience, but it is a massive negative to his game. I think his long shots will improve with time. Pirlo never had the most power but was unbelievably good from range. His accuracy and technique was just such perfection that he could pass the ball into the corners from anywhere he was on the pitch. Granted, he still had a lot more power than Mainoo does, and Mainoo will never be THAT good from range, but with enough practice, I do think he has the technique to be solid from range without needing too much power.
I agree fully with the point about him potentially struggling to find his best position. If he was to play as a proper DM, I think he'd need to be coming in as a backup to someone more defensively capable, rather than starting already. He's definitely not a 10 either. I think he'd be best in a double pivot as the more advanced of the two, or as an 8. Hopefully he finds a better midfield partner than Casemiro, who doesn't cover for him very well imo, and he can keep improving. I'm excited to see how his future goes.
Agree with all of it - good read 👍
Stop making predictions based on stats for a young player like Mainoo. You have not seen him play as a 10? He was actually a striker in his early academy days. What I like about him so far is his versatility as a modern MF. "A modern MF should be able to play and adapt to any MF position he is trust into" --- Claude Makalele
@@gerardonochie3408 Did you reply to the wrong comment?? Where did I mention stats? I was very positive about Mainoo, nah? I have watched every single professional game he's played, including pre season, where he was also our best player. I know he played as a striker and a 10 in the academy, but he very clearly doesn't suit these positions in the first team, does he? Maybe he could play as a 10, but I'm sure it wouldn't be his best position.
I dislike such comments by Ten Hag about trying to pace the kid to exert himself harder. He shouldn't try to make him a work horse at 18; let him grow to become one of the greats. I hope INEOS will steer Mainoo in the right direction so we can watch his amazing potential and let him develop into a true elite at his own pace (and he is already at an incredible level considering his age). Instead of trying to make him immediately be more, we should just be happy that we already have a player who can already contribute so consistently and at such a level. And as such, I disagree with comments like he should try to cement his identity on the pitch when, to me, it looks like there's still plenty more natural growth to be done. A Danish saying says, When you tighten the string, you strangle the child. Regardless, thank you yet again for a very intelligent and well-delivered analysis. I look forward to more!
Well reasoned, and thoughtful opinions! Enjoyed reading it
Agreed like at 18 he is already doing a great job especially in current circumstances. Literally keeping Eriksen and Amrabat even Mctominay out of the team. Other parts of his game will come with time. Fans are so impatient
6:17 You predicted this right , '5-10 goals a season and score some key goals' which has including the FA Cup

Just seeing all these clips makes me so excited for him. Doing all this at the senior level at 18. Imagine how good he will be in even as short as 2 seasons. And won't cost the club anything.
With all the recent hypes after his England Team debut, it's nice to keep our foot planted and not destroy him with over-expectation, as most united fans do to young rising ballers. He is a joy to watch, passes eye test, but he is just 18, and has lots to improve ❤ hoping for the best for this kid. #ggmu. Great analysis man!
Just come back to this after seeing him perform so brilliantly in all his games. Made me realise, why aren’t there many players who have that La Pausa like him. It’s such a rare but brilliant trait to have
Excellent analysis. It’s exactly what both doubters and the overly enthusiastic need to hear.
This analysis is really good and detailed, i'd like to see one on liverpool's Harvey Elliot also

great analysis. i think he's definitely not exactly rodri level yet but he's such an impactful player at just 18. honestly if he develops well and plays his cards right he could become better than scholes. quit low chance obviously and all it really is, is potential. great player at just 18.
i think he needs to work on his shot power and placement (two things that made scholes incrediblE) and he could be golden.
@@LowwwZ But we already know Kobbie can tackle, so he's already ahead of Scholesy in some respect ;-)

I think it's an age thing in regards to him being dominant as ETH wants from him. He's feeling his way.

Well done, I totally agree.
Thanks
I really like your analysis. Always grounded. Unlike these other youtubers who always think players are either perfect or trash.
I think Mainoo’s main strength is his footballing iq. Everything a footballer does starts from the mind. He rarely gives the ball away because he has awareness, and already knows what to do BEFORE he gets the ball. This strength is also hard to teach. Look at garnacho and rashford. Doesnt seem like they will ever develop respectable iq. But mainoo has it at such a young age.
Many other things can be taught/developed. Brains a but harder. He will be solid/world class in 3-5 years. Hopefully he keeps getting his game time.
Excellent analysis 👏
The one we have all been waiting for!
Congrats on 100k subs!

You should do retro analysis’s of players that are established now for example you could do one of like neymar at santos I think that would be sick
Yh you should young neymar especially would be really interesting
Good shout
great video 👏
his composure and calmness on the ball has impressed me a lot.
So greatful and relieved to see the old style stats graphic back, perfectly implemented with the new graphics this time round. Night and day difference from the first video. Perfectly refined 👌
Mainoo seems to remind me of Caicedo more than anyone else funnily Enough but with much better football IQ.
Could be that moussa Dembele/Wijnaldum type player (- aireal ability?) if he doesn't become a master of one trade with his main skill being his press resistance.
Lets see how he develops physically over the years as this will have the biggest say imo.
Caicedo could only dream to have a part of Mainoo's technical skills on the ball, everytime I watch Caicedo in Chelsea, he's struggle to even have a decent first touch
imagine this guy in 10 years he be 28 in hes prime with 10 years of top tier football experience scary.
the whap whap intro keeps surprising me everytime lol 🇯🇲🇯🇲
This channel's analysis is GOAT level!!
Thanks!
@@PythagorasinBoots Gernacho next please.

Really good analysis as usual!!
Glad you think so!
Really good analysis
Paul Ince is one of the best players ever.
The good thing is that he is just 18years and he also has a lot to learn i believe he is going to be great but he will have to grow gradually . All the way to the top 🎩 my brother 🎉
Great video man! You should do Viktor Gyökeres next.
We will do this on patreon
I love Mainoo, but Seedorf like a few Dutch players, is very unique. Seedorf wasnt a pure 10, neither was he a DM. But he had all the attributes you'd want in a midfielder bar height. Jack of all trades, master of most. Mainoo has a some way to go before he gets even near Seedorf's level. But at the very least bar some mishaps, he looks well on track to be a great player.
Good summary agree with all of it
Mainoo is better on the ball than sedoorf was at his age
Yea I agree with all the praise of your analysis. I've watched a bunch of your videos and never hear you say something that makes me think I'M crazy lol
I feel like Mainoo is one of those players stats don't do justice. he is so smooth in everything he does. and at only 19 he's only gonna get better.
Great analysis. Would you be able to do one on who should start in England's midfield?
Especially on Ross Barkley
Will do mate
Putting him with amrabat made a massive difference to his game against man city in the FA Cup final
Your outro music hahah love it, cannot understand it for the life of me
Lol
Despair for Guardiola, Joy for Mourinho!
Out here bursting bubbles 😵
Cheers mate
Spot on!
Glad you didn't just focus on the stats as the way we play is shocking under ETH and this is a guy that won't suit our current play style. On the eye he has everything in tight positions, very much an eye test player right now.
I noticed his lack of athleticism very early and questioned if him and Casemiro would work, and it's proven that with Casemiro's legs looking like they've gone, the 2 of them can struggle when covering large distances. When you add that to the tactics ETH uses, the two of them struggle even more and this makes the Mainoo stats look very average in certain aspects and when watching him he can get exposed.
We need that joao neves!!!
Would love to see an updated video on Saka
Will do
@@PythagorasinBoots thanks
looks a good player, i get why utd are excited about producing youth players again. hopefully he's sponging the best bits from the older guys around him, and he grows into his body and becomes more dominant. reminds me a bit of milner, and i think the comment about finding his best position makes a lot of sense. the problem is, united really struggle to develop players, so it's going to be tough.
way much better than the last video... at lot more balanced with all the new graphs and illustrations.
He’s 18, and played 15 first team games. It take a season at least to build first team endurance, recovery sprints and maintaining strength for a 90. Look at Garnacho, used to die after 60 mins, now he plays 2 90s a week pressing constantly
Correct. Hence we have to see how his body reacts to more games
As a united fan, Get my boy MAINOO some help. He is gunna be great when we can actually control the possession in our favor.
Definitely
Great analysis!
I think Miley is being overlooked possibly based on the team and his less eye catching style. He's more established than Mainoo at the moment and Id argue better stylistically for Southgate-ball.
I think he deserves a break down and player analysis,
Will add to the list - great shout
Less eye catchy does not mean better. Miley is not as composed. He is better physically though
from what ive seen hes been more consistent and involved in games than Mainoo. Its partly due to his physicality and partly to do with the system.
From what I understand hes more of a 6 but filling in as an 8. He was their best player in pre season too.@@nananou1687

Yes on the list
My opinion has arrived 🙏
"Seedorf regen"
Please make a video on Pau Cubarsi, such a talented player.
Please revisit Declan Rice analysis. Would love a deep dive on his season at Arsenal.
we need a video on wataru Endo. the way he gave the businness to Rodri and KDB, we need an explanation.
I think it’s time for a Cole Palmer update video
Just watched this video after the Liverpool game and I have to say Mainoo definitely looks like more of a Iniesta type of player and I think another thing he might need to work on is his work rate but that's expected when making the transition from youth football to first team football but nevertheless I can't to see him get better by the day.
Well analysed👏👏. In my opinion,he's more similar too mousa dembele. in my opinion i dont think he can develop more on his long passing, and for me he is definitly can be a generation talent player. if im the coach, i will ask him to focus more n be a worl class ball control player. he can play the regista role in a single pivot, pirlo did it so can mainoo he got that natural agility n balance that is a dream for every footballer. In my opinion whats hindering his development is the way united are playing. Hes too raw to be playing week in week out in a team that is inconsistent with so much pressure that will lead to his own short term vision n mission is win at all cost, not developing. It will be a shame if he cant get to his potential.
I would play Kobbie as the Martin Ordigard in Arsenal. I think he could be a great number 10 in a possession based team because of his control and ability to keep the ball
Looking forward to this as mainoo has so many strengths.
Quick simple passes
Can move forward
Good at attack transitions
Also good as a defensive player
Im very interested in your take on mainoo.
One question though would you play mainoo in the bruno role?
As i see bruno as a DLP which suits all his strengths as a double pivot with lets say martinez next to him as a cdm sweeper as bruno is very weak in the defensive attribute.
Or would you play mainoo as a cdm but a roaming playmaker role?
This i cant wait to see.

@@PythagorasinBoots Thanks man keep up the great work, I love your content.
i think the problem mainoo is facing currently is that kobbie space is being occupied by casemiro. mainoo best trait is him getting on the ball and growing into the game but with casemiro being back casemiro himself likes to also sit between the two cb's so it leaves mainoo kinda in a no mans land. and much as i see mainoo as a 8 he's more of a 6 or a deep playmaking 8
His 1st touch, lovely lay off passing and ability to dribble in tight spaces...all remind me of Zidane.
Obviously Mainoo doesnt have Zildane's other skills...but in those 3 areas he is already top class.
My recommendation of tiers of players for the scouts reports:
73-75: Average-Mid
76-78: Above the average
79-81: Good
82-84: Has something special
85-87: UCl class
88-91: World class/Generational
92-93: Intergenerational
94+: Goat
Rice looking after him in the middle for England will be absolutely perfect. This kid could take us up a level
When I watch him he reminds me of Clarence Seerdof and Moises Caicedo. He has a really good base, a natural feel for the game, some Casemiro-like nous and good arrogrance. He's fundamentally sound in all aspects of the game, offensively and defensively. He has a lot to improve upon but he's preternaturally talented like Pedri. That said, if he played for Klopp or De Zerbi he'd be much better and with a higher ceiling.
Where do you get your video footage from?
When you said Didi my head went WOAH WHAT but when you explained it its not far from it.
It’s just a stylistic comparison
PLEASE DO PAPE SARR HES SO UNDERRATED

@pythagorasinboots not sure if you watched the united game today but was there anything you would have added to this video off of that? Thought Mainoo showed real enterprise driving through half spaces, and looking for the over/underlap. He's like a muscular van der beek if he was good. A master key for low blocks if we play this right. Have we seen that before? At the same time he was also at the 6 so good stamina as well. ON a bit of a high after that one!
Not really, the dribbling we saw on flanks is exactly what we have seen in the academy. As we mentioned in video, if he does physically improve by 22 which is entirely feasible, it opens up his positions to include Mezzala to the list. He doesn't need to be Seedorf level athleticism but even Iniesta esque pace/speed would be enough.
