  • I love the Porsche 914 the 'bastard son'. For a long time, they have not received the respect they deserve. However, they have gained a cult following and values have been going up. Get one while they are still available.

"If you can get over the looks.. it's not the best looking car, more of an acquired taste..."
    True that LOL.
I wrestle with it's looks. Some days I like it, other days I don't so much.

@Jack, It’s an acquired taste but I like them. I think with GT fender Flares it looks wonderful. Once you are inside, you forget how the exterior look like.

Spot on, we’ll done video, though I suspect that most owners won’t get near their money back when they sell, especially if they had to pay a mechanic or body person to do the repairs/upgrades. 914s are definitely cars with character.

      @Bob G,
I like the quirky characters of the 914s. They are a little underpowered but still a fun car to drive. If you don’t have to repair rust, you won’t lose too much money owning one. I just want to fix the mechanical issues on mine and just enjoy it. Thanks for watching and for the feedback.

I think you did a really good job on that price. If you just sell fuchs and the trailer alone you’ll probably get back Almost half your purchase price.

Agree wholeheartedly - the essence of a 914 is simplicity. They focus you on driving. With rear mid-engine they handle wonderfully.
My first ‘70 914 was a 1.7L. It was great fun on back roads, but it struggled on short highway entrance ramps. I now own a ‘73 914 that’s had a well executed engine and gearbox swap: ‘85 Carrera 3.2L engine and 915 gearbox. That car really rocks!
I also own a ‘90 911 (964), on which my mechanic and I have worked through extensive modifications. The 964 is set up for both back roads and track; where the 914’s suspension is set up for back roads only. Both cars really rock, but the driving experience is quite different. The 914 weighs ~2,100lbs, where the 964 weighs ~ 3,000lbs. With its modifications, the 964 feels incredibly solid and planted in turns, where the 914 feels like a frisky go kart.
Air cooled Porsches offer truly exceptional driving experiences!

@ David Sherley, you have some fun cars. A 914 with a 3.2 sounds like pure joy. I wish I got into Porsches before they skyrocketed.
Although my 914 is not the fastest, I want to keep it air-cooled. Since your 914 has some power now, which one do you like the most (964 or 914)?

@@JioniDrive Hi Jioni - it would be hard for me to say which I like better at this point. I know the 964 fairly well, I’ve been it’s custodian for 11 years. Although I’ve been aware of the 914 for 4 or 5 years, I had the opportunity to acquire it only 3 months ago; so I don’t know it that well yet.
My initial impressions are that with its suspension mods, the 964 is much more predictable on back roads and track when you really want to push on. Although the 914 is actually slightly bigger than the 964, with a longer wheel base, it’s quicker to turn and jump in response to throttle input. (Nothing makes up for lightness.)
The build of the 964 is my and my mechanic’s design. In addition to suspension, we’ve changed gear ratios to be close ratio, added a hotter set of cams and put in a manual steering rack - the car is really perky and offers great road feedback. The 964 fits me like a glove.
On the other hand, the 914 is someone else’s build. The components of the car that the build has addressed are well integrated. Other parts of the car do need some sorting. But aside from that, I feel as if I’m it’s custodian, and I don’t feel the need to change the character of its build to make it totally ‘mine’.
If it would interest you, images of both cars are on my Instagram: david_sherley_porsche.

@David Sherley, I think the 964 is probably a suitable car for most occasions. When the time comes and I can afford one without selling a kidney, I will get a 964 or a 993.
Thank you very much for sharing. Enjoy the cars and I appreciate your conversation.

@@JioniDrive Jioni - in 2010 when I bought the 964, with some mods and 70K miles, I paid $26.5k. Now that same car would sell for upwards of $60K. It’s absolutely outrageous.
Assuming you live in a climate where rust isn’t an issue, you can modify a 914 like mine at half the price of a similarly modified 964. Much better bang for the buck. Given the current crazy valuations on ‘driver’s cars’, I think it’s only a matter of time before 914 prices escalate as 911s have.
My 964 is a halo car and I enjoy it tremendously. But if we want to get to the essence of Porsche heritage - ‘go fast in a light car with no frills’, then the 914 is probably a better platform.

@David Shapley, I live in California; nice weather almost all year round.
I agree with you on building a 914-6. It is cheaper than actually buying a 911 with some performance mods.
If 914s start to appreciate, then it will make financial sense to build a 914-6. But for now, I will have fun on the slow lane.

Agree with your assessment. They are starting to creep up quickly. Been looking for a project car and seeing prices between $6k-$10 on these with tons of work needed. Thx for the vid.

@ Weets, everyone will tell you “the car does not have rust”.. unless it is recently restored, it’s very rare to find an original 914 without some rust. Keep on searching. With this uncertain economic environment, I think prices will stop raising and there might be some deals soon. Thanks for watching!

Good luck with the house purchase and hopefully you’ll have some money left for a 914. Thanks for watching and have a great year ahead!

Unfortunately, I have to sell mine to pay down the debt of the Alfa Romeo 4C. Very similar cars except the 4C does not have a manual.

Sadly from 2030 on all combustion cars, trucks and busses including
classics will be banned from public streets in entire EU and Scandinavia
:-( In Germany the Green Peoples Party gave order to shorten fuel
supply from 2025 on by reducing petrol stations to only one state
operated central gas station per city or county. They even plan to
reduce the pump speed of public gas stations from 20 litre per
minute to only 2 litre per minute to punish owners of combustion
cars....from 2027 on in the EU certain car spare parts will be banned
too....as exhaust systems, turbo chargers and even some engine and
gearbox oils...California and New York will do the same from 2027 on....
So no investments should be done in oil burning cars any longer....They
even created a completely new kind of crime here in Germany, called
    emissions and smoke crime. :-((((

    • @JioniDrive
      @JioniDrive  2 роки тому +1

That has been my fear. It seems no one in the United States is talking about. I don’t think we will have a complete ban on combustion engines but I can see cities restricting combustion cars from entering it. California can also make it very expensive to own and operate a CE cars. We still have some time to enjoy them before electric cars take over.

It's the beginning of globalization, friends. They're trying to setup the system of the antichrist. The Bible says in Revelation 13 and 14 that at one point no one can buy or sell without the mark of the beast. We see this level of governmental control taking over virtually all of the world. Why else would so many governments do this in tandem when disposing of electric car batteries produces more waste than oil cars? None of this makes sense unless you consider the Bible point of view.
Jesus will be coming back. If you believe in Him (that He died on the cross for your sins and that He was raised back to life on the 3rd day) and turn from your sins to Follow Him, you will see eternal life. I.e., you are saved through obedient faith.
