The legendary Phil Woods on alto saxophone!! I attended a memorial service in a small church in Delaware Water Gap, PA where Phil Woods performed ad lib sax background before and during the service. The acoustics were heavenly, and he sent the attendees into transcendental space with his magical mood. He was performing in honor of his friend who was brutally murdered. Phoebe Snow was a sensational singer on lead and backup. Her name is pronounced FEE-bee.
Billy had a way with the lyrics for the ladies. Smooth talker and even smoother on the piano. Great song choice, and fantastic commentary about the music and song.
A huge hit and legendary album. This is the album that catapulted Billy to national super stardom. Every song except possibly one is great! You will want to react to Zanzibar or an earlier tune called Summer Highland Falls, a real beautiful song!
Great reaction! Since you mentioned Phoebe Snow, you should listen to the wonderful Paul Simon song "Gone At Last", which he did with Phoebe. And FWIW, her name is pronounced Fee-Bee.
"She's Always A Woman" from this same album should be your next for sure. So many radio hits and I think that one is a Top 5 song from him. Interesting lyrics too.
I love his love ballads! My favorite is "And so it goes" but there are a lot of great songs: She's always a woman to me, She's got a way, Honesty... He was (is) a very passionate man and had his heart broken a few times. BTW, I hope you're feeling better!😊
One of my all-time favorite love songs. The honest, down-to-earth, (yet touching), lyrics really get me every time, not to mention the wonderful melody and flowing sax. Being you're a fellow sax lover, may I suggest the wonderful live verson of Billy Joel's "New York State of Mind (Old Grey Whistle Test)". It's a great, jazzy love song to NY, with a terrific sax solo.
Really cool reaction as always. Man this whole album, the stranger, is fire. You could pick any song off of it. I would love to see you react to Only the Good Die Young from this album. It's a real banger. And if you decide to listen to much less react to it, please do not miss bass guitar work on that.
Not trying to be a dick here but he didn't. This song is from 1977 and his first marriage lasted from 1973 until 1982, the year of their divorce. He did not meet Christie until 1983.
A beautiful song from Billy. I love it. ❤️❤️❤️🎶🎶👍
Just perfection
♥♥♥
This was the song for our first dance when my husband and I got married in 2011. It is absolutely timeless and simply beautiful ❤

Leave a tender moment alone and River of dreams are also great songs by Billy Joel.

If you haven't already, Billy Joel's "Scenes from an Italian Restaurant" (The live video version) is one you should definitely check out!
Beautiful songs make me 😭
❤️❤️❤️❤️ absolutely love your breakdowns at the conclusion of the songs you listen too !
A classic song. So beautiful, and so clearly sung you won’t need the lyrics 😊
That's a well-stated comment, jellyroll. :)

One of my favorite Billy Joel songs ❤
P.S. Phoebe (Fee-Bee) Snow has an awesome voice and she had a huge hit in the 70’s called Poetry Man
This is an album you can listen to all the way through. There are no weak tracks on it.

Ironically, shortly after this song was released he left his wife for model Christy Brinkley.
