    Thanks. Been wanting to see whether it really is that simple but so many other videos then seem to some how complicate the issue. Clear and understandable. Thanks.

    A quick update for anyone following. I had terribly slow connections on my router the other day. It was caused by allowing the router to select which signal to use 'automatically' - it had chosen a dreadful 'Free' service instead of 'Orange' (in France). Free was showing 1 bar, Orange normally gives me a full 5 bars of 4G. You can manually choose the network by clicking [Connection settings] from the home page, then [Network Settings] from the left hand menu, and choosing [Network Search - Mode] as [Manual]. It gives you a list of the various networks it can find, and you choose the one you that looks the best. It appears the 'automatic' choice is often not a good one!

    Can you change what channel the device is broadcasting WIFI on? If so can you do a video on the subject. Analysing my unit the software says I am on channel 8 but have a couple of local people on 6 & 7 and it recommends channel 4 for me but I don't know how to change the unit.
    Thanks. George

    I just got B310 router, I tried 4 carriers and 4 different sim cards.... it doesn't work, say no service and second icon is red colored.
    any ideas?
    thanks

      I've not used the B310, but can't think it will be significantly different. Is it unlocked (ie not tied to a network? I bought a second-hand B315 in the UK which claimed to be unlocked, but turned out to be locked to Orange!) Another thing to check is the SIMs have data capability. I don't know about France, but some UK carriers stop their SIMs working in 'data devices' ie mifi devices, and of course this router. Also, if you're using a UK SIM, have you checked is has been roaming enabled, and on the B315 you have to turn on roaming on the router interface too! What country are you in, and what carriers have you tried?

      @@georgeboydratcliff1036 hey, hm, interesting. I'm in USA (New york), I personally have 3 different companies/carries - T-mobile, Verizon, At&t - all have unlimited internet data plan. I don't think this router is locked, because it would say so, right? I thought this routers are using "cell phone tech - to trick companies and provide data via Sim card with no issues" but you are saying these routers are only enabled if sim card have legit 'data devices' enabled feature by the carrier?

    • @georgeboydratcliff1036
      @georgeboydratcliff1036  4 роки тому

      @@ALPHAGENXCORP I'm not sure I understand you? The router will work as a router (ie access point) whether you have a data connection or not. But if you're not getting data (because of your SIM / locked / etc) then it won't provide an internet connection. I'm not sure if it will tell you if it's locked to a provider. But you should be able to see the connection from the interface. (Also, keep an eye on the messages section - so text messages to the SIM as they can often give you a clue)

      George BOYD RATCLIFF i think i just got older model, which supports well FDD rather than TDD (most 4G LTE carriers are using in USA)
      And in regards sim cards, i thought there are sim cards which only can work with routers, modems, tablets, and the same sim card not going to work with cell phone, i think most sim cards will work on all devices if there is internet data and the right bands/frequency, because i think this routers especially trick sim card to think they are in the mobile phone, and not in some type of other device, so should work as regular...

    i could not get an answer anywhere, but how do i know if i have to have the router beside the outside antenna are if i can put it 5 metres from the outside antenna, is there something in the routers specifications, i am asking for a different router an Alcatel HH71V1

    • @georgeboydratcliff1036
      @georgeboydratcliff1036  3 роки тому

      Most antennas come with 5 or 10m of cable. You can also buy cable extensions (make sure you get the right connectors!) Though my experience is every extension loses you signal. So I've put my router within 5m of the antenna, then extended the connection from the router with an ethernet cable to another wifi router

I put it up on the roof and then tried different directions while watching the signal strength (be away the displayed signal strength is *really* delayed - so you have to do it really slowly!) Oooh that's not good. If it's a new one you can get it replaced under warranty. Were you doing a software update?
      I've bought a second one for the UK, and I bought a used one from eBay and have to say I've had a few problems with it. I wonder if some of the 'used' ones are where people have bought one locked to a particular network and tried getting round the restriction (there are some posts about how to do this - but it's tricky, and I guess would leave the firmware in a bad state)
